Do you think Lockpicking should be a skill, not a talent?

I vote it should have been a skill, but with both high cunning and high dex requirements so that characters other than rogue would really have to sacrifice to get it.

I agree and disagree.

Lockpicking *should* involve a high dex and cunning.

lock*bashing* should involve a high strength and or cunning

being unable to just beat the box to get your goods out kinda sux for the would be adventurer.

I think lockpicking should remain rogue only.

I do however use a mod that allows Bravery for warriors and Staff Focus for Mages to be used as an active ability to open locks. However the downside is it costs you some silver to use, so unless you know the chest is will have good loot, it's not worth using. So it's reasonably balanced.

I was just thinking about something along these lines. In the Mages' origin story, you have to use the Rod of Fire to melt off locks to help Jowan and Lily. A mage could conceivably do that in the game I would think using fire or even ice to freeze locks off with high magic or cunning. And then strength and cunning for a warrior to cut or beat locks off and then of course cunning/dexterity for a rogue. And yeah, lockpicking should be a skill.

I don't get your ppl who that lockpicking has to remain rogue and introduce ways to work around it?

From an RP standpoint your character is closer to special-ops than foot-soldier. It makes no sense at all that they would not be able to open locked doors... Moreover bashing/melting would require some cunning when it comes to steel boxes with build-in locks. On the other hand a warrior or mage (or dwarven noble for that matter) picking the pockets of every NPC in the game is absurd...

I still think that lockpicking as a talent is the most elegant solution...

To be able to open all locks in the game you HAVE to spend at least around 15 points in an attribute you can do without on top of spending about HALF of the skill points you get.

All for stuff you probably don't need anyways? This is a big enough incentive not to use your warden as your primary lockpicker while allowing the warden to open most of the chests in  the origin story.

I find it annoying that even after you master your lock-picking skills, there are still doors and chests that you need to find the key. Makes it kind of pointless for me.
