No, I was definitely not alright with shooting Uldina.

I would have much rather kicked him off the ledge sparta style.

I wasn't particularly bothered by it.

What did bother me was how Cerberus went from an organization consisting of approximately 150 members divided into three cells that had spent a significant amount of their available resources on Project Lazarus and the Normandy Project suddenly had an entire fleet and a private army at their disposal.

But they explain how they got that private army in game, brainwashed refugees = fodder for the private army.

I was disappointed, to be honest. I left the council spot to Udena. He was a salty, squirmy little ******; but that's just it. It's an ugly job and he was the ugliest little bastard I knew. When earth was hit, Udena seemed to open up. Talked about all the named he knew, politicians and their families. Seemed almost human. Vulnerable.

Just because you're a total jackass, doesn't mean you can't also be a good person. I have to believe that.

The refugees on Horizon were being turned into husks from what I saw, but even granting that, where does the fleet and the insane amount of high end military hardware come from?

Or, if your survivor is Ashley:

Udina: Mwahaha Shepard! I have successfully cast doubt on your intentions!

Casanova Shepard: You think so? (Puts rose between his teeth) Ash, do you remember...Ilos?

Ash: Oh, Commander Shepard....

Udina:Curse! Foiled by the Paramor Achievment!

Side Note: I prefer letting Ash/Kaidan shoot Udina. I'm like 'you made them a Spectre and told them to protect the Council? Congratulations, they're being a Spectre and protecting the Council!'

I thought it was well done. I didn't see it coming, but when it happened I wasn't surprised. I kind of always hated Udina, so I'm glad Kaidan killed him.

Shot him myself though.
Kaidan has enough mental scarring. Plus, it felt good. I wanted it for 5 years. Too bad there wasn't more blood...

haha yea, I really should have killed him myself.  I actually started playing a new Me1 shepard right after beating 3.  i'm choosing all paragon options, except I always choose the renegade option when talking to udina

I would have let Ashley do it. For depriving her of the shot on Wrex. But she was already dead.

I hated him, worst example of a politician ever (Ha. Or best). Wish he could have died like Kai Leng. Or that Merc in ME2 in the tower. He needed a better death. Even a slow motion bullet would have had the desired effect.

I think it was a missed opportunity, Udina was showing that he was indeed human, talking about having to remember birthdays and all the people he knew that were killed. I think it would have been a lot more interesting if one of the other councilors were the traitors, just to throw a wrench in the works. They accuse him, he accuses them, who do you trust?

Were you okay with the revelation that he was working with Cerberus and his death?

Personally I was a bit disappointed that there was no way to bring him in alive just so he could explain himself.

I play pretty Paragon, and I shot him and never regretted it. He had a gun pointed at the council and refused to put it down after I ordered him to put it down. I will never think that was a bad call

They could have foreshadowed it a little better, but I was satisfied with all that went down.

Don't get the massive hate for Udina myself, he is the logical choice for the position. Anderson seems like the other councilors would push him around too easily. Don't forget he whines about the job in me2.

Yes, renegade interrupt'd him every time. No matter what.

As a Spectre, it's Shepard's duty is to protect the council and Udina betrayed the council and committed treason. When he raised the pistol, ROE gave Shepard the right to use deadly force.

I never knew VS took the shot if you didn't. I was never that weak.

I didn't see Udina's betrayal coming, but I found that I wasn't really all that surprised.  Considering the log entries you uncover, he must have been planning it for some time.

That's pretty much what bothered me about the whole scenario.

Didn't like it, thought it was put in just as a sort of lazy "well people don't like this guy let's just kill him" sort of thing. I would have much preferred that either his whole deal with Cerberus spiralled out of control, they kept 'altering the deal', etc. until he was just in over his head. To be honest, it seemed to be a really oversimplified element of the story, though obviously that was a theme of ME3 (remember when Cerberus was kind of a shades of gray organization?).

I would have liked to see him explaining himself instead of a codex entry, but then this is also a game where characters were killed via Twitter feeds so I guess it makes sense.

Udina was always a douche...he wanted more power each day.It was easy for Cerberus to convince him..cerberus would support him with troops and he would stay in the power of the citadel while working with cerberus.

I would have liked to know more about his motivation. Was he indoctrinated, or just a jerk?

I'd like an answer to that too.

Udina had contacted Cerberus to coordinate what was intended to be a bloodless takeover of the Citadel, in which he would force the other councilors to grant him emergency powers so that he could command the Citadel Fleet. He would then direct the fleet to liberate his homeworld, Earth.

Its all in the codex

...remind me again why Udina was evil? I never liked him, but that plan works better than the crappy Crucible+Starchild jon.

Pretty much anything is.

However, that plan is stupid. The Citadel Fleet wouldn't have a chance of breaking the siege on earth by itself. Udina's smart enough to know that, come on.

I wish I knew why he turned on the Council, I shot him as soon as he pointed a gun at the Asari Councilor.

he seemed to me to be less of a jerk in the beginning of ME3, though i guess that was since there was little for shepard and him to disagree on

I personally always found Undina rather annoying as a person anyway, so kinda suspected he'd eventually do something very silly, but when he was discovered to have betrayed the council, I was surprised. Probably more because there was no real hint at it, and yeah, the inability to bring him in alive was irritating. Seemed weird that Kaiden seemed to -really- want to shoot someone, too. First you, then Udina. If Udina had surrendered, I half-expected Kaiden to just shoot himself as a release of tension.

got a good laugh from that last line. Oh Kaiden, you trigger happy bastard

As with most important plotpoints, it's explained in the codex. He was planning to use Cerberus to get help from earth, then he was going to betray them, and when he found out about the coup, it was too late to stop it.

Of course this was never explained in the actual game, couldn't have evil Udina looking sympathetic.

Poor guy seems pretty guilty about it afterwards. Kaidan's sort of the 'Hamlet' of Mass Effect, a deeply introspective character. 'Thus conscience doth make cowards of us all.'

my guess is they had some military forces to protect their various cells. Nothing massively huge but a fairly good amount of troops to protect themselves. during the 6 months leading up to 3 they consolidated their forces and recruited. add to the members they got form Horizon and that is problebly how they got their strength to where it is.

My Shepard was a paragon but when that renegade icon went you know i hit that.

Udina was looking out for humanity's interest first, since the council basically refused to help.
