2 questions.

1.) Will it likely be a deep RPG on-par with New Vegas?

2.) Would my 2009 Mac laptop be capable of running it?

1. **** yea and more! It's ****ing Brian Fargo! Wasteland is what spawned the Fallout franchise in the first place. It had open world exploration, tons of dialogue so much of it the game had came with a book that you had to read from because of the 1mb limit and well it's been a long time since I've played. Fallout 1 is basically everything the team had learned from Wasteland except all purty and Fallout 2 well hell it's the best in the series imo. Obsidian can use everything they learned during New Vegas's development, which I think had a lot of ideas from Van Burean the true Fallout 3, to write the story and characters while Fargo and team works on the world and mechanics. It's a super group really.

2. Well Wasteland 1 ran on a Apple II so who knows? We know nothing about the engine, platform or requirements.

What do you mean by deep? As far as choice and consequence goes, Fargo has constantly emphasized the point, so I imagine it will have at least as much as New Vegas does. Is that what you meant by deep?

2.) Would my 2009 Mac laptop be capable of running it?

Not knowing what your Mac's hardware is, or how the final game is even going to look, that's an impossible question to answer. But, Wasteland 2 probably won't be very demanding on hardware. The focus is on gameplay before 'cutting edge' graphics. It might not have real-time 3D graphics at all.

If Chris Avellone and company from Obisidian is on the writing then I'm onboard. The writing for Alpha Protocol, New Vegas and Kotor 2 were all solid. I'll be looking out for this one.

They are saying Chris Avellone would be helping with "writing and design."

Heck, I'm on board just because the idea of devs being funded by fans instead of controlled by publishers tickles me.

Now things are getting interesting. You can never have enough post-apocalyptic wastelands.

That's actually not true...

But I'll support this project despite the over-abundance of post-apocalyptic games because Wasteland is where the whole genre started; it deserves a continuation.

I'm not much into post apocalyptic or turn based games, but after doing some reading on this I respect what these guys are trying to do, and it's cool Avelone is on board. Should be interesting to see if it pans out.

Sorry if the whole donation thing rubs me the wrong way, but as an artist I never get a client's money up front, nor would I ask for it.

And yet people commissioning works of art up front has been done throughout history. Or would you rather we didn't have the Sistine Chapel, much of the work of DaVinci and heck, most of the Renaissance artists...

-I commissioned masks for a masquerade for me and the SO. Custom job from one of the most talented in the business (check out Wendy Drolma.com) and had to pay up front. Didnt bother me any and I got precisely what I asked for.

As much as I dislike Obsidian, BioWare could very well be shown up if Wasteland 2 is a success. I hope it is.

Maybe there's an over-abundance if you play shooters like Rage and whatever the heck Borderlands is, but as an RPG fan I've only touched Fallout 3 and New Vegas from recent memory that were post-apocalyptic.

Windows, OSX, and Linux are confirmed. It might also come out on iOS and even Android.

Yes you can, we've reached my limit, I'd far prefer something cyberpunk or steampunkish.

I prefer fantasy settings myself. But we are getting an old school/turn based RPG being made by a team of great rpg minds, so I sure as hell ain't gonna complain.

Like Jozape said, I don't play games like Borderlands and Rage, so it's not really played out for me.
