Games do have that going against them to a wide extent, yes. When you make a game about Doom you're not working with literary genius. But then to go and argue against that they go and take the entire demon and hell taking over aspect out of it entirely like no one that's ever played the game would miss it.
Same thing with Super Mario Brothers. Plotless, but even the most basic of facts they couldn't have missed more than they did. Knee high walking mushrooms became 7 foot ogres with tiny heads.
Resident Evil... The first one was... alright. The second one... with Nemesis? Christ alive what did they do to him?
I think in the right hands an ME movie could be great, but I don't trust the hands of Hollywood to know what to do with it, so I'd say just don't.
Bolded is the sad truth of it all. I can imagine it being great still though. I didnt see doom, kind of wierd they would take that out to be honest.
Silent Hill was good as someone said above. Only one I can think of that didnt make me vomit in my mouth. My opinion there of course, some probably hated it, I liked that they rocked it with a mostly girl cast.

Tron is probably the 'best' of games made into movies.
Tron was a game?
Nope.
Games came out much later.

I thought the Final Fantasy one was going to be good in my childish hope. It was the first lesson of not wasting my money on movies "based" on video games.
yeah good point. I thought Tomb Raider would be good when I was like 10-11. I guess I should say has anyone with a fully developed frontal lobe ever been hyped for a video game.
You know, I didn't think Final Fantasy: Advent Children and Resident Evil: Degeneration were bad, and I'm actually curious as to where they're going with RE: Damnation. But those are direct, animated sequels to the games. Live action films... Don't really come out great.
Prince of Persia was okay, but the only relevance it actually had to Prince of Persia was a guy running around doing stunts in a desert and there were the Sands of Time.
I don't know why directors keep trying for video game movies...
I actually loved Advent Children but I never really think of it as a video game movie. Square enix produced it themselves didn't they? And considering (at least the last few Final Fantasy's I've played) were like 99% fmv I figured it was just them finally giving into their nature.

AC was ok, but I still hated the action scenes and the plot. But how it looked was pretty great.

I like Nolan, but I don't think I'd like to see him direct something like ME. His scripts get a bit... wordy.
Edit: I think it would be awesome seeing Guy Richie direct an ME movie if only to see how insane he could get with the editing.
Nolan probably wouldnt do it, not sure how keen he would be on sci fi. I think wordy for the script is good since ME is all about dialogue personally. Depends on what you want from it I guess though.
Guy Richie would get nuts LOL but hell it would fascinating. I honestly think this would work as a movie and would excited for it. Just need the right team that is GOOD not some average second class POS like Walters or Hudson making any decisions.
Drew K honestly would write a fine screenplay, he is an excellent writer and 1st class.
I love Guy Ritchie but he's one of the last directors I would want to see directing a mass effect movie. The fast paced dialogue and action are what makes his movies great and that's not really what mass effect is about.

If its set before ME3, theres no point as everything goes to hell.
If its set after ME3 theres no point as its set in hell and can't possibly be worth watching.
If it follows the plot of the game theres no point as everything goes to hell.

Much if much means mere months. Both came out in 82.

Not in status on filming or much anything on it. A writer is listed, dude wrote Thor, and I am Legend screenplays. Doesn't seem like a good fit. There was another one that was in status of being filmed centered around Vega called "paragon lost" not sure what that is.

hence, it was exactly like the last 5 final fantasy games.

The game was developed simultaneously with the movie. The original, anyway.

According to the ME Wikia page, there is/was 2 movies. One a live action. The other an anime starring Vega which would show what he did prior to ME3.
The Vega anime I just found out about. Live action one Bioware announced it many months ago. Thread hit over 200 pages and it had a lot of fanboi "can't wait" responses. But this thread makes me think NOBODY was interested even before ME3 release.

I am Legend and Thor were both adapations, and I am Legend was apparently pretty true to the book until the producers made them rewrite the ending after screen tests, and Thor is apparently pretty good I haven't seen it, so I'd assume if nothing else he's good at adapting stories without drastically changing them. Apparently he's writing an adaption of old boy too.

Uh, my bad. Too young to know about that game
Yet since they came out simultanously... can it be called adaptation of the game?
