Advantages:

- Permanent 70% damage resistance, so your Shep will be able to take a lot of heat before going down. That said, you are not Superman, so pay attention to your surroundings and watch out for turrets.
- The option to bring and use any and all weapons you want. Weight does not matter to this particular build.
- The ability to detonate any opponent in the game with proper squad - at no cooldown cost

Disadvantages:

- All your powers but Throw are effectively unusable and do not improve this build in any way
- Proper squadmates are crucial to this build, and they need to stay alive as much as possible.

Build in action:

Video 1 - Cerberus on Tuchanka

Video 2 - Saving Turian Platoon

Video 3 - Cerberus Lab

Points distribution:

Tech Armor
Go for maximum protection - 40%.

Rank 4 - Durability
Rank 5 - Power Damage
Rank 6 - Durability

Defense Matrix
Go for maximum protection - 30%.

Rank 4 - Durability
Rank 5 - Shield Recharge
Rank 6 - Durability

Throw
Rank 4 - Force
Rank 5 - Recharge Combo
Rank 6 - Double Throw (thanks goes to Seloun - see his post for further details )

Fitness
Max shields and health.

Offensive Mastery
Rank 4 - Force and Damage
Rank 5 - Squad Bonus
Rank 6 - not needed

Lift Grenade
Rank 4 - Radius
Rank 5 - Max Grenades
Rank 6 - Damage and Radius

Squadmates:

1) Bring Liara with you.

Liara can cast Singularity VERY often. She is crucial to this build.

Unshielded enemy: Liara's Singularity + Your Throw = Boom. Cooldown reset.
Shielded enemy: Liara's Warp + Your Throw = Boom. Cooldown reset.

2) Second squadmate spot

a) IMHO Javik is the best choice for second squadmate as his Dark Channel, Lift Grenade and Pull ability greatly complement this build.
- In addition, Javik's passive skill can improve shield recharge rate by 20% for the whole squad.

B) Kaidan is a great choice as well. Overload + Reave have every protection covered.
c) Garrus is solid addition to the team too. Overload and AP Ammo are useful.

Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated!

Perhaps there is hope for Tech Armor after all.
Nice music choice too.  Keep up the good work, Kronner.  Very nice to have someone experimenting with builds and then sharing with video and detailed information. :wizard:

Nice job. What is your CD % at? Looks like you had a Black Widow, Claymore and Vindicator. I'd also suggest Kaidan with Reave as an optimal squadmate. The area version can let you chain Throws quite a lot. I ran him and Liara with this build and everything just went boom hah. I barely even got hit.

PS: Kaidan also has Overload to pretty much fill Garrus's role + give another detonation option.

Interesting. Instead of trying to cover up a disadvantage and being a poorman's X, turn the disadvantage to an advantage for a different playstyle.

I like it.

It is interesting, although speccing for detonate recharge over detonate damage with Throw feels weird. Very viable though. I'm guessing it sucks pretty huge when a throw somehow misses/hits terrain instead of triggering a combo and you have to wait a loooooong time for it to come back up since you stack -% to recharge penalties.

I'll also mention that I messed around with a solider build that had 55% damage reduction any time adrenaline rush was up, and it felt pretty solid but not invincible on Insanity. 70% full time is obviously even better though.

For a class power, tech armor seems slightly underpowered but then singularity is useless.

Singularity with Liara's 100% CD reduction on it is great considering what he's doing.
Anyway, can you please tell me the name of the song that ? The one that goes from about 0:00 to about 2:00. Thanks

I like this idea. I'm assuming that squad mates should be specced/geared for fastest cool downs?

It can't beat Adept (or Vanguard) + Liara + Javik when it comes to biotic explosions, but the combination with run & gun playstyle is definitely something to appreciate.

Looks like my kind of build ^_^

Barrier would work just as well. I took Defense Matrix because it can restore your shields when you purge it. It can come in handy at times.

-200% :D

It's the Throw rank 5 that makes this possible. If Throw does not detonate, you are on insanely long cooldown. You can use the grenades as substitute for Throw in the meantime.

Yeah, Kaidan is pretty good choice. Unfortunately he is dead in this particular playthrough (I have him alive in ALL other saves, lol).

Yes, Liara in particular is very important! Once I get Javik, I will be able to detonate more often :)

Kronner, have you thought about going the opposite route? Getting a super low throw cooldown and using it to reload cancel the slow, low-capacity weapons? Might work well with the claymore, or even better, the raider (since it's lighter).

MInor detail is that biotic detonation damage is dependent on the total ranks of the powers involved, so if you're detonating with throw, you probably do want the rank 6 evolution of some sort - probably dual cast to mitigate missing.

For similar reason you probably want the improved radius on throw at rank 4 - even if enemies dodge, in some cases a large radius throw will still hit, and large radius throw means you can hit a throw on an adjacent target to get the explosion off (which works very nicely with the double throw as well).

adept with barrier is better.

(i just wanted to leave this thought here now and ill try to back it up later.)

shooters on PC look so damn easy. no wonder everyone likes the mattock. its perfect for the mouse. i wonder how many PC player like the mattock and how many console players like the avenger because of eas of aim for PC.

I briefly tried it with Adept, but in the end, I wanted to carry more than one weapon + SMG. It definitely works though!

Well, to be honest, aiming kinda sucks when you are recording full screen (because the framerate drops from flawless 60 FPS to 24-30 FPS). It's even much better with FRAPS off.

This build is fun. I use pretty much the same except the Black Widow. Since I am usually so close to the enemy... I do carry a sniper but thus far I have never used it :P

After looking your build over closely, I have to wonder why you didn't just go Solldier when it comes to the Damage Protection you're looking for. Especially since you're so focused on just using Throw and ignoring Warp (a great DoT) and Overload. Cryoblast gets useful at higher stages, but I can see why you ignore it.

How can you get 70% damage resistance on a Soldier class?

Throw is the only usable power, because it can reset cooldown after successful biotic explosion. Warp, Overload, and Cryo Blast cannot do this. That is the price for taking so many weapons (-200% recharge speed penalty) and damage protection.

Doom Lich wrote...

Yes, both vids are on Insanity.

N7 parts, except for legs (Hahne-Kedar +10% weapon damage, and helemt is +10% shields).

Damn, this looks like fun. The ME2 Assault Sentinel with the two most honorable weapons!

Good seeing someone going to town with a massive weight penalty, the detonate/reset cooldown evo of Throw isn't as useless as I though it would be. Thanks for sharing this Kronner, those vids made my day ;)

P.S. How good is the insane damage reduction when you are hit by rockets, grenades and/or snipers? Do you lose your shield instantly, or die when hit by a grenade?

Thanks!

I got hit by a grenade in one mission and it did not kill me - I still had a bit of shield left. It is pretty similar to MP krogan Soldier in terms of durability. You can eat rocket too, but it still stuns you.

Thanks for answering. That makes this build even better. I'll try an Engineer first though, I prefer defeating the enemy with strategy. But if that doesn't work out the way I want to, this will be the build I'll be using. Nothing beats going Rambo in ME games!

It feels wrong when Sentinel is the class with most EHP and least drawbacks from using full rack of heavy guns.
