No. I play WoW. This has been the first single player game since Zelda Twilight Princess that has been able to hold my attention for more than a single play through. Making it an MMO would dilute it too much.

Plus it would require some major lorelols to make it fit.

lets see what they learn from tor first. it may be good. It might stink too. Besides a mmo with an embedded story will never dethrone one centered around gear hoarding and collecting purples. That is just not what the bulk of the community is trained to do.

An MMO where your character dies permanently if you beat the final boss. That would suck...

Where does this 'easily' come from? Do you even realise what you just said?

"Oh yeah, building a race car in my backyard is a piece of cake. Can be easily done. Assuming I had all the materials, the manual, the mechanics working around the clock, tons of money to pour into the project, mechanics with enough expertise to make the thing operate properly, had a clear race track built to drive the thing on, transportation to and from said race track and a set of gold-plated fluffy dice for the rear-view mirror".

Turning a game like this into an MMO isn't just 'Oh, just flip the mass-multiplayer flag from 0 to 1'. It would have been a completely different direction for the entire project from DAY ONE.

I bought every BioWare game (including MDK 2, if anyone remembers that). The Star Wars MMO will be the first one I don't buy. And I would not buy a DA MMO either. Can you really not see the industry wants to force this concept down your throat only because they can make more money with less effort? But you as a player gain nothing from it, on the contrary. Wake up!

mmo's require epic effort because they focus more on constant content updates then single player games. As the head of BioWare Austin put it "content sucks because it takes so much manpower" DAO is dwarfed by the resources going into TOR. Voice over in TOR is being called the biggest voice over project ever attempted.

Depending on how TOR turns out, I think DA can be made into a good MMO. I'm pretty sure BioWare has stated that a lot of what's going into TOR will be side quests with multiple character involvement, along with the possibility of recruiting NPC party members. There's no way they'd make the story as deep as a single player experience, but being able to explore the world at will is enjoyable. I don't understand why so many people here are crying about MMO's. If you don't like it, don't play it. You don't have to flame other people for wanting one.

I've played just about every MMO out there, and while I don't like the majority, they can still be a decent way to pass time if you're really interested in the lore. The real downside is the amount of immature kids playing and ruining the game, which is ironic considering the people who state the same thing here are the supreme immature forum trolls. Good job guys.

I'm bored with fantasy MMOs, so no thanks. Oddly enough, my first few hours of playthrough in DA:O reminded me of having to slog through Age of Conan, perhaps because the real-time combat, graphics style, bloodiness and level-grind mentality seemed all too familiar. Also, as someone said, this could easily turn generic: IMHO all fantasy MMOs start to look the same after a while because they share the basic template for nation/faction conflict, sword-and-sorcery combat, tank/heal/dps classes and especially graphical content. Why demand more of the same? Count me out.

Every game doesn't have to be multi-player.  We don't need an MMO version of every game.  How about we just add hundreds of obnoxious, spoiled brat NPCs to the game and program them to speak l337, talk smack, and blow your aggro management...isn't that pretty much the same thing?
:P

Erm...no.  That would have easily added years to the project.

Premise for DAO mmo...1 billion grey wardens kill the archdemon which in 30 minutes or the following day would have to respawn for the next group of grey wardens they then proceed to loot. Useless plot device of the monkey and do the exact same thing over again. This game has absolutely no opening for an MMO nor would an mmo of this particular game make any sense or be fun to play. It would be WoW 4.0 and it would fail just like all it's predecessors.

Yes that is exactly what I want: take a story based singleplayer game where I am central to an interesting storyline and change it into an MMO where my quests revolve on killing 10 rats while fending off bots asking me for gold...

@machdelta, despite all your counter arguments the main argument is still that we have 1 game like DOA and dozens of MMO's. I still have a wowaccount and am mildly active, but I like DAO for it is another game than a MMO. Even if DAO is succesfull as a MMO I would mourn the loss of a great rpg (which are my favorite kind of games).

"Dragon age MMO would be epic."

That statement in itself holds some truth to it.

However:

Yet another fantasy MMO? Please, no.

And more importantly: It would decrease the likelihood of a proper sequel/prequel and thus: Hell, no!

SW:TOR will be all the MMO I'll need for the foreseeable future (not counting the occasional stint as a Champion).

why not MMOS are the bigist thing in gameing right now

So i guess your the guy that smokes weed because everyone else is doing it.

MMO's were good when kids didnt play them.

Don't label every kid out there as immature or someone that ruins other's experience, I'm 17 and I'm pretty mature, sometimes the more 'mature' people were acting like kids when I played. Image IPB

typically it's the ones that point out how mature they are that are actually the most immature.

I don't like playing games with other people. I like to limit my online interactions to arguing in web forums.

More seriously, I'm already highly suspicious of how TOR is going to turn out. Bioware excels at plot-driven RPGs, but the game mechanics are always a little bit wonky. And MMOs are almost always plotless, storyless drivel that get reduced to e-peen and drama because they lack anything else of mention.

That said, I've thought for awhile a more limited online RPG would be quite interesting - a sort of RPG/RTS hybrid. Imagine if while one character was playing a hero, another could play the antagonist of the game, sending out squads of assassins, setting up elaborate traps in their fortress, etc. Both would be playing a deep story RPG, just from different roles. There would be problems with timing (maybe set up a "chapter" system where neither player could advance further until the other had time to react). Hell, you could expand it a bit more, and have the minions playable, in a "pop in and out" sort of way. Given multiple points of view, it would take twice as long or more to come up with all the content though.

Here is to hoping the IP stands the test of time and becomes worthy of such an investment.

How exactly would a DAO MMO be ANY different than the fantasy MMO's that exist right now?

Good for you.  Taking a single-player RPG and making it into an MMO isn't "piece of cake."  It would take years and a team of developers.

Putting up with the cool MMO jargon in this forum is bad enough for me. Having it show up in real time would just lead to uncontrollable sobbing on my part.

I have to agree with Staylost... the example wow set on destruction of game lore is too much to be ignored, I prefer normal RPG games because emphasis is on the story not if people will care about pvp capability or who can earn the most gold fast (yes thats probably what is going to develop out of it if they do make an mmo it will just invite gold farmers and potentially destroy the lore, it is just not worth it)

of course there going to make it into a MMO. they can make way more $ from even a crappy MMO than they could from just single player games. and of course this is bioware so i doubt theyll half ass it just to release it early like most other mmos have done and failed because of it.

Would rather like being able to make playerworlds on my own and run a server with room for 50-100 people to play the game that way... MMO no thanks...

Besides DAO is what you can expect in SWTOR as it is already.. not sure if I am going to be able to stand SW:TOR though... I think there would be to many KOTOR fanboys playing it in a way the game would get bad.
