RDR was great.

I might be in the minority here, but Fallout 3, before the patch. It sucked because it killed DLC but I felt the original ending fit the story.

I'm a sucker for happy endings but FFX's ending is one of my all time favorites. It's an example of an extremely well executed bittersweet ending.

Well said, FFX had a brilliant yet sad ending

Yes, it was a great ending, and very, VERY bittersweet. (As opposed to ME3's ending, which was just a giant goddamned Charlie Foxtrot.) And like ME3, FFX's ending caused massive fan backlash, which made Square Enix not just release a DLC, but an ENTIRE NEW GAME to fix it, basically.

Queue the "WAAAAh IF BIOWARE CHANGES THE ENDING YOU WILL FOREVER RUIN GAMING!" horde... :?
Funny, gaming survived just fine after FFX.

People bring up Fallout 3 a lot, but I remember the majority of the annoyance at the ending being over the fact that you COULDN'T continue playing. I don't recall a lot of people complaining about the actual ending itself. (and Broken Steel actually retconned it pretty badly, to be honest...)

Again, gaming survived FO3's ending-changer just fine.

But EAware =/= Square Enix or Bethesda. The latter two care about their fanbase.

The original ending definately fit better, and it was leading up to it all game...

BUT, when I was standing at the RAD filled purifier with my Mutant friend Fawkes, I assumed he could just do it for me, no biggie right?  But no.  He told me that he would be "Interfering with my destiny" if he helped.

Kinda seemed dumb.  I'd have liked it better if he just said, "Oops, sorry I can't read or type.  You're gonna have to do it."  LOL

Again, the sacrifice ending fit better, but the sacrifice felt stupid on my first playthrough due to Fawkes.

inFAMOUS 2 hero ending

ARGH! How I failed to mention this.

InFamous 2 was my game of the year last year. That game is just awesome and YES the ending is bittersweet and AWESOME. The game ended in such a great way.

If you guys have PS3 and haven't played InFamous yet, go get it!

Dragon Age: Awakening- You save the world from the Darkspawn (again), but at the cost of Vigil's Keep or Amaranthine, and hundreds of lives either way. Well, not really that bittersweet, but the end of Awakening definitely felt more like a bleak victory than in DA:O where you could achieve the absolute best endings possible.

You are the first person I have ever read who liked Awakening's ending better than Origin's.

The problem with FO3's ending was that it was nonsensical. Fawkes is standing right there, for godsake.

MGS4 had one of the best endings of all time... well of video games.

Damn right! It's still my favorite game of all time thanks to ME 3's awful ending.

Yeah, a fine way to end the series and tie up all the lose ends.
:D

As I said in few posts earlier, InFamous 2 comes very close to MGS series. I loved that one. Great story with a lot of twists.

Oh, for ****'s sake. I hate the ending as much as anyone else here, but don't you think you're overreacting? You might not like their PR act right now, but Bioware cares about their fanbase. Even though the ME3 ending sucked, there's plenty of proof of it all over the game. There was a lot of, shall we call it, "fan generated" content and I actually enjoyed the playthough even more just because of it.

Sure, they made a mistake. They said they're working on fixing it, or whatever. Cut them some slack, or at least wait untl PAX before you start with those statements.

I've written a _LOT_ about how much I loved my horrifically painful Dragon Age: Origin ending...
I am a huge fan of HongKong cinema because things can end in heartbreakingly confusing, gut-wrenching ways. (Hero, Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, The Killer, A Better Tomorrow, etc. etc. etc.) I expected ME3s ending to be very much like that and looked forward to the tears.

...no so much impressed with the WTF??

(....and that's the very first comment I've posted anywhere about the endings...even though I finished the game weeks ago...but I guess it's time for me to join the 'vocal minority' **sighs**))

Edit: I can spell....

Going to second Fallout 1 and Planescape: Torment. DA:O is a good example of preserving choice into the ending.

The ending to Six Feet Under.

www.youtube.com/watch

So sad, and so beautiful. Such a sense of finality; beloved characters coming to a worthy conclusion.

It’s been years – and I still remember that show with such love, and part of that was that the ending was dignified, the show itself was allowed to come to a stop, and gorgeously so.

The song played in the video ended up being one of my favourites. Every time I think about the ending to Six Feet Under - or watch it - I both cry and want to see the whole series again. That's a perfect ending in my book. When it makes you love everything that came before it even more.

Not less.

L.A Noire :'-( "Goodbye." Cole you mother-****ing tragic hero.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Mass Effect 2 (depending on your choices.) Seeing Shepard die there was heartbreaking.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine... well kinda.

Those were games... for movies:

Toy Story 3
Braveheart (sad in a way...)
Last of the Mohicans
All dogs go to Heaven xD
King Kong
Jurassic Park... even if they all got out alive, it just makes me sad for some reason... I WANT DINOSAURS! :crying:

One possible bittersweet ending in my opinion would have been the death of the whole crew, perhaps even together with Anderson. But then there had to be a great scene at the end, like the races of the galaxy unite to built a new citadel and in the middle of it a big monument honoring the saviors of the galaxy. A big ceremony with people of the different races together mourning the fallen, including some of our former friends like Wrex, Jack, Samara or whoever survived.

Biowares made a ton of them...
Baldurs gate
Neverwinter Nights(SoU)
Neverwinter Nights 2 and especially MOTB( "Good" ending)
DA:O
ME2( with the wrong choices)
even DA2 was bittersweet(ish)

And those are just their own games. Not all of them were extremely good endings, but they weren't terrible either.

ME3's resolution to both the Geth/Quarian conflict and the Genophage were bittersweet in most cases. The end is just bleak, bitter, and speculations about why it's that bad.

Planescape: Torment

I second that. Tbh I don't think any game can top Planescape's story/depth ever.

Just thinking about PST's ending makes me eyes water... That final line "what can change the nature of a man?" And then him accepting his fate...

DAMN YOU, seriously, you probably don't believe me but tears are coming already xD I don't know if it's because there will never be a game I will love more or the realisation that everything else sucks... or something else.

:crying:

Dragon Age: Origins *SPOILERS AHEAD*

My Dalish Elf had a sucky beginning (in that bad things happened to her, not that the story was bad) where she was poisoned and lost her best friend. She finally made piece with that fact in the Gauntlet and then immediately had a hole ripped in her heart when she found him again as something stuck between darkspawn and elf. She romanced Alistair and tried to spare Loghain only for Alistair to claim his birthright and become king and break-up with her because of that. She then left him defending the wall at the final battle and made the ultimate sacrifice to take down the Archdemon. I've never seen my own character's funeral before and that along with Alistair's speech made me want to cry.:crying:

The greatest part about it was getting closure, even if that meant I found out that Harrowmont just isolated the dwarves even further and the dwarf that opened up a chantry was basically lynched for it. I owned my decisions and was happy to read text box after text box about what happened to my friends and the kingdom I left behind. Bioware made me want to replay this game over and over again even though I hated the combat system and that is an amazing accomplishment. I just don't understand why they couldn't do it again...

inFAMOUS 2 hero ending

Now this funny that we both mention this game.

You didn't think the evil ending was bitter sweet as well? That one was actually more heart breaking IMO.

I only played as a hero, so I never got the villain ending. Not sure how it turns out, but if a certain plague-ridden main character dies, then it'd also be a tearjerker, to be sure D:
