If I attacked you, I do apologize. It wasn't my intention.

I was under the impression that I was pointing out to you that you insulted the community as a whole and some individual community members who did not attack you but simply asked you if it was possible to redirect neverwinterconnections.com to http://neverwintervault.org/calendar.

They even added 'for the time being' which sounded to me like they just wanted that for as long as the new connections site isn't working yet.

And yes, I saw fit to neglect this thread because quite frankly there are parts of NWN that interest me a lot more than multiplayer. Not everybody has to read each thread or even each sub-forum to be part of the community.

But if someone starts insulting the community, I will not let them do so and say nothing, even if that means posting in a sub-forum I only read on occasion.

I don't know why you see everything as an attack on your person and start to snap at everybody.

Well Ehye I posted my PM to you in this thread because I wanted transparency. All can see that there is no snark in it. If you took it that way, thats too bad.

All that aside however. What is going to come of this?

Art assets have nothing to do with the status of neverwinterconnections. Simply put, you failed to deliver on your promise. Years have passed and you've got nothing to show for it.

You've got three options here

(1) Finish the website

(2) share the URL

(3) none of the above

What is it going to be?

This thread lay silent for two plus years after my request for art help.

First post in does not ask for a link but suggests I should redirect the whole url.

Second post in is full of snarky comments from a poster associated with the 'Thay' server.

Third post is from Hensua who suggests "Control of the URL and IP address should be given over to the community." So this would imply that what, that Hensua is the community? I won't even pretend that this statement reflects an understanding of the terms used in it. Do you mean "Domain Name"? Who exactly is 'the community' or are we to presume that would be you?

Now, I emphasize that for two years two months and some odd days after I asked this community on this forum in the official 'relaunching of neverwinterconnections.com' thread I get nothing, followed by a whole page of topic-derailing posts in a flurry.

Again, go make your own thread.

I have been in the web hosting business since 1987. I can tell you with sure knowledge that polite is to ask for a link. Presumptious is to publicly ask for redirect without so much as inquiring as to the state of the system. I am not sure I have a polite word for what it is to suggest "Control of the URL and IP address should be given over to the community" ... maybe 'jargon-impaired'.

When nice people approach us politely they get results like Pascalbrax and iscandar.ch did. Take a lesson from how that nice fellow works; first he contacts the other party privately, arranges a meeting for dialog, graciously accepts lore from fellow programmers, turns same into a new feature for his own use.

Good luck to you all on your new project. Again, go make your own thread, do not further derail this thread.

neverwinterconnections.com continues to seek help with needed art.

Anyone interested in helping with this or with funding of the site should contact us through our forum.

What are you going to do?

Cool beans, Baaleos.

I will be able a little late to this party, but I am coming. I am in the middle of a career shift back to tech after 15 years, and just put in notice at my non-tech job. I will be out of there in four weeks. A project like this will be fun and I look forward to it.

My plan is to improve the interface of the calendar at the neverwinter vault, and then after that extend its functionality. I currently have no idea how any of those systems work, but we should be able to make it work. I'll start on that in the second half of May. Yeah, thats far out, but thats the best I can do.

It would be nice if we could collaborate on this in order to achieve an interface that the community can interact with from their own web-sites or even applications on their computer. (Heck - with a properly constructed API, you could make the calendar system exposed to nwscript itself : Adding events from inside nwn?)

Eg: Register on the Vault - get an API Key, and then anyone who has an API key 'can' if they want, have 'add' privilages to the Calendar.

They can also have 'view' privileges and 'delete' for their own events.

This way, we can moderate the API Access.

With regards to the rant on this topic : If a site is left in disarray for 2 years, and the excuse is 'we need art', it kinda feels like sandbagging to me.

If I failed to even attempt to finish a project at work, and my reason was 'because I was waiting for 'insert name here' to finish X. I would be criticized for my inaction.

Why not even just add temporary images, or black backgrounds- anything is better than nothing.

No one was expecting a perfect looking finished article first time lucky.

Something functional, still could have been constructed regardless of visual quality.

Lets go all Capitalist

You own the Domain, are you getting any use out if?

Would you be willing to sell the rights to it to someone who will put it to better use and less prone to tantrums?

Yes, Baaleos, we will collaborate. I am getting my professional life sorted. I will be slow to get started. I need a month to free up some schedule, and then I can hit this.

I'm not interest in any of your obfuscation, Ehye.

What are you going to do?

There is no obfuscation here that is not caused by your lack of reading comprehension. Ask a grown-up to help you with the words you don't understand.

You have been asked repeatedly to not derail the thread.

LOL, brilliiant. Now that you've carped on me for days, NOW you finally ask questions. Thimble full of lore and a bucket full of loud opinion. At this point I'm disinclined to share the whys and wherefores with you, you never wanted that information anyway, you came here intending to disparage me and you have.

LEAVE THE THREAD, its purpose is the reboot of Neverwinterconnections.com a matter with which you have NO INVOLVEMENT. In fact you've intentionally had no hand in helping out for several years. So stop griping. Either HELP or go away. There are rules int he forum and you are violating them.

Anyone interested in helping can do so by contacting us at the link below:

Ehye, you really, really need to calm down.

I don't have a horse in this race, at all - I haven't used neverwinterconnections before, I probably won't in the future. I don't know you. I don't know anyone in this thread except by hearsay and the occasional post I've read.

What I do know is the posts done within this thread. And no matter whether you are right in your accusations, no matter if anyone is displaying bad behaviour, your own words make you look paranoid and arrogant, you issued blanket insults to the entire NWN community, and that ontop the fact that for whatever reason, justified or not, you have not been able to deliver on your plans for neverwinterconnections.

I know sometimes people get emotional - however, your reaction is the worst possible advertisement you could provide, both for your server and for other projects made by yourself, such as neverwinterconnections. If other posters really want to attack your reputation... well, they don't exactly have to, as long as you provide them with the ammunition like that.

Just... calm it down, and remember that the end result should be a site useful to the community, no matter whether you or others complete it. Everyone here is at least supposed to have that in mind.

Wow - loving the arrogance

Ok, fair enough, don't answer the 'whys and wherefores' of why NeverwinterConnections has laid in a dilapidated state for at least 2 years.

I know how this works - One day we have a brilliant idea to start a project, and it can be disparaging to be the only person contributing. I've been there, I've promised things to players and then lost enthusiasm. The reason why I was never burnt at the stake is because

1. It was something that players could live without

and

2. I kept the players or stakeholders apprised.

The unfortunate thing here is that you just happened to promise something that the community actually wanted, which was fundamental to the project as a whole: Its not like you promised them a nifty chat room to go on the existing site. You promised them a site... and instead they got a non-functional mess.

When one of my sites goes offline or experiences 404 errors or whatever, I actually feel a sense of urgency to fix it. Your priorities have obviously laid elsewhere however.

Thimble full of lore

Criticize my experience when your own creation isn't having a 404 errors on the css stylesheet. So far you have demonstrated nothing to suggest you possess the experience required to judge anyone.

First this:

You have been asked repeatedly to not derail the thread.

If I was you I'd stop worrying about the thread, and concern yourself with the task at hand - which is the topic of the thread, and which we are all discussing here. But this is another choice you will have to make.

Second:

There is no obfuscation here that is not caused by your lack of reading comprehension. Ask a grown-up to help you with the words you don't understand.

Ehye, you have done nothing but attack and throw up smoke screens in you last few posts.

I have not attacked you once. What I have done is ask you a direct question.

Your answer has never been direct. Right now you have implied that you will carry on with the status quo for this project which has resulted in failure for three years.

Thats not good enough.

What are you going to do?

Say it clearly. Avoid the smoke screens and the attacks. Just declare quite clearly what you will do.

I have made it simple for you and shown you the only three choices you have.
(1) Complete the project
(2) Hand over the URL
(3) Neither

So far you have implied (1) with zero assurance that you will avoid what you have done so far, option (3). Again that is not good enough.

Declare your intentions.
