I did. I appreciated the good amount of fan service in the game as well. The 1st two games, you could just grab a new character and play through due to all the variability. For this one, the variability on a fresh play-through is pretty low-it is all tied to your imported character/decisions.
As much as they touted the game was meant for new and returning players-beyond MP, it was obvsously designed for folks with a vested interest (save games) in the series. And I like that.
I'm actually (slowly) working on another play-through and am just going to alt-tab/close window after a certain point and have a six-pack waiting on ice to dull the pain of what I didn't just witness
(Edit: Not that it is without it's issues-it has many. But overall minus brain drain cliffhanger I did enjoy it.)
Shhhh! The Ending That Must Not Be Spoken.
May Marauder Shields protect you!

yes no doubt about it the game is brilliant! (then it all goes downhill at the ending).
I kinda like to think the game was just like one of those athletes that up and dies suddenly on the court. You know, it seems to be so healthy and alive, chugging right along, then up at the end PLOP! Just died. Just like that.
Goofy heart, aneurism, the whole thing just tanks. Shocking in its suddenness. Sad.

I loved how the missions, even the sidequests, felt like being part of a military operation.
I loved the space battles.
I loved the unique dialogoues in their unique settings.
I loved the great moments of the story.
And then the ending made all seem so pointless.

I too part in an intergalactic war, saw entire worlds burn, fought assassins in the corridors of power, watched two behemoths duke it out in an apocalyptic wasteland, saved an entire species from desolation, reconnected with a lost love, fought through countless battlefields, lost old friends, persuaded long-time enemies to seek the path of peace and shot Udina in the chest.
Yeah it was a hell of ride. Till the damn Starchild showed up. Also would have liked to have fought through an Alliance Shipyard (I just want to see a dreadnought up close) or watch an Elcor tank.

Auto-dialog = bad
Too much auto-pilot/passive watching = bad
No planet exploration AT ALL = bad
Ping-and-Probe missions = better than relentless scanning in ME2 but not a good replacement for actual MISSIONS. Land, explore, fight, etc is the game, not BOOP! Found something. Ta-da!
Jumbled journal = bad
Having to be a horrendous eavesdropper (the kind that gets a punch in the face in RL) to get inane ping-and-probe missions = bad
Having to search high and low in Citadel every other mission for someone with an active chat icon on them so some side mission (never know which) will get completed = bad
Short treatment of most past crew = bad
No Krogan on squad (first time in series that there's not even an OPTION for a Krogan) = bad
Graphics = good
Combat control = pretty good (too much stuff attached to the space bar!)
Being able to re-set player/crew training and re-do point allocation = good
Not being much real point or value to re-doing point allocaton (unlike as in ME1) = bad
Not enough in-depth chatting up crew = bad
Some overheard crew chat = good (I do miss "Ruppert, this tastes like there's a lot less ass in it!" from ME2)
Epic space battle animations = good
Epic space battle animations replacing actual interactions and squad action = bad
Insanity level play actually being fairly insane = good (first time in series)
Multiplayer actually rather fun = good
Multiplayer taking away from PRIMARY goal of SP game development = bad
I am assuming that there will be a good deal of DLC with big side missions in them, including the Hammerhead (lots of hints this way) = good (maybe, if they are well done and in line with "Lair of the Shadowbroker" DLC...BEST DLC in universe...EVAH!). This dependent on fixed ending.

If the ending were good, Mass Effect would be my favorite game series.

I can certainly see why many would enjoy the game, but as a player with Thane Krios as canon romance it was just utterly depressing. I really couldn't have imagined it being dealt with any worse. That, along with the knowledge of what was done to Jacobs romance arc gave the strong impression that female gamers had been sidelined and makes it impossible for me to enjoy any Mass Effect game at present as they just makes me angry.
Ah NOW COME ON! He was dying in ME2!
You reap what you sow, bumping uglies with a dying dude.
(I'm just giving you sh*t)

However. Ignoring the ending for a moment.
Everything about the game was awesome. Gameplay, graphics, VA (great job FP jr.) music, storyline, immersion.
My brother called me when I was playing the Tuchanka mission and I literally told him I had found the best video game ever made.
I thought it was the culmination of not just the series, but of all Bioware's efforts so far. It was their Magnum Opus. Their masterwork. Never to be equaled, never to be repeated.
Yes it had flaws. Journal, major bugs, eavesdropping sidemissions, stuff like that. But I could forgive, and I very easily forgot since the game was just sooooo good.
I loved it.

For me Mass Effect 3 was a make or break with BioWare after DA2 was released ( That was just a realy bad game). ME3 endings were the last straw for me. BioWare wants me to buy more of their games they are going to have to fix the endings to ME3, with a proper conclusion to the story.

At this point, we can only hope in a "real" ending.

Not really a criticism but when I played ME2 for the PS3 almost all the DLC was included. So, perhaps ME3 felt a bit shorter. Otherwise, I enjoyed playing the game and will continue to do so.
I pity you. PITY.
No ME1 for you (PS3). WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?
