Since I've seen many threads here about people thinking (as myself) that archery is not a so good option for a primary use I created a mod expressedly done to overcome many of the faults (for how I see it) of vanilla archery.

Changes for ranged weapons:
- Shortbows: full damage from dexterity, high ROF, medium AP, high Critical Chance, low base damage, low attribute modifier.
- Longbows: half damage from dexterity/strength, medium ROF, low AP, low Critical Chance, medium base damage, high attribute modifier.
- Crossbows: full damage from dexterity, low ROF, high AP, medium Critical Chance, high base damage, medium attribute modifier.
- Some unique ranged weapons now can have runes added

Changes for archery talents (plus Precise Striking of Warrior):
- Changed aim time on activated talents to respec the bow equipped and the sustained abilities activated. A Shortbow will fire activated talents much faster than a Crossbow, and Aim will fire them slower than Rapid Shot. Rapid Aim on a bow also reduces time to activate talents.
- Master Archer: increased bonuses using Aim varied on attributes (strength - or cunning with Lethality - for damage, dexterity for critical chance, cunning for armor penetration), increased damage of Critical Shot, increased damage of Arrow of Slaying, increased AP of Shattershot, increased immobilization time of Pinning Shot, increased defense and attack penalty of Crippling Shot, increased stun time using Scattershot.
- Aim: major reduction in aim time, increased base damage bonus, increased base AP bonus, increased base Critical Chance Bonus.
- Defensive Fire: greatly reduced aim speed to be effective now.
- Arrow of Slaying: reduced cooldown to 30 seconds, increased damage to boss creatures.
- Critical Shot: increased damage and armor penetration bonuses, increased base critical damage.
- Shattershot: reduced cooldown to 10 seconds, changed the knockdown effect to affect ANY creatures not passing a physical resistance check based on strength. This means that also boss creatures will be knockdown if they don't pass it.
- Scattershot: reduced cooldown to 30 seconds.
- Pinning Shot: changed resistance check from Cunning to Dexterity.
- Precise Striking: now works FULLY with archery, with vanilla only some bonuses/penalties did apply (for example +attack was applied but not +critical chance).

For those interested these are the links:

Hope somebody will enjoy.

(Thanks goes naturally to Georg that helped me with the talent's activation time reduction).

You should call this mod "Machine Gun Nest"

Really? Using it doesn't seem overpowered. It requires an archer with a full archery line to become powerful. Surely, anyway, it's nothing near to an Arcane Warrior anyway.

Yeah.. was just playing around. But machine gun nest does sound awesome. But seriously, most of the stuff you fixed i think they are applying with the next big patch. But good work.

I, for one, hope so. Don't mind at all if the mod gets deprecated, on the contrary, I will be happy by it. I did the mod primarly for myself since I always play archers in RPGs.

I hope some of the ideas (as the one of less time activating archery talents) are adopted in the next patch.

Ive been using this recently, pretty nice mod. Only gripe I have is that using aim barely has any speed penalty now, especially with a rapid aim bow. Also Arrow of Slying might be doing to much damage to boss and elite type enemies, im not really sure since I got the skill about the same time i started using this. Other than that though, good stuff.

I use both Better_Archery_FULL and Better Melee. Better Archery actually made it fun to play a primary archer for a change, before that the only range class was a Mage, archery just didn't cut it.

I heartily endorse Better Archery. If you use the Personal Annoyance Remover mod, make sure you get the Compatibility Patch - PAR and Better Archery mod as well when using Better Archery.

PS: can't find it on Nexus...that's where I originally DL'd it.

The answer to both your questions is because the creator blocked it from views for the time being. Reason being there was a little conflict between him and another modder who was working on a similar mod. One called the other a plagiarizer and whatnot and stuff got escalated till a moderator got involved.

For the time being, Combat Tweaks is still up on Nexus, and it's very similar to the entire Better Archery/Melee/Combat files.  In fact, I think Combat Tweaks makes it a bit more OP than Better Archery.

@Zab:

My recollection is that Better Archery and Better Melee were around first and have gone through a development process over the last number weeks (ie I've DL'd/updated them several times since this latest version I'm using.) Either way, the user comments on Nexus on Combat Tweaks nudged me to continue using BA/BM mods.

No, you're completely right.  I've been on Nexus since the section for Dragon Age was created and Better Archery was indeed created first.  But this is something that happened recently over the past few weeks.  I can't really comment on anything else outside that and what I've posted before since I don't know them both and I don't want to assume anything else.

This mod, and the 2-H fix, were the two things that had me interested in coming back to DA after a month off.

Well, assuming I can get the accursed DLC to work again.  (built new system; reinstall has been nightmarish)

Hmm, I have the latest better archery and wanted to download the better melee but both have disappeared from DA Nexus. Anyone knows why? Or where else to get them?

The author was banned from danexus for, as i recall from merely skimming the comments, participating in an argument and blatantly disregarding the site moderators via comments. I -thought- i read that the mods would be appearing on damods, but that does not appear to be the case. If i had to guess as to a reason why they are no longer anywhere, i fear it would have to be that the author seems to have continued the argument here at bioware.com, according to the "recent comments" listed in the profile.

Speaking of which, i never did grab a copy of the last version of Better Melee, Combat, or whatever it eventually became, before it went down in flames. Does anyone have a copy to share?

I did not know how bad things got. This answers the questions, but sadly it does not yet provide a working alternate source.

For those curious, here are the two topics where this little farce happened. Can't say I feel sorry for the Better Combat creator though, because he was arrogant as hell.

Edit: First topic seems to have expired. Pity, because it's where the Better Combat creator showed the most angst.

Combat Tweaks probably does whatever you want with archery, and improves everything else.  The only annoying thing is that it requires DAModder to install and there are some separate Bow/Shield tweaks that are a little tricky to install.

It figures; Selea never could accept polite suggestions when he/she was modding for Neverwinter Nights 2, so seeing this doesn't surprise me too much.

I've personally gone out of my way to avoid the mod (even whilst it existed) purely based on the stupidity of the spat. How exactly can someone accuse someone else of plagiarism, when it's concerning data altered in a toolkit? If it were obviously "stolen" and uncredited texture/voice/model work, then fair enough. It wasn't. Chances are nothing seedy even happened, and even if it did, I'd imagine it's nigh on impossible to prove.

Anyway, to anyone wanting archery changes, look to combat tweaks. I believe it does a little more in terms of straight archery, and also changes other stuff. On the plus side, it's actually rather well balanced (you have the option of difficulty enhancing mods also) from what I've experienced. You also have the benefit of knowing it's being updated constantly.
