People on this forum are ridiculous when it comes to MMO's. It won't hurt your gaming experience, and this game has alot of MMO potential, that much is clear. I personally enjoy GOOD mmo's and would not mind to try this game out in MMO form.

I agree but first you need to show me an MMO in recent years that was actually good.

I'm beating a dead horse here, but I've said it a dozen times and I'll  say it again: Funcom's sci-fi MMO Anarchy Online. Granted, there are the usual nutters on there and the game can be a grindfest (but which RPG isn't?). Yet the storyline is vast and deep, and there's much potential for RPing and developing one's character, although it's a shame that most folks are in there just for the powerlevelling and nothing else. Apart from the dud that was AoC, I think Funcom has generally managed to deliver versatile and meaningful storylines in each of its games - from Dreamfall to Anarchy Online - and I'm actually looking forward to their upcoming MMO 'The Secret World', which is set in present-day Earth albeit one that is filled with monsters and magic a la urban horror style. It's already attracted quite a huge share of RPers who are merrily chatting away on the forums. There's also no levels and no XP to gain, so the dynamic should be quite different from what MMOers are used to.

Having said that, my main objection to a DA:O MMO would be on that grounds that 1) it's a fantasy universe, and those are overdone; 2) I'm sick of the levelgrind element; 3) MMO universes tend to be static. Despite story potential and whatnot, it's a general truth that developers don't or can't afford to update content beyond the superficial and the occassional expansion pack, so you'll get a feeling of 'same old, same old' soon enough. My two cents.

I really don't understand why people like MMOs. I might not mind LAN (thou occasionally I find myself disliking that too) but all in all I highly prefer solo especially for RPGs.

A Dragon Age MMO could be fun if it wasn't filled with people who use words like epic.

Well...I guess people like MMO because the game never "ends" and you have a chance to talk to other people who share the same passion: Playing RPG :-)

I think it depends on if you want to share your expirence with others or not...

Wether or not Dragons Age will make a good MMO is a good question but, wether or not IT WILL be turned into an MMO... well that falls along the same lines as "Is the pope catholic" and "does a bear **** in the woods".

If there was a way to bet online wether or not Dragons Age becomes an MMO, I would throw my house keys into the pot without even blinking, because thats as safe a bet as one can make.

Dragons Age is already an MMO.. they just haven't released it yet.

Nope.  Just because you can make something MMO isn't always a good idea.  I cherish the moments when I can find a single player game I can enjoy by myself.
There are way plenty of multiplayer games out there.  Play and enjoy one of them and leave us to our few and far apart single-player RPGs.

Nutshell.

No. I hate MMOs. I like my games to have a good story with character development and, most importantly, an ending. If MMOs ever have a definitive ending, I'd try it again, but I doubt that'd happen because the LACK of an ending is what keeps people playing MMOs.

Well MMO's aren't for everyone and certainly I wouldn't consider it a roleplaying game. Its what I like to refer to as a fantasy simulator. You pretend to live in a fantasy world instead of your own and just like in a real life world there is no end (other then death and taxes) and you don't play for any particular purpose other then the journey. Its a fun way to spend time (if you like open ended games) and certainly I can understand why hardened RPG fans might not take to it.

Still RPG fans take note, your a minority. There are about 20 million people in the world playing MMO's, so that's a resounding "Yes Please!!!" to continue making great MMO's based on cool franchises exactly like Dragons Age. Which is why I say its not a matter of IF Dragons Age will be an MMO, its just about WHEN.

Must say, I've gotten a bit of an MMO burnout the past year.Yeah, it's nice how one can socialize while playing a game, but at the same time, it will eventually start to become demanding (get online at time X for raiding etc.) while it doesn't offer the "ready to go when you are" playstyle that a single player game has. So I for one would think a DA MMO would be a waste of resources. Not to mention how it's a rather hard market to get into at this moment anyway, with WoW still controlling a considerable chunk of it, especially the Fantasy variety.

I'm actually happy that BW took the time to make an interesting Single player game, and hope they'll continue to do so in the future

I dislike WoW, a lot, despite the fact that the characters like the Lich King and Deathwing and etc are interesting, WoW completely killed it off for mine.

And a DA MMO? That would just be fail, asif you can incoporate an immense amount of dialogue, immersive quests, while constantly trying to add new content. WoW's questlines are all about farming for this, and then doing this hard boss fight which takes about 40-50 people, nothing special about that at all. The class balancing is even worse, simply because people are so intent on everything being equal, despite what the world's lore may suggest. The OP can't be older than 14-15...he's just a sheep.

While some people may enjoy WoW, please refrain from posting about how "epic" it would be turning a great game like DAO into a mindless game like WoW

Does that mean I'd have to endure immature kids hopping around and shouting "LOL" all day? Or brainless XP-grinding and "kill/collect x amount of stuff" -quests? Not forgetting the endless hoarding for better gear.

No thanks, I'd rather keep the immersion intact. To me, a good game is like a good book, when I get into it, it's an experience no MMO could offer.

While there are RP-communities in MMO-games, there's also people who would gladly destroy even tiniest RP-experiences with bull****-RP and trolling. And I have zero tolerance for that.

Pardon me for not being more cheery but mentioning MMO will make me see red. :pinched:

I don't know if MMO will work with dragon age, but I wouldn't mind something like NWN where players get to make their own map and be able to explore it with friends. Image IPB

That's just Naive.  First off, World of Warcraft is a 5 year old MMO and a lot has changed about MMO's.  Star Wars: The Old Republic has about 4000 hours of dialogue, so thats more dialogue than you could get if you combined all the single player RPG's in the last decade into a single game, so Im sorry to disapoint but you actually get considerably more and higher quality dialogue in modern MMO's then anything you can get in a single player game.

The concept of "Farming" was already old when WOW was released and almost all MMO's in development today have absolutly nothing to do with it so its safe to say that a Dragons Age MMO would reflect this new development style of MMO's.

The truth is that Dragon's Age is one of a dying breed of games (The single player RPG) which actually plays more like a MMO then any single player game I have ever played (Which is probobly why I like it).  The controls are the same, questing is the same... For all intense and purposes Dragons Age already is an MMO in every way that counts.

They have no real end , you can level every class there is to max level and that would take years and years and years

I have played Everquest Online Adventures & FFXI as my MMOs so far

On EQOA I got a Mage to max level and I think a warrior too , amongst playing all the other classes to at least mid level

On FFXI I got a DRK BLM & BLU to max level as well as WAR to high lvl

I played each game for several years , all day every day at that and thats not even half the classes in either game , to get every class to max level could take an entire decade in some games

The problem with MMOs is that their is very little room in a persistant world for so many heros and still keep it believable. The only MMO that has really made something difference in that regerd is Eve Online. Which for me is where MMOs should be going in the future.

DA:O Just doesn't fit into that mould its not gritty or harsh enough IMO

Yeah ,FFXIV is coming , by the time a DA MMO could come out I'd be too busy with FFXIV to care and then wouldn't even switch likely

More than enough MMOs out there? Well yeah , lots of crap ones

In my world only 3 MMOs exist : Everquest , WoW , Final Fantasy , all others are obsolete crap I would never even consider trying

Those 3 have the name recognition to have a large player base and not desolate servers , and the only ones made by trustable quality companies
(Only excluding the starwars thing because when I refer to MMOs I mean traditional swords magic & dragons RPG MMOs)
Of course if a DA MMO did exist I would consider it the 4th legitimate MMO series in existance though

Was playing DA the other day and asked my boyfriend who sits opposite me what time it was.
He said: can't you just type /time or something?
I was like...no...there are no chat windows! And I love it! You can be totally immersed in your game without 1. having to keep an eye on the chat and 2. being spammed with mindless conversations, goldselling spam, SWE??? spam or epic link spam or with supposed English sentences where numbers are words.

Oh, and my party never goes "AFK 20 mins dinner" or has "accidental" d/cs or ninjas any loot. AND they run out of the fire!

I think the person calling it a "MMO burnout" coined it really well.

When I found out that BioWare is turning KOTOR into an MMO, I was utterly disgusted. They ruined what would have probably been a good franchise. They don't need to do the same to Dragon Age.

Also, what the person in front of me said. I was a Raid Leader in WoW all through out the original and BC. I can't take any more of that stress. How f*cking hard is it to NOT stand infront of a boss that f*cking cleaves for double their HP? How hard is it for a Druid to spam rejuv and lifebloom?! These are simple things that idiots and clickers turn into complicated things. No thank you.

A good MMO, played with mature, intelligent and focused friends, or if you're lucky random aquaintances of the same quality can be very rewarding.

FFXI on the xbox360 has given me almost 5 years of continuous entertainment. Interacting with all the strange and wonderful people out there in the world has given me perspective on many issues i've never gained from a single player game.

Working in a team with up to 18 other real, emotional, thinking human beings enhances tactics in a way that AI can never give you, and living in a world with literally millions of the same imparts a feeling of community unsurpassed in other genres.

Without that game i would have missed out on meeting the best friend i've ever had, and some of the most admirable and cunning enemies too.

And MMO's do have an ending, FFXI is most definetly dead to me, the RMT have killed it.

A marriage of the MMO genre and the KOTOR universe is frankly very appealing to me. I think KOTOR has good MMO potential due to the huge variety of species, weaponry, planets etc in the SW universe that can give a VR world depth and life.

Unfortunately i don't think DA:O has that depth so maybe it's better it stays SP.

SWTOR is the most promising project i see in Biowares future, i can't wait to dive in, i would say two things though Bioware, please make a lower age cap "16+?" on players, and enhance security or find some other way to eliminate in-game currency trading, those two moves will dramatically increase the games worth to dedicated players.

If WoW is someones only experience of MMO then i suggest they try a different one as WoW although a rich, engaging world, seems to attract an undesirable amount of, well, undesirables to put it plainly.
