The game was excellent, as I have stated prior to any criticism, it was let down only by a vapid and succinct conclusion.

My favorite part was the grissom academy mission where you are reunited with an old squadmate and her rookie entourage. They had some funny things to say, plus I really felt like I was racing against time to save people from the vile cerberus.

I loved the new armours, the re-inclusion of customisation items for your weapons, and the expanded customisation options given to you for your armour.

The weight-to-recharge-speed mechanic was a stroke of genius and really makes a difference, adding strategic choices to loadouts depending on your class.  Very clever.

Loved this game all the way to the end. I was indifferent to the ending, I let my imagination fill in the blanks while Bioware preps its DLC, but overall the game was awesome. Seeing old familiar faces and also losing friends made me cry while playing the game, that to me told me that this was one special game.

ME3 was a great game, but it wasn't a perfect one.

Too much auto dialog, not enough dialog options
N7 missions used same MP template
Journal was disorganised
Eavesdropping fetch quests were annoying
Diana Allers was a joke
Ashley disappears (still talks) as squad member in some missions
Love Interest choices were limited and poorly written
Collecting war assets was a waste of time
London mission was dull and ordinary
Game felt shorter than ME2

If they fix some of the bugs and glitches. Fix the journal. Do anything with that ending, it could be a whole lot better.

I agree.  I've came up with this (probably weak) analogy, but the end of ME3 was like the end of LOST.  For the viewer, both were a long journey of puzzling questions.  At the end, you realized that it wasn't about those puzzling questions, rather it was about the character relationships that you'd forged.  In that respect, ME3 and LOST were perfect; very tearjerking at the end.  If you get held up on an "I need answers to these puzzling questions", you may miss the forest for the trees, as the expression goes.

Yes before the terrible ending everything else was beautiful minus a few minor and major bugs.

Ignoring the ending, yes the rest of the game was quite good.

Not perfect, the start was pretty abrupt (trial would have been a great way to ease our way into things, imo), Hated Ash's casual outfit and thought she had too little dialogue/banter once joining the Normandy. A few other minor gripes. But endings aside, yeah could have been the best in the series.

Hmmm, despite my defence of the ending, I actually agree with the criticisms of the beginning that I see. I didn't really 'feel' ME3 until post-Mars and I was running around the Normandy again. Part of me thinks they should have had much more of an ME2 style opening and kept the visit to Earth to the very end. Was a slightly damp squib of a beginning.

I'm really glad to see so much love for the game as a whole in this thread, even from people who have been vehemently opposed to the ending. I just think it's a shame for so much discussion to focus on the ending when there's so much good stuff to talk about and share as well, and it's important for Bioware to know what people liked as well as what they disliked.

My top moments:

1) Liara's final gift
2) Garrus at the Citadel
3) Emergency Induction Port
4) An encounter with Garrus and another companion near the end...
5) Legion! Mordin! Wrex! (very well handled in ME3)

and above all, and I'm surprised it doesn't get more of a mention, the moment at which the fleet jumps into the sol system to take back Earth. Ridiculously epic space battle. Was kewl. And probably more of the kind of thing a lot of people wanted for the ending itself.

The only thing wrong with ME3 is the ending. Before those final moments it was easily the 2012 game of the year and would have probably been THE game of this console generation.

I reviewed the game on my site if anyone cares to look

I LIKED Ash and her outfit.  I did keep wondering about - Where does she sleep on the Normandy?  She is ALWAYS in that lounge and that is NOT a bedroom.  She gets plastered and is splayed on the floor of that room.  Hell, my Shep wanted to pick her up and lay her in his bed to let her sleep it off in comfort instead of on he cold, hard floor.  Not even those office-style couch/chairs looked comfortable (like airport chair comfortable).

Anyway, I was struck by one of the romance chats with Ash (downtime in the Citadel commons).  It was flowing well and Ash is talking about her father and how he'd love Shepard when, blam, out of left field Shep says, "I can't think about anything but you Ash".  ???  Awkward transition.  That is just an example.  All that was necessary to make it work well was one or two more sets of dialog.  That sort of thing happens here and there in game...just another indication of the cut-down dialog choice tree on offer in ME3.

The game minus the endings was very good, but it felt rushed. I did literally everything and skipped not a single line of dialogue, yet my playthrough was finished at 26 hours. Comparatively, my first full-playthrough of ME2 took 46 hours.

That was a bit disappointing. Mission content also felt lacking.

It is one of my favorite games now, even with the odd ending. The only thing that I really wished I'd have had, is a more realistic panic (more people screaming, running) when reapers attacked. For example at the beginning, on Earth. I know, it was "just" Vancouver, not New York, but still, it felt more like everybody was on vacations...
Maybe the graphics engine didn't allow more.

I also love the player control. It has a natural simplicity to it, it reminded me of an Apple designed UI. Sure was hard getting used to ME1 again, when replaying.

Doesn't matter, as I wrote, overall a very well-designed game. Thank you, Bioware. I don't regret any second of it...well...maybe a few at the end :)

I do (and did) get the feeling that the intent, design intent on this game, was to fill in a lot more with DLC.  Naturally for money DLC.  A number of systems with Reapers in them in the galaxy map that were not able to be visited, the talk about the Hammerhead being up-armored, etc, suggesting it would come back better later...

Couldn't tell you.  Can't actually play the game.  Broken since release.  Oh well, getting my money back, and that's what I'll let Bioware know.

The game was very well done. a lot of the plot holes were answered during the game and action was clean and Shepard felt more epic (especially vanguard). Characters showed a good amount of growth such as Liara, Tali (she became FAR more competent in this one story wise), Garrus and even Vega in his short time in the game. A sense of war and its scale was all very well represented. But it did have flaws. It had a lot of bugs in it. Auto-Dialogue sometimes stream lined conversations(cause we REALLY need a way to someone to go to hell in three different ways) but also felt as control and choices were taken away because from me as well. Also the ME2 squad felt semi-important to the story and most romance options from that game were just poorly done. They made it seem ME2 romances (aside from Thane and Garrus and Tali) were just wild college flings that ended once the experience stopped. Just ask about Jacob. My biggest complaint is I WANT ACTIVE QUEST TRACKING!!!!. But I would give it a 9/10, Better treatment of ME2 squad would of given it a 9.5 and we all know what it takes for them to get a ten from this bunch. Im done now.

'Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.'

Absolutely epic game. Which just makes the last 5 minutes all the more perplexing.

There is an unfortunate aspect to starting the game with THE big invasion.  Dealing with THE big invasion from the very first minutes means it makes no sense, realistically, to explore other planets and go on leisurely missions, etc.  You are trapped into having to hurry here, hurry there, no time to breath, not time to relax, etc.

I enjoyed it, though I thought it was the most uneven of the series for sure. When it was good (Garrus on the Citadel, Mordin/Thane/Legion, Emergency Induction Port) it was the best in the series.

On the other hand, there were things like The End (now in proper noun format!), the obnoxious way side-quests functioned, disinteresting characters with no purpose (Vega, Chobot) and a EMS system that wasn't (IMHO) very well integrated into the game, that detracted from the experience.

I like the game, it's not perfect, you have the feeling that they rushed a bit during the development, it's not 100% polished.

And yeah, the ending, the day1 dlc, disapponted a bit

I prefer, "That Which Must Not be Discussed" to "The End".  See, it never happened.  We simply ignore it and pretend it never happened, that the game is unfinished as we are simply waiting for the ending to come along.

Until then, THIS is my ending:

Well, to avoid spoilers the best I could, I thought that they took the time to explain the Geth/Quarian incident and the Krogan situation. However after the G/Q incident, they took a story that should be 15-20 hours and rushed it into 5 hours and then the end... which contridicted everything throughout the franchise... the end, gave me nightmares for the next few weeks ...
