People are spinning this incorrectly to say we are not listening to "negative feedback" and how bad we are and etcetera.

Wrong.

We
did listen. At no time did we try to stop Fuss for making the cupcakes
or delivering them (this would be unfair to Fuss and to the fans who
sent the cupcakes and a generally dickish thing to do). When the
cupcakes reached us, we did not refuse to take them (again, unfair to
the people who sent them). I, along with Fernando, Mark and Alistair
went down, met with Shadow Wrought, gave him some swag for being brave
enough to show up and keep us honest and took them upstairs. We took all
of the included messages out of the bags and boxes so we would not lose
them (again, cuz we're listening). We did not throw them away, ignore
them till they got stale or not use them as what they are, food. We
chose not to eat them and gave them to a needy charity.

The
message REACHED us. Whether we ate the cupcakes, threw them in teh
garbage or donated them to charity is secondary to us getting the
message, right? If we had (somehow) frozen time, put them in a display
case for all time as a reminder of the message sent by fans, this would
have been the same thing.

Us actually eating the cupcakes or not
should not have been the issue. The issue was fans creatively sent us a
message expressing their love for Mass Effect as a franchise, but
dislike over the endings. This message was delivered to us and we got it
loud and clear.

That is good enough for me.  I had no issue with them donating them to begin with and thought it was one of the best things they could do..... It sounds like they got the message loud and clear to me..... Now back to waiting for PAX, and another big congrats to all who organized and chipped in to the cupcake effort Image IPB

The OP should be updated with the images/post that illustrate how Bioware kept the messages. That should cut down on the negative spin some are trying to put on this...

I dunno ME3's ending was certainly unexpected......

Yeah, your right. Should have said something other than unexpected. Like... "great" or "awesome"

It's not that they didn't accept the cupcakes- I never expected them to keep them.

What surprises me is that they flipped it back on the fans: since we didn't send the cupcakes to say, "We love the ending to Mass Effect 3!" they are not accepting them. They didn't have to say that. All they had to say was "we can't possibly eat all these cupcakes, so we donated them to a charity." instead, they turned into a statement that shows they are taking the criticism personally and are still upset with the fans over us rejecting their ending.

Which really makes me angry, because are we not allowed, as consumers of a product, to protest when we feel a product we consume is inadequate? Bioware is a business, first and foremost, so even though I recognize they are hurt by the rejection, they need to be smart about the situation and see this as a business opportunity instead of coming across as "you hurt our feelings."

I felt that there was something about their statement that rubbed me the wrong way and you have stated it perfectly.

This is funny.  You seriously don't realize that everything Bioware has done is corporate political spin?  Their whole resposne to the cupcake protest was PR judo at its finest.  It's Bioware being smart - and completely insincere.

This is really the only mistake Bioware made, and it's a small one since most of the people have glossed over it.  If they didn't sneak in that cheap shot it would have been genuinely perfect spin.  But they just couldn't resist getting in some passive-aggressive corporate double-speak.  They apparently can't just own the fact that they did a bad job with the end of the game.

As Harbinger would have said - "Bioware, I know you feel this! Giving away the Cupcakes gains you nothing. Progress can not be haltered. This is not the conclusion."

I'm glad they at least decided to say thanks. Shame that they did not accept the cakes to gain more energy to be more productive...but ah... I'm sure the kids are enjoying them. The message was delivered - we gained more ground.

It is certainly a perfect "trollface-jpg" replacement.

Edit: Regardless, I'm perfectly happy with how this turned out. They got the message, it was funny and light-hearted as opposed to hateful vitriol, and some kids got some tasty treats. Everybody wins. Also, it's pretty funny that they had a meeting to decide whether or not they were going to eat some cupcakes.

That would've been insanely fun easter egg, though. We saved the galaxy, we make a giant party afterwards, everyone gets a cupcake. Epic.

The cupcakes weren't sent to spite them; a reminder yes, but not in spite. That's why cupcakes were sent and not dead rotting red, green, and blue flowers.

So yes, I feel it was a slap to us. Whether it was to spite us or taking it out on us for their mistake of an ending is yet to be determined.

I do hope at least the kids enjoy the cupcakes.
