Ew, you've put almost as much time into this thread as I have. Surely you can see where effort meets futility?

I have no doubts about it seeing the developer we deal with, I'm a positive thinker though. Build it and they will come :D

So you say, just give up and accept that you got screwed backwards to front?

I missed the part where you're a Bioware employee.

Google -> Dictionary -> "Sarcasm", it's a good read, maybe you should try it.

Okay, 3rd call to Sony yielded slightly more information. This will be my last one as to be honest it feels as thought I'm flogging a dead horse and it's costing me both time and money to get these conversations.

Anyway, after I waited for 40 minutes (no joke) I spoke to a lady who, like the previous 2 Sony employees I'd contacted, had no idea what I was talking about. To clarify, she wasn't ignorant as to the BioWare events specifically, but rather to the whole concept of PS3 users being unable to participate in an online event available to other formats. She passed the call through to a gentleman who was slightly more helpful - he understood what I was asking but said he had no information on what BioWare had requested or what the issues might be. I persevered, and explained I'd now been on the phone for over an hour (my phone bill is going to be ludicrous) and would really appreciate it if someone could throw me a bone.

The chap transferred me again, this time to a lady who sounded much more on-the-ball. She explained that she knew precisely what I was referring to, and apologised for the her colleagues' being unaware of the situation. However, she explained that their role wasn't really to help with developer-specific issues but rather online problems in general. As such the staff training and awareness didn't cover this particular situation. She went on to advise that solutions to the problem are currently being investigated, but that she is not allowed to comment further on the specifics of either the problem or the potential solution. Her tone at the 'not allowed' part of that conversation brooked no argument and I decided to leave it there.

So take from that what you will. My conclusion is that things are generally as they seem. That is, there is a technical issue (most likely on Sony's end) that is preventing BioWare from enabling the functionality that would allow PS3 users to participate in the event weekends. Both BioWare and Sony have told me that they are working on a solution to this problem.

Personally I am finished with this now. It's taken up a fair bit of my time and I'm content that the powers that be are endeavouring to find a solution. Moreover, I'm absolutely convinced that continual complaints will do nothing to expedite the process.

So let's play nice and hope for the best.
