Today morning, the game arrived, and I started unpacking it, smiling in an anticipation of a weekend spent playing a great RPG. My smile soon disappeared, when I saw the contents. DVDs with game - check. Manual and serial code - check. BUT: then there is this pamphlet with an activation code that I need to enter into my Bioware/EA account to access all the downloadable content packs (DLCs). AND underneath the activation code is a paragraph in fine print, that reads: Code expires July 30th, 2011. ?!
How is this possible? So I bought a game that has been invalid for playing for more than 7 months?! I know that this code was for unlocking the DLCs, and the vanilla game would probably work anyway, but the main reason why I bought the Ultimate edition were exactly the DLCs! If you look at my profile you can see I already own DA: Origins. I just wanted to have all the DLCs nicely packed in one box, so I don't have to re-download them each time I reinstall Windows or get a new PC.
Look at this: http://dragonage.bio...order-ultimate/ - this is the official Bioware website, advertising this edition. They plainly LIE to every potential buyer! "Also includes the Following Downloadable Content..." "All nine additional content packs" etc. etc.
It has been seven months since the activation code inside the box expired, and there has been NO update on this website that would reflect this change!
On the box of the game, there is NO word about DLCs being a limited-time offer, either! You only find out about this scam when you buy the game, and open the box.
In my country, giving false/misleading information about products you are selling is a criminal act. Same goes for selling EXPIRED PRODUCTS, without clearly labeling them as such. And I am sure it is a criminal act in many other countries, definitely in whole of EU.
PLEASE don't tell me "this is Electronic Arts issue, go cry to them, they are the distributor of the game"
I am going to contact EU support, demanding a new activation code, I will, dont worry. And if they won't provide it, I am returning the game back to the shop.
But these forums seem the only way how I can reach anybody from Bioware, and let them know how this "ultimate edition" is tarnishing the company's reputation. I wanted to write a formal letter of complaint about this whole thing, but from their website bioware.com I couldn't find any proper email adress for it.
Imagine this: "you buy a pizza from a pizzeria restaurant, and you want to get it delivered to your home. On the way to you, the delivery boy drops the pizza in the mud. He also decides to eat a bit of it, and spit on the remaining pizza. You find out, and call to the pizzeria explaining the situation. And they will tell you "oh this is not our problem. We cooked a great and delicious pizza, contact the delivery boy who damaged it." Even if they are right, will you ever buy another pizza from them?"
I know for sure, if EA/Bioware ever realease some other "ultimate edition" of their games, I will not buy it.
I do not expect official response from anyone in Bioware about my letter, but still, if any of the moderators/staff here at these forums could re-post it to them, I would be grateful.
I have to add one more thing. WHY. Why are EA/Bioware doing this? Why sell a game that is valid only for a limited time? What do they ever hope to gain from this, besides making everyone who buys it angry? Do they really expect that we gamers are patient mindless sheep, and that we will simply buy those DLCs if we want to play them, even though we already paid for them in the price of the Ultimate Edition?
