Mass Effect 3 was one of the best games I've played this generation. It really brought me back tot he amount of fun I had in 2007 with all the great games then.

the ending is the only aspect of this game which is worth roaring as loudly as we are.

Probably one of my favorites of all time, until the last 10 minutes.

Up until the ending, it was probably my favorite in the series. Wouldve needed another playthrough or two to really be sure, but alas those playthroughs havent happened yet and likely wont if the ending remains as is.

On the whole, Mass Effect 3 is my favorite game in the series. Sure, the ending is lackluster as all getout, but the gameplay, environments, and overall story are fantastic. My main complaints are the relative lack of dialogue choice and the issues the game has with lip-syncing and cutscene animation. I also dislike how the fetch-quests are dispensed, and how the Journal never gives you any decent direction to where the items are found or delivered.

Basically, they still managed to make a great game, outside of the endings, but they did not beef up the RPG elements nearly enough. Bring back ME1 levels!

I prefer having fewer customization options and the sense that each one has a discernible impact, than ME1's "each ability has a bazillion points and you won't notice a single upgrade until you've leveled an ability up at least halfway" approach to levelling. I thought the blend of simplicity and customization in ME3's system was just fine, although I would have appreciated greater customization options for my squadmates.

Yep, I adored it, especially the events surrounding Tuchanka and Rannoch. Fantastic story-telling there, though it'd be better if the Third Option for Rannoch was a bit less obscure. I mean, on my first playthrough, I didn't even realise the Third Option was possible until I checked the internet.

I loved that choices from ME2 affect how you're recieved in ME3, like the choice to save Maelon's data. The difference in how Wrex treats you as a result is excellent. And despite not being on the team, many of my favourite characters played excellent roles. There were also wonderful new characters, like 'Eve'. Her lines were probably some of the best written in the game.

I also enjoyed the level of emotion that Shepard is displaying, it makes her feel a lot more like a real character. Though the lack of choice in dialogue was a bit jarring. The conversations with squadmates could have been a bit more spread out too. For example, Ashley gets a fair bit of interaction before Tuchanka, but then afterwards there are perhaps two actual conversations with her (one on the Normandy and fairly throwaway, and the other on the Citadel). The squadmates' level of interaction with each other, Shepard and the missions was marvelous though. Certainly a big step up from ME2, where they never seemed to say anything to each other or have much input. I also find myself caring about characters I was barely interested in in ME2 - Grunt, Thane, Miranda and others.

Gameplay was very enjoyable, much better than 1 and 2.

I'd have loved it if we got to see some krogan riding kakliosaurs and elcor living tanks, but I knew that was wishful thinking.

Also, random, but I love the Shepard VI. Especially the renegade one, she sounds like such a cheerful psychopath.

Yeah, the ten last minutes of the game removed, i loved the game and it is a great game.
It could have been improved on few points tho (textures, animations, a real helmet toggle, mods for armors, different button to skip and validate dialogues, no mono button at all in fact, holstering weapons at will, space combat, etc ...) but i know some of those are due to current console generation hardware limitations (RAM mainly).

I LIKED Ash and her outfit.  I did keep wondering about - Where does she sleep on the Normandy?  She is ALWAYS in that lounge and that is NOT a bedroom.  She gets plastered and is splayed on the floor of that room.  Hell, my Shep wanted to pick her up and lay her in his bed to let her sleep it off in comfort instead of on he cold, hard floor.  Not even those office-style couch/chairs looked comfortable (like airport chair comfortable).

Anyway, I was struck by one of the romance chats with Ash (downtime in the Citadel commons).  It was flowing well and Ash is talking about her father and how he'd love Shepard when, blam, out of left field Shep says, "I can't think about anything but you Ash".  ???  Awkward transition.  That is just an example.  All that was necessary to make it work well was one or two more sets of dialog.  That sort of thing happens here and there in game...just another indication of the cut-down dialog choice tree on offer in ME3.

Heh, I liked Ash too.  But I think the transparant attempt to give her "sex appeal" backfired spectacularly for me.  I would rather she had a standard Alliance uniform like Traynor, Shepard, Kaidan, and other crew members.  Ash would look really good in black and grey, I think.  But that vibrant blue thing was really eye-jarring to me.

Yeah the romance dialogue was kinda weird.  especially given on at least two occassions earlier, I had told Ash that she was "the one" and still cared about her.  Maybe the concussion gave mer memory loss?  Image IPB

Again, that is why they should develop on hardcore hardware (PCs) and then cut and pare as needed to make them work on target consoles.  The issue affects consolers too:  they develop for the WEAKEST console in their target list and that is what we are ALL stuck with.  If we assume that the PS3 is better than the Xbox (all told, just for sake of argument) by reason of cpu, gpu, ram, whatever...one or more...then they will develop on and for the weaker (Xbox) and everyone else (PS3, PC) is stuck with the lowest common denominator.  If they start at the highest level (PC) then they can push the envelope of game development (AI, graphics, whatever) and then pare down to fit to the max capabilities of the console targets.  That way, everyone gets the best game overall that their gaming platform can deliver.  It encourages console makers to improve their hardware more aggressively.  We all win.

THIS. I really liked the companions' interactions with one another, not only was it fascinating to watch and a great way to learn more about the characters, but it made the whole thing feel way more real -- they weren't just ai drones waiting to be clicked on, we were given the illusion that they had lives of their own.

Yes, i enjoyed the game. Despite how stupid it was to make Cerberus go all evil along with the ending that renders everything pointless and the fact that the choices i made in the previous games were also, pointless.

Squad mate interaction is the best, Bioware should focus a lot more on that. It's great but can be even better.

It was forgone that Cerberus was 1) the bad guys (terrorists), and 2) were going down hard in ME3.  I recall supposition/prediction that Cerberus/TIM would be indoctrinated.  THAT fits since TIM was all about trying to make use of Reaper tech when all that does is indoctrinate you.  TIM ain't all that...he's not superman.  That's Shepard.

Other than that I absolutely agree with your points (I was always anti-Cerberus...damn bigots).

There were many things lacking in the game and some things I didn't like, but it might possibly be the best game I have ever played.
Fantastic!

And depending on how it all will play out with future patches and DLC, it might put itself at #1 for sure.

I'm anxious that Bioware will get the wrong message from a lot of heated feelings, one way or the other, about the very end of the game. I've noticed a lot of people making the argument that their disappointment of those final few minutes has tarnished their enjoyment of the series; however, I ask you this question -- ignoring those final few minutes, pretending you had never played them, did you enjoy Mass Effect 3? This is key for the developers to know.

There is no point in answering this, as the end has undone any enjoyment i was getting from this game. Actually to a degree that i don't even can't get myself to play it again. But i am going to try my best answering it anyway.

I've been doing some multiplayer here and there, because i am unwilling to let go of something i had been looking forward to and something i had been bugging my fiance for, refusing any other birthday presents she offered, telling her that i would like this one most of all. In retrospect i am actually sorry for all the stirr i caused.

So i am really, really trying hard to get as much as possible fun from this game, but i simply can't anymore.

And thats no heated feelings, i got mine on release day and i basically locked myself away for that first weekend, barely coming out of my "room" to eat, drink or talk to my significant other.

And no matter how hard i tried now, i just can't get myself to play through another round. If i haddn't made such a stirr beforehand, i probably had already deinstalled the game and never locked back at the series or bioware in general.

On a Gameplay Mechanic level it improved and worsened. I like the Adept powers and powers of the ME2 much more. I loved to fool around with Pushs and pulls, purposefully curving them so i could send enemies flying over ledges and stuff. If they added the ability to bob and weave (roll into cover and such) to ME2, i'd say Me2 is overall the better game. The ability to carry around heavy weapons, like the cain, just was great. I loved the ability to fall back to some big explosion when i didn't feel like dealing with an elite. Or saving it up for some "boss". And if not that i could run around with a flamethrower and all that, really thinker it to my playstyle.

And even if i leave the end aside, ME3 was, storywise closer to ME1, which i liked, but it seemed more insignificant. The interactions between squadmates where in the background and i didn't get to spend nearly enough time with interacting with the people on my ship. Add to the fact that there was a lot of stuff missing which wasn't in the game.

Like that "It will have consequences, this time around, which Loveinterest you pick and what happened to your old one".. I kind of expected Liara to go ballistic on me at some point for not choosing her. It never came. Instead i got a cold shoulder threatment which really seemed like they just couldn't bother to include dialog sequences for that eventuality.

Yes, the experiance wasn't bad, it seemed like the game was coming around again, after the brevity of ME2 compared to ME1, but then the game came to its conclusion. To many things where unanswered..

And while i enjoyed hanging out with Garrus and the Emergency Induction Port was definately my personal highlights in this game... but thats it. As sad as it was...  these two scenes are my only takeaways from this game as memorable moments.

In my opinion the weapons got worse, as it doesn't seem like Heavy Hitting weapons like aheavy pistol has an bonus against armor anymore and SMGs and other fast firing ones don't seem to work better on shields anymore. The enemies in this game are more boring than in previous ones. I rather would have fought against the Collector Forces of ME2 than fighting against these new Reaper forces.

I certainly could have done without Brutes and Banshees which seem to have only one purpose to be a highly deadly "stage" boss, with alot of HP/Armor. I could have done without the quick intermezzo of Alien ™ when i was running through that hive with its coccon eggs and facehugger reapers that jump on you.

Overall, i simply have to say the game was good, it did what it was supposed to be. But from a RPG point of view i rather have ME1.. and from a Tactic Shooter Point of view ME2 was the better game, despite the lack of combat rolls.

Add the End to the mix and you leave me really graping for reasons to replay this game. And the Multiplayer part was nice and fun for a time, but if i am honest, the why they hand out equipment, by forcing you to buy lottery tickets and the fact that there only seem to be 4 (or is it 5?) levels, in which even with moving objectives, you kind of always do the same thing... it really requires effort, for me, to get to play it.

I'll probably return to playing "The Heist" or L4D for my Tactic Co-Op Shooter needs. It just starts to be very boring in the Multiplayer and the other games seem less annoying to me.

If this game would have had an amazing end, with a suizide style ending where all your actions in previous games suddenly matter. With Rachni suddenly swooping in to save the day by playing swarm and protecting the hive, watching how the Geth and Quarian fight side by side, where they would otherwise fall and all that...

You know, something that made me want to play through the game again, making different choices. Something that makes me want to install ME1 and play the whole series in one go, just to see how that one Detail changes the whole outcome... and not just some number on my warscore and a codex entry and the same endsequence no matter what i did.

That would have turned a rather medicore game into an amazing one. Its where i would forget my gripes about how combat really just felt like a grind, or how the relationships between squadmates, former allies and loveinterests seem to have gotten the short end of the stick. All the little details that make me say its a medicore game at best, would have become a footnote.

Now i have to say "playing ME2 is more rewarding". It has the better gameplay and it has an amazing end. Let us just forget ME3 ever happened.

with an ending like ME3s, ME3 will never go down as one of the best games ive ever played. i thought nothing could be better then ME1, but hearing about how ME3 would be like DA: in space, and all the nifty evolutions of powers and modding was back, and a freaking prothean squadmate was accidentally revealed.....

all i cared about was playing the best game(or second best) i could play. theres times when after playing a game, like bioshock, you think "damn, that was an awesome game!!!!" and imediately replay it. i anticipated ME3 was going to be a game i could live in the moment with even before i finished it, id already know i was doing something awesome.

...ME3 did not accomplish that.

While I removed ME3 from my computer, I cannot bring myself to remove ME1 (in particular) or ME2. The nostalgia and hope of those games, the grand vistas and the cool evolution of characters has earned them, for now, protected space on my harddrive. Maybe if the ending of ME3 is fixed I can see my way to reinstalling it but at this point, it would be like putting "Dogs Playing Poker" on the same wall as a Van Gogh.

Despite the ending (which I didn't hate - I just think they don't make sense), I really enjoyed playing through ME3. It really gave me the sense of urgency that you'd expect to feel with the whole galaxy at war.

I hate Ash's outfit, and the overall "make her moar sexy" treatment had exactly the opposite effect on me. Her outfit is just goddamn ugly and makes no sense at all. I remember people arguing that since she is a spectre in ME3 she can wear whatever she likes, and although I'd still say that it's just not Ashley's style I couldn't really say anything 'bout that reasoning. But she is Alliance military at the beginning of the game, and yet she is wearing something not a single other member of the Alliance wears. Just why?

Ash was my favourite character of ME (yes, including ME2), but this game did a better job making it hard for me to keep liking her than I'd thought possible.

The Collector's Edition version of Ashley's outfit looks much better. It's in red and white, her original colour scheme, and it just works much better than the blue.

Somewhat, certainly much more than DA2. Ignoring all the massive plotholes and B-Movie scenes (please, ditch that movie idea, it'll be embarrassing!), it's still a giant space soap opera that lives from character interaction and the cheesy yet heartwarming moments. Some dialogues are cringeworthy, yet I mainly played from "hug scene" to "hug scene" for that "daaaawwww" moment.
Other than that, I often found myself thinking "hey, am I required for anything or does this game just run without me?". The huuuuge marketing hype about oh-so-many hard decisions and consequences was... well, marketing blabla as always, there was no difference to the other games and if you play like an average good-hearted person like I believe I am, everything works out fine anyway.

Na, nothing about the story was amazing, neither was it in any part of the series or any recent Bioware game, it's a cheap B-Movie and I can live with that as long as the presentation is good. Just don't look too hard at it. Speaking of looking too hard... I already found Miranda's outfit in ME2 borderline, but who the eff got the idea to model those armor options for EDI?!? Is that fanservice? Sheesh, she's an effing ROBOT chick, why do they model the most obvious... *cough*... do I dare... cameltoe (there, said it) into her outfit? That's no accident anymore...

Action is mostly forgettable too, although I found it a bit more challenging than in the other parts (maybe just because there are bigger mobs...).
The companion interactions and neat little cutscenes are still worth it and made me play nonstop until I was done. So yeah, I got my money's worth. I didn't even hate the ending that much (aka, the whole Citadel part), it was just leaving too much open and it's a mistake to try the other options and discover they are all the same.

I also spent more than enough time in multiplayer... which is a really simple multiplayer only good as a cheap thrill, yet I got hooked enough to have a N7 rating higher than I'm comfortable with, and for a low, reasonable price I'd even get a DLC containing more maps.

All in all, it's worth buying. Not for the Origin price, but for the 40 Euros I spent I got enough out of it. Speaking of Origin, that's probably the biggest downer of the whole deal. I hate having supported it and I'm still against it - yet I used it anyway even before to get games on a lappy without DVD drive and the EULA has already been changed according to the laws of my country. still, it leaves a very bad aftertaste - had I seen any chance that the game comes to Steam I would've waited, but I don't believe in it ever happening.

laughed so much at this my laptop nearly fell on the floor - to answer original question my life almost stopped whilst playing ME3, that's how much I was enjoying it. The only person I know who was grateful for the ending is my husband because he's now getting some attention again, and he can get on the XBOX!
