The gesture certainly gained our attention both with its creativity and deliciousness. However, while we do appreciate that fans were creative in how they expressed their views, after a lot of discussion, we decided ultimately the reason that they were sent was not done in the context of celebrating the work or accomplishment of the Mass Effect 3 team. This is a subtle, but important aspect in determining how to pass the feedback to the team.
No one else noticing this? Nobody else at all?
We noticed.
We are terribly unimpressed.
Not with their decision to give to charity, no. The reason behind their decision to decline the cakes.
Some may consider it a fine distinction. I don't.
Not another penny from me. I don't hang with people like this.

Nah, I kid, I kid. It was nice of Bioware to think of that youth shelter. No doubt they appreciate the cupcakes.

Its Great that they gave them to Charity!
But the Reason for it is sort of, fingers in there ears..."WE CANT HEAR YOU"
I mean seriously? You just got given 400 free cupcakes, and you gave them sway becasue they where not sent to celebrate ME3?
BUT THEY WHERE.
Its pretty clear that everyone thinks ME3 was pretty perfect up untill the ending, the gesture of the cupcakes where to celebrate the game, the way they where preesnted was to pull attention to the ending.
hm the cupcakes were so steeped in sacastic parody that I don't think its possible for them to take it in a positive light.

Hey Bioware, you know what I find funny?
You're being offered three colours to choose from, and using your own critical thinking you've made your own decision and said "We choose option #4".
Giving Shepard that same choice would go a long way to showing you understand where this went wrong.
Someone from the general discussion topic wrote this, and I'm quoting it here for truth.

We should send a cake from the fund overflow to Drew Karpyshyn instead.Humanoid_Typhoon wrote...
Only BioWare fans could incite a meeting on whether or not to eat freaking cupcakes.

VITO CORLEONE (to Sollozzo)
I have a sentimental weakness for my children, and I spoil them as you can see; they talk
when they should listen. But, anyway, Signor Sollozzo, my no is final, and I wish to
congratulate you on your new business, and I know you'll do very well; and good luck to you
-- as best as your interests don't conflict with my interests. Thank you.
[the group begins to leave the room: Sollozzo, Clemenza, Tessio, then Fredo]
VITO CORLEONE
Santino, come're. Whattsa matter with you? I think your brain is going soft from all that
comedy your playing with that young girl. Never tell anybody outside the family what you're
thinking again!
(then)
Go on...
(then, after Sonny exits)
Tom...
(then, after a huge flower arrangement appears at the office entrance)
What -- what is this nonsense?
TOM
It's from ah Johnny, starring in that new ah film.
VITO CORLEONE
Ah -- Well, take it away.
TOM (to person holding flowers)
Take it over there
VITO CORLEONE
And uh, tell Luca Brasi to come in.

edit: Actually, better yet, they would have said "thank you" and donated the cupcakes in private and not feel the need to make an offical announcement about why they couldn't accept the cupcakes. It just seems weird.

This does not instill in me much confidence in Bioware's ability to re-evaluate the quality of their ending.

someone from the general discussion topic doesn't understand math apparently. There is only 2 choices to eat or not to eat broken down then into sub catagories of color or to throw them out, give them away, or send them back. 2 choices, not 4.

I don't have confidence in them anymore anyways. If they feel the fans should bask in the glory of their terrible decisions then I don't know what to say.

They ARE a corporation! Why can't people get that into their heads. Their responses are going to be dissected and taken apart by countless people. They have to be careful as to what they state in public. Let them figure out what they are doing, then let them give us one definitive statement.hardermob5 wrote...
Good and appropriate perspective, I think... at the same time, I don't like the PR doublespeak part of what they put out. If they took a chance to be honest and real, I think they would be pleasantly surprised. We feel like we've been betrayed by a close family member, they are acting like a corporation. Ultimately, corporations are meaningless without people. People are all that matter in this life.
If they put out pictures of them eating the cupcakes, with a note saying, "we're sorry, we're fixing the ending, and thank you for the cupcakes" ... that would have been an unnecessary act of humility worthy of Christ himself and they would have most of us as fans for life. But, as it is, just more PR/CYA/Attorney-advised games from EA/Bioware.
Humility worthy of Christ himself? They gave the cupcakes to a child shelter because they felt they didn't feel, they had the right to get a "reward" for what was actually a protest. How much more humble can they get? Sorry, but to me your exclamations there have a very twisted sense of logic.
Anyway, I think the important thing that the message came across. We'll know for sure once they announce what they are going to do (can't wait for that, good or bad, I want to know). Again, kudos for the cupcake protest!
