According to that the Diciple too has a little better DPS, and also the Wraith which has quite a bit better DPS.
Whoops, yeah, missed the disciple. It does slightly (~3 better) dps. I also hear it stuns, which could be useful. I honestly haven't played with it enough to judge it properly.

DPS is the least important attribute you should be looking at for a Vanguard weapon. You want light weight, burst damage, and stagger. Something you can use from range is also nice.
Just to be clear, I'm talking about human novaguards. I don't play drell/asari vanguard. It's entirely possible shotgun are best for them, I have no idea.
For novaguards, burst damage and stagger are not particularly important since anytime you need burst damage or stagger, you can just charge-nova. You need DPS against banshees and range for when charging would put you in a bad position.

For me, the difference between 200% cooldown and ~170% is negligible. Never equipped only a pistol and never will, sort of takes the point out of it for me.
Are you talking about human vanguards or asari/drell?

Maybe I'm readthing the sheet wrong, but I'm seeing a Carnifax with a DPS of 460.2-575.2 vs. the Spike thrower at 1280 - 1600. Now I understand the Graal is not a light weapon, that's why it does more damage and why I'm giving up recharge speed.
Again, I would ask if this is human vanguards or asari/drell. Because charge-nova invincibility spam is the best weapon for a novaguard by a wide margin. I would rather go without any weapon at all than take higher cooldowns.
