Anyone else notice that reporter was that chick from IGN?  Why was she even in the game?  Did BioWare owe her a favor or something?

To ensure a good review. Same reason why they grant priviliges to other sites as well. Exclusive interviews, goodies and showcase invitations. Surround your name with enough positivity and they will always give you the benefit of the doubt, and in this case even more: subjective criticism.

It's basically buying loyalty, nothing more. I am surprised that they'd do it this obviously, it hurts IGN's credibility enormously.

That much face-time for a good review?  BioWare must have really be expecting a deplorable review then.

I didn't even know who that was, I was always like:"Ugh....her again, she's kind of annoying. No thanks, I'll watch real eye candy in the engine room."

Suddenly found out that the character is modeled after a real person and also voiced by her.

.....aaaaaaaawkward.....

Developers fear review sites, because their bonuses and royalties largely hinge on good reviews. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. It's something I've been starting to see lately: Developers trying to buddy up with various game sites. Chobot is one example. Another example is Volition adding the editor of Cheapassgamer.com as a 'Homie' in Saints Row: The Third.

I hated her. She totally didn't talk like the rest of her species. I thought she was supposed to let us know at the beginning what emotional state she was in so her monotone droning would make sense to human ears.

... She IS an Elcor, right? She certainly sounded like one.

hadnt a clue who it was to be fair, just thought she was some random reporter who i wasnt even connected too. seemed pointless to me she got more coverage than kasumi/zaeed. feel so dissapointed with the way mass effect 3 went.

Meh, I found Allers mainly inoffensive. Kinda liked the whole "hearts and minds" concept behind having a reporter on the ship, and I didn't know who Chobot was 'cos I always considered IGN to be too corporate.

I find it hard to believe that adding the Chobot Drone would be considered to be a fanservice. After looking around the forums and hearing from pretty much everyone I know who've played Mass Effect 3 disliked her. Everything about Diana Allers was done so poorly that she feels so out of place in this game..

They should of brought Wong onto the Normandy instead, or Felicia Day, hell maybe even bring back one of the squadmates from ME2 to report, I'm sure that they'll do a fanastic job compared to Chobot.

If you disagree with me by loving her, thinking Chobot did an awesome job, then you should really listen to yourself! You're indoctrinated by her 'war assets'! Posted Image

Simple. She wanted to be a voice actress and got a job being a voice actress. I don't get why this is so hard to understand. Lots of people have multiple "hats".

Have you seen the absolute vilification of those in the Mass Effect fan base campaigning for a different ending, by IGN? Have you seen the marriage proposal passed as a review on their site?

I'm not suggesting... oh wait. I am.

Wanting to dancing and being able to dance doesn't mean you should cast little 8-year-old Suzie in the next professional rendition of Swan Lake. Or it's like saying Rebecca Black should sing a duet with Aretha Franklin.

If Chobot wanted to be a voice actress, she could've been in a game worthy of her level of talent... such as, I don't know, Call of Juerz: The Cartel or NeverDead or Blades of Time or Farm Simulator 3000.

No, it was not done to specifically raise ME3's review score. That was in the bag beforehand. It is more of the big publishers/devs bringing in the employees of these review sites into the fold. They take 'em out for lunch, maybe give them a few lines in a game. Before you know it, the 'critics' have stopped being critics. The reviewers stop reviewing.

They have become part of the huge publishing machine. They don't even realize they have been 'befriended' by the industry. And that is the scary part. They don't even realize it. (Well the CEO/CFO seeing the add revenue does, but they rarely interfere. It eventually comes out when it does, and it's not pretty)

All the sudden, the raging commenter asking why you gave a perfect score to a product that crashes every 20 minutes are no longer concerned readers with legitimate criticism of a product. Or your evaluation of it. They become entitled 12 year old brats that just don't understand the creative process of bringing a complex video game to market. Just like the conversation you had at lunch with the Ubisoft (or whatever) reps at the game preview you attended last month.....Funny that.

So, the reason she is in there is really part of a much, much larger and long term strategy. A smart one. I honestly would have had no friggin' clue who she was if I had not read it on the forums personally.

I thought her character was fine, an on board reporter that gets the inside intel on the war, she's at least respectable and doesn't report on things that could be bad for morale, and even listens to shepard when he/she tells her to drop the Terra Nova piece.

Haha yeah I was pretty amazed too. Stupid and lame character (in-game.. the real Chobot is magnificent) and the character even looked odd. Oh and that lazy droll tone... drove me nuts. Sorry Chobot. you're cool with the IGN vids but next time, I hope she tries to give life to a character she does. Only the tough cookies like Christiane Amanpour can be permitted to get away with just doing their character..or others equally epic.

Because the Star Child (It made the reapers and crappy lady from IGN) wanted to see first hand how Shepard handles himself/herself in an interview.

Here's a counter-question;
why do people seem to have a grudge against her being in the game?
