Eventually Udina's desperation lead him to a deal with Cerberus to instigate a bloodless coup of the Citadel, arrest the Council and force them to grant him the emergency power necessary to order all Citadel forces to Earth. The salarian Councillor instantly detected on Udina's suspicious actions and acquired evidence of his dealings. The resulting rush to conjure the Citadel and silence the Councillor, as well as the vastly differing goals of Udina and Kai Leng, who was responsible for the leading Cerberus forces during the coup attempt, lead to the coup degrading into a massacre, with Cerberus issuing martial law on the Citadel and murdering both C-Sec officers and civilians.

So basically he panicked because foreign aid for earth was on stand still. He wanted a blood less coup to force the counsel to grant aid for earth. If he had just waited a bit...

Sad part was I actually thought the guy changed. He was more accepting of the council and the various other species on the Citadel in this game. Boy was I glad to get him out of the way.

I think he was always like that. The Codex even says that while he pushed for human interests, he was always fair and listened to the concerns of the other races. His jerkiness is more out of 'doing what he has to do' for humanity rather than intentionally trying to be one.

I can really empathize with some of you so far. The beginning of ME3 shows us Udina as someone with compassion who's really trying to do what he can to help and then he just goes and turns traitor. A bit unsatisfying for me.

Then again, maybe that's the point.

No, it is sudden. He appears reasonable in ME3 and you get the impression that maybe this whole Reaper thing has made him see the big picture.
But then suddenly he's foaming at the mouth, pushing his fellow councilors around and trying to get everyone killed for no reason.

This is actually one of the examples of "speculation bait" that I'm okay with.

Was he indoctrinated? Desperate and scared?  Did his ambition get the better of him?  Was he bribed/tricked by Cerberus?

We'll never know, and I'm okay with that.

The first thing he does in his office is start bashing teh council and howm uch he hatest hem and how much humans are more important. Even if I did not seet he leak, I would have had a feeling he would invovle himself with Cerberus. Him being reasonable, agreeing witht he council and notj ust looknig out for humans would be OOC.

Plus Bioware forced him down my throat, I'm glad to be rid of that jerk.

I think Udina was a missed opportunity. The character was very abrasive and difficult to empathise with in ME1& ME2 however in ME3 I was beginning to feel like I was finally scratching beneath the surface when I got an Investigate option with him. But sadly that was it, he was destined for the renegade interrupt, however satisfying that was. Shame though, they could have done so much more with him :(

His death was very sudden!

I liked talking with him at the beginning of the game, for ONCE in the entire trilogy, he didn't appear like a total jerk. Then suddenly he turns into a traitor, just like that.

I don't mind him being indoctrinated or whatever, but it felt very sudden to me.

It's not very sudden. He's always been pro-human, always been frustrated with the Council, always playing dirty. Ever since the first game.

Absolutely, problem is, he seemed to have changed a bit at the beginning of ME3. You finally communicate with him, he appears reasonable. And then he goes insane without a word of explanation. Felt sudden to me.

I've wanted him out of the picture since the first game. Finally had the option to shut him up.

I shot him the first time, let Kaidan do it the second time to see if he went all pus about it.
I enjoyed it both times. He was an impotent whiner.

I'm fine with it. It gave me the opportunity to shoot two traitors.

Eh I don't know. First thing he says aftert he meeting is putting down teh council and syaing how useless they are. Then it just get's more warry when he makes teh vS a Spectre. That should have sent a warrning bell right away, more so how he talsk about them.

I was actually rather unimpressed. I wanted to know his motivation, and while I would have shot him regardless...to see him just sort of fall over and die was dull and unsatisfying.

I feel the same. I hated him in ME1 and ME2, but in 3 I felt like I was seeing another side to him and actually enjoyed his character. And then he ruined it all and I had to shoot him. :pinched:

They could have given you conversations with him on vidcom, where he asked your progress, then voiced his increasing frustration throughout the game because things were getting worse on earth. Then you could say, I knew he was frustrated, but I never expected this.

Still the best renegade interrupt in either game, I didn't hesitate at all

Yeah but Shepard follows with a "They're blind." And still Shepard can go along and work with the Council. Udina shows that he's willing to work with other races, despite his grudges. I just wished we could have had a little more explanation in-game as to why he flipped out.

I was disappointed in him, but not surprised. When his corruption was first suggested to Shep by Valern, I considered it might be a setup. Turned out the ass was still an ass.

For me, Shooting Udina was one of the best, most enjoyable, most awesome, most emotionally rewarding parts of the entire game.

I carried that bullet ever since ME1.

I thought it was well done. I didn't see it coming, but when it happened I wasn't surprised. I kind of always hated Udina, so I'm glad Kaidan killed him.

Shot him myself though.
Kaidan has enough mental scarring. Plus, it felt good. I wanted it for 5 years. Too bad there wasn't more blood...

haha yea, I really should have killed him myself.  I actually started playing a new Me1 shepard right after beating 3.  i'm choosing all paragon options, except I always choose the renegade option when talking to udina

I wasn't particularly bothered by it.

What did bother me was how Cerberus went from an organization consisting of approximately 150 members divided into three cells that had spent a significant amount of their available resources on Project Lazarus and the Normandy Project suddenly had an entire fleet and a private army at their disposal.
