About 6 hours in.

Great game.
Great combat.
Great script.
Great dialog and vo's.
Incredible player models, etc.

Now my nitpicks:

1. Stiff hair. Sad to see this. Even NWN1 had a hair bone that moved.
2. The weapons are sized too large. The handle of a 2-handed weapon is at least 5 hands long in game. Should only be two hands long.
3. The 2-handed weapon animation is sad and goofy to watch. Also it does less damage (over an equal time span) when specialized than a basic longsword+shield making the tradeoff pointless. If I have a 25 strength and I specialize in 2-handed weapons, it should not look like I'm struggling to swing it, which it does. I regret the choice after seeing how awkward it looks.
4. The graphics are "ok", but just ok. For example, looks as though speedtree is not used. The forest trees are comparable to Dungeon Seige from like 6 years ago. :(
5. The particle effects used in DAO are a bit behind the DX10 api. For example, you still see the ground floor horizontal clipping when using fog-like effects. This was corrected in DX10 like 2 years ago.
6. I can't find a way to move party members freely while keeping the camera fixed. This is very useful to "set up" the combat like moving miniatures. Instead, the camera jumps to each party member. Very annoying.
7. Sometimes party members just stop fighting in combat and don't reacquire a foe when a lot is going on. Annoying.
8. Lack of simple scripting AI. I had a large fight in the forest and some deer just stood grazing right in the middle of it. Clearly, they should have ran away at the first sight of commotion.
9. All the blur-in, blur-out of the menus is a bit disorienting and unecessary. Although some transition effect is better than none.
10. Can't bash a chest.
11. I never know if a critical hit was done. Doesn't seem to be an indicator for it. And no message log?
12. The hands of the player models are oversized. They look like huge talons.
13. The mute main character idea is really garbage. I don't know who thought of this. When I compare my mute character to playing The Witcher, I much prefer to hear my PC and its more immersive.

All for now. Otherwise, great game.

For the 5 years or so this game was being developed, its way behind the curve. So as I play it, the more disappointed I become. Other observations.

1. The lack of main character dialog is a real setaback. Again, The Witcher set the bar high on that front and DAO has punted on it.

2. The graphics in DAO are not only sub-par (as Game Informer puts it) but borderline awful. For example, instead of making a proper outdoor stairs out of white marble, its a low-res textured "ramp". Very lame. But they did it to broaden the PC requirements to even low-end players. Again, lame.

3. The Witcher has a more fun combat system and 2x better graphics and is now 3 years old at least. A real let down for DAO.

4. The hottest thing in games these days, especially console ones is "cooperative multiplayer". DAO punted on any multiplay at all. Even NWN1 had that.

Overall this game has achieved nothing new, creates no new innovations, does not boldy go where no RPG has gone, etc. etc. It's basically a 3-5 year old RPG technology that looks like NWN1.5. Its bad when a company's older products outshine its newer ones.
