Did you guys at least read the notes that were attached to the boxes?

You mean all these?

Yep. I have all of the messages (not all were cut out by Fuss, they are the white print-out at back). And those are being kept by the team. {smilie}

That's great!

Agreed. That's cool. :)

OMG I SEE MY NOTE!!!!

"It's not even in any way like the traditional frostings, where you can say how many flavors there are or whether you got flavor A, B, or C."

WINNING.

I can understand why they would turn the cupcakes away. After all, they were told that there would be 16 different flavors and they paid in advance and then it turned out there was only one flavor... wait.

1. It's nice that the kids got the cupcakes.

2. Their response is meant to create a horde of angry gamers furious at kids in unfortunate circumstances getting cupcakes - this would make us look unreasonable. So that's not going to happen. Instead it will be a story about how Bioware passes on the Three Colored Endings, as many here have already observed.

3. It's a bit sad that so many Bioware people who didn't mess up big didn't get to have cupcakes. There are a ton of people working there who didn't have anything to do with this mess, but in support of the tiny minority who caused the problem, and are likely trying to perpetuate the problem, the rest don't get a gift from the fans. Sending them to a charity is likely a move meant to placate those poor buggers as well.

4. I wonder if criticisms and suggestions are also sent on to disadvantaged kids...

So if they had been sent a giant poster saying how awesome it was, and how great the team is, they would have accepted it with open arms, but negative criticism in a light-hearted mood, is turned away.

you know, it's okay to admit what you did was wrong, Bioware.

What's even more ****ed up though, is never admitting it, and pretending that we are wrong.

According to Gameinformer, because the reason fans sent the cupcakes wasn't to celebrate ME3, they donated them to the local Youth Shelter on behalf of their fans.

So they caught on to that, did they?

I think irony would be a rather delicious word at the moment.

Bioware was given three choices...
Blue, Red, or Green and guess what!
They picked a fourth option.

Now Bioware all we ask is for our fourth option...

Oh my.... can we call this the winner?

They didn't HAVE to give that little "this was not productive" criticism jab. they didn't have to say anything. All they had to say was thank you, but we gave them to charity and kids YAAAYYY.

Instead, they decided to be pretty, and slip in that backhand.

Point. Missing it.

It's alsmost as if forcing an ending that punches your fanbase in the gut and makes them feel terrible was a bad thing.

BioWare are treating us all like dirt, that's what is most aggravating. I work in retail and would NEVER be allowed to treat a PAYING customer like this if they had a legitimate complaint. Hell, I wouldn't be allowed to treat them like this even if they had a STUPID complaint!  They keep teasing us, telling us they're listening on the one hand but giving us absolutely no clear answers as to what exactly is going on on the other.  Instead of EVER apologising for lying to us, giving us false hope and advertising, they just repeatedly make excuses and basically find a nice, roundabout, Media friendly way of telling us to shove it.

Also, I wouldn't accept a prize for finishing last. I would, however, accept cupcakes.

They don't say anything because they CAN'T. They'd be breaching confidentiality clauses in their contracts. All they can legally tell us is "We're working on it, be patient", and they've done that a million times.

As for an apology, I don't know. Surely it's not polite to force an apology out of someone? I see Ray Muzyka's message as something as close as an apology as we're going to get. Also, BioWare can argue that as long as 1 person likes the ending, they have not done anything wrong since it's all a matter of taste. It's just unfortunate that you (or I) don't like it.

That's an... unexpected ending...

Now why couldn't they do that but with ME3's ending?

It's not that they didn't accept the cupcakes- I never expected them to keep them.

What surprises me is that they flipped it back on the fans: since we didn't send the cupcakes to say, "We love the ending to Mass Effect 3!" they are not accepting them. They didn't have to say that. All they had to say was "we can't possibly eat all these cupcakes, so we donated them to a charity." instead, they turned into a statement that shows they are taking the criticism personally and are still upset with the fans over us rejecting their ending.

Which really makes me angry, because are we not allowed, as consumers of a product, to protest when we feel a product we consume is inadequate? Bioware is a business, first and foremost, so even though I recognize they are hurt by the rejection, they need to be smart about the situation and see this as a business opportunity instead of coming across as "you hurt our feelings."

Too bad I didn't get a fourth option when I got an ending that didn't celebrate my hard 'work and accomplishment' in ME3. It's a subtle but important aspect in determining my satisfaction with the game.

Chris Priestly wrote...
People are spinning this incorrectly to say we are not listening to "negative feedback" and how bad we are and etcetera.

Wrong.

We
did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes
or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who
sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the
cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to
the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair
went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave
enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all
of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose
them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore
them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We
chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The
message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh
garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the
message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display
case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would
have been the same thing.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not
should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a
message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but
dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it
loud and clear.

It seems as though they kept the notes, but donated the cupcakes, and I'm okay with that. The whole point was to show fan displeasure with the ending in a creative and non-destructive or inflammatory way. Honestly, I think the idea that children getting to eat the cupcakes instead is a better outcome. Hopefully this is a good reminder that many fans protesting the ending are good people.

Fans donating to charity in protest makes them shut-in losers, but donating a protest to charity makes the company great big humanitarians. The more I think about it the more I see it as corporate political spin at its absolute finest.

they're just saying in a very PR sort of way:

"Thanks and this is brilliant, but we know you guys didn't send this because you loved our endings. It would therefore not be right for us to gobble them down heartily. We don't want to just leave the cupcakes to rot and we can't send it back to you guys, so we've given them to the poor children next door."

Why are people so mad?

That was a much better way for them to say that. Glad they brought clarity to the issue. If only they could have chosen their words a little wiser when they first made a statement, and we could have seen this as a fully positive message instead of another "read between the lines of the PR speak" that has been rampant lately.
