Warhammer 40k does it great. Space Marine is a very good example from a previous post.

Red Dead Redemption. I use that example a lot when comparing "bittersweet" and "godawful".

Did anyone actually dislike the ending to RDR? I really wonder if that's possible.

I disliked having to play as Jack with his creepy 70s porn star look.

Halo 3, i shed tears on the last cutscene.

Anderson- "Were it so easy"

"Wake me, when you need me."

I've played so much Halo I read that in MC's voice lol

Sends a shiver through my spine everytime it's so epic.

felt bad for Cortana though, at least EDI got her man ( except in destroy)

though I wasn't a big fan of the overall story, I would very much agree.

" Work ya damn nag"

I nearly puked when I first started playing as him, it's like playing as Batman for 15 hours and then after the game you can only play as Alfred.

Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but: Halo; Reach.

Your squad gets wiped out and Reach falls, but in your last stand, you allow Cortana and the Pillar of Autumn to get off the planet, giving the Master Chief the opportunity he needs to win war.

I would also call Gears Of War 3's ending bittersweet, the scene with Dom was really well done

If we're including movies: Casablanca, all QT movies since pretty much everyone ends up dead in the end, Memento (which is the only movie twist I've ever been shocked by). The Departed. The Third man. On that note I've seen Blade Runner like 5 times and still have no idea what happened in the ending ( I watched multiple different cuts) but the scene on the roof is so great I doubt anyone even cares.

Dragon Age Origins, especially as a female character who was in a relationship with Alistair and chose the right time to tell Morrigan to get lost. Mind you, Alistair annoyed the heck out of me but that ending was phenomenal.

Let's go with the ending of any of "Doctor's" of Doctor Who, all sad, but good none the less.

Metal Gear Solid 3. That's gotta be the best sad ending I've ever seen in a game, as illustrated by the only tear any Snake sheds in the entire series.

In games, Max Payne 2 and Half Life: Episode 2. Great games.

Someone mentioned Dark Knight. Great example.

The films Last Samurai and Gladiator... they both had good bittersweet endings.

this too. I have no idea how guys feel about it (all my fellow whovian friends are girls) but the doomsday ending? I watch it everytime I feel the need to have a good cry. And I'm always screaming at the screen by the end. And then when 10 regenerated I was basically on the floor sobbing in a vegetable like state. It hurts so good.

Games: Halo 3/reach and starcraft / starcraft brood war. h3 leaves MASSIVE amounts of speculation with out leaving gapping holes in the story. Flood/covent are dead, galaxy is saved, before credits give a little peak at whats coming next. And if you want to talk about bleak, in starcraft brood war the main villain, who slaughtered/infested hundreds of innocent people WINS.

For TV shows cow boy bebop. Ive never screamed NOOOOO before ME3 like i have to bebop because while you know what happens, you still can speculate and again, room is left open for more.

The "End of Time" episodes were my favorite of them I think, but "Doomsday" was very good too.

Dr. Who...yes, I didn't even think about that since it hasn't technically ended, but yes, each Doctor's end is great.

Also...huh...I never realized before, but all my Whovian friends are girls too...there...there are guys that like it, aren't there? <_< There've gotta be, somewhere! (And it's not even a "sexy Doctor" phenomenon, cause the majority of my Whovian circle are lesbian)

Also Torchwood, for that matter (it's kinda had 2 endings now. Possibly 3 - main series, Children of Earth, and Miracle Day)

QFT

The Boss/Snake relationship is better than any I have run into in any other games. Hell, it's better than character relationships in most movies.

Consequently, The Boss is my favourite female videogame character. Barring that very last scene she shatters every stereotype of female game characters

Damn, now I have to go replay MGS3. It's a good thing I picked up the HD collection
