No. It was another case of idiotic fan pandering.

It was out of left field, I wish they'd given us more subtle hints rather than just random "Oh yeah he's with cerberus now" without ever having linked him to it (or their overtly pro-human ideology)

Didn't feel bad about shooting him though, he pointed a gun at the other councilor and I DIDNT MAKE ANDERSON COUNCILOR IN ME1 JUST FOR IT TO BE RETCONNED BY ME3.

What?  I thought it made total sense and I felt bad for him.

The Citadel Council was stonewalling his efforts to get reinforcements for Earth.  Earth couldn't wait 5 weeks, they needed the Citadel's help yesterday.

Overthrow the Council, seize control, liberate Earth.

Was it shortsighted?  Yes.  He obviously didn't understand the Reaper's power but clearly no one in the galaxy did; I'm looking at you, stupid Asari.

Given Bioware's track record when it comes to depicting politicians in their games, no, I was not surprised by how Udina turned out.
I don't know what Bioware's issue is with politicians; everyone one of them is a conniving wanker whose sole purpose in life is to frustrate and hinder your chracter at every turn and with no regard for the expenses of doing so.
Anderson, the veteran officer who has probably never had lunch with a diplomat is depicted as a much better political animal than Udina, the guy who has had experience with political office for years. Hardly surprising that the poor sod would get plugged in the chest eventually!

While I didn't like the guy, I respected him as a politician and nominated him wholeheartedly to the council. I was surprised that he turned but didn’t think it wasn’t entirely out of character for him to ask Cerberus for help (Earth was burning after all). I would have liked a bit more backstory and would have preferred to stun him rather than kill him but I was ok with how it played out.

No, The last game in the series should have been about EVERYONE coming together to defeat the reapers. I'm not saying they should have all gotten along, but anyone with half a brain should have realized that the only way to survive was to stand united. That goes for Udina, Cerberus, the Salarian Dalatross, everyone.

I made Anderson the councilor in ME1 for a reason, because I knew Udina was an asswipe.

That's why I wasn't OK with what happened to Udina.  Another choice you made got taken away.

I shot him in the back.

...I'm okay with that.  I'd been wanting to do that for a long time.

I saved the alien council, usually play paragon and wasted him like the punk he was.

However, I am curious, if you let the council die and let Udina become councilor... do we just get new faceless aliens as the other three council members?

I did not know or thought that he would work under Cerberus at all. If I were to make sense out of it, maybe Udina was tired of political gridlock of the Council that he wanted to take some charge. Being a rather ruthless politician he is, plus with end of the world coming, he took a more drastic route. Force a change. And maybe the Illusive Man was plenty persuasive enough for him to do stage a coup.

Well that's what I thought, and he really wasn't liked by the majority anyway. So I'm okay with him the way he went. As a plot device.

I'm totally okay with shooting Udina, yes, but thanks for asking.

That jerk had been asking for a bullet to the brain for three games in a row.

My only regret is that I didn't get a snappy one-liner off before putting him down.

Udina may have been a backstabbing weasel on more than one occasion but he had his moments.

I blew him away, but I thought I would just shoot his arm or leg to keep him from shooting. Didn't expect him to be one-shotted.

Anything you point a gun at has a chance of being a kill shot.  Don't point a gun at something if you don't aim to kill it.  I think that's some rule in the military or something...

That's a rule for anyone who owns or uses a gun ever.

Udina broke that rule, and that's why he loses existence privilges forever.

I never understood why shooting him was a renegade action. He pulled the gun, so I put him down.

I took down Udina because he was going to shoot a councilor. When the Salarian came to me I figured Udina was up to something to help Earth but a coup? With Cerebus? Considering I figured they were indoctrinated at that point I assumed he was turned too so shooting him while regrettable was necessary. I was starting to respect him more too.

I would have liked to know more about his motivation. Was he indoctrinated, or just a jerk?

I'd like an answer to that too.

Udina had contacted Cerberus to coordinate what was intended to be a bloodless takeover of the Citadel, in which he would force the other councilors to grant him emergency powers so that he could command the Citadel Fleet. He would then direct the fleet to liberate his homeworld, Earth.

Its all in the codex

Hm, theres no need for any explanation, he wanted to help earth, and he did what he thought was best, which in turn ended with me putting one bullet in him and loving it.

No, I wasn't happy.

I am in a very small minority that liked Udina.

WHOA WHOA. Before you pull out the pitchforks, let me explain myself.

A) He has ambitions and goals outside of being Shepard's cheerleader. YAY!
B) He makes sure to cover your ass when Saren says, "She/He's not even fit to be a Spectre!" Udina PUSHES for you to get into the Spectres.
C) Being able to play political chess isn't a bad thing.

Is he a douchebag? Yeah. But to me, he's a likeable douchebag. A lesser of so many evils. A politician. I don't hate him just because he doesn't bow before my feet and ask if he can please kiss my arse.

And then ME3 went and made me feel like an arse for even trusting him, without any explanation (except in the Codex herp derp). I remember not having to read the Codex to enjoy the universe and understand plenty in Dragon Age...

i thought it was a nice little side plot twist.
i saw it coming though to be honest, you could tell.

but i would of liked to know what motivated him to do such a thing considering the state of the universe at the time.

but nah i blew that S.O.B away and kinda sick but i really enjoyed it haha

I thought it was well done. I didn't see it coming, but when it happened I wasn't surprised. I kind of always hated Udina, so I'm glad Kaidan killed him.

Shot him myself though.
Kaidan has enough mental scarring. Plus, it felt good. I wanted it for 5 years. Too bad there wasn't more blood...

If you don't press the renegade trigger does Kaidan shoot Udina instead?
