I haven't seen much discussion of this part of the game and I'm curious: what did you think of the mission? An interesting change of pace in terms of environment and gameplay? Jarring and unfitting compared to everything around it?

I definitely felt it was somewhat out of place during my playthrough, although that might be due to it reminding me too much of Saints Row: The Third (which is obviously wildly different in tone). However, I've only played it once and I'd have to play it again to be sure of my opinion. I 'd like to know other users thoughts on it.

I was expecting to hop on a motorcycle with Legion at my side.

In all seriousness, I didn't like the mission itself (shooting orange squares... I mean come on), but getting to know the Geth consensus and memories better was nice. So no regrets, I liked it.

I enjoyed it mainly for the Geth/Quarian revelations.

Still thought there should have been 'enemies' not just tentacles to shoot.

Yeah, it reminded me of Saint's Row too, but that doesnt mean I didnt think it was a fun level.

It kinda drags on in repeated playthroughs though. The same way Thane's loyalty mission got really tedious the more times I did it in ME2.

One of my favorites. Along the lines with Samara and Thane's loyalty missions in ME2. I'm all for more missions with nothing but exposition and no killing.

Just like the dream sequences except with more plot revelations, the same effect could have been given with terminals like those in the cerberus mission but it's deliberatly done in a very slow tedious way to drag gameplay out.

Probably someone thought a tron like sequence would be cool way of explaining the quarians/geth but no one could be bothered/had time to actually create a proper combat mission for it

It was poor from a gameplay point of view, but the insight into the Geth was interesting.  It really "humanized" them so to speak.

Of course the end of the game invalidated all that because the Star Child says organic-synthetic conflict is inevitable even though I spent a bunch of time in the last 2 games gradually learning that they really weren't that different from us.  Sorry, Geth, no soul for you, the Cosmic Brat says so!

It was a very interesting mission...

But I'm sorta confused, you see the quarians masked because you have never seen what they really looked like. So what if you romanced Tali in ME2? You got to see her face so shouldn't you see them mask-less?

My guess is no anyway...

The thing with Thane's loyalty mission, the the geth consensus mission, is that theres no way to speed it up.

If I've already done Samara's mission 20 times and know all the dialogue, I can skip it. Cant speed up the turian politician in Thane's mission or the archive videos in the geth consensus mission

When Legion asks how many quarians you've seen unmasked, Shepard says only one, and then I believe Legion says something to justify why you dont see their faces, but I cant actually recall what it was

I shot as many tentacles as I could because I'm obsessive like that. It was short enough that I didn't care but the whole thing was cheese.

Yeah I was sort of expecting Reaper holograms to attack me or something. I still enjoy it, but the level is fairly boring.

I actually really enjoyed it! I actually quite liked that we didn't have enemies to fight in it, it was a welcome break and it fit the tone of the level. The quarian/geth story points were really nicely done, and honestly I LOVED the environment design. It was just different enough from the rest of the game to be extremely visually striking, and similar enough that I didn't feel like I was in a completely different game.

So yeah, A+++++ Whenever I'm on this board and say "I really loved the entire Rannoch arc" I'm often thinking of that mission in particular.

Loved that mission, I don't need to shoot at things all the time to enjoy something, ESPECIALLY if I'm playing Mass Effect (God a button to skip combats would be great). It's the story that keeps me going, it's the story what's important, and the Consensus was all about story, and it was brilliant. Loved it to bits.

It was interesting to learn that the Widow and Vindicator are both 300 year old weapons.

it was well done and a nice change of pace from the other side missions. I wish more of the game was like it.

I'm in the "enjoyed the exposition of the geth/quarian story arc, could live without the gameplay" camp.

I find the mission to be boring, but I've gone through it several times in different playthroughs.

yeah but the missions aren't exactly that long, it's only 5-10 minutes of so of following the dude around.

Im curious do you not feel the same way about the more combat heavy missions? For me I have no problem with exposition multiple times but after a few play throughs the N7, go here and clear out Ceberus missions just got really repetitive and tedious for me.

to me it felt weird and out of place. No real enemy to fight no sense of danger. No sense of "where's the next enemy going to pop up from".

That said it's one of my favorite moments in the series. Anything w/ legion is awesome and it was a really fun/smart way for Bioware to show us that the war between Geth and Quarians isn't exactly what we thought. The Quarians aren't some sad race that was driven out by the violent and destructive Geth. By the time it was finished I felt sorry for the Geth. When given the choice on Rannoch I didn't hesitate to tell Legion to upload the code. Then again I made sure I had enough stuff in place so I could make peace :) Can't have my girl jumping over a cliff.

I kept waiting for something to happen. It was kind of a cool interactive cut-scene, but without any way to fail, or get lost or....do something even a little bit different there really wasn't much tension. I guess it was a decent way to tell the story of the morning war, but the mission needed something.

One of the best missions. Well made and interesting revelations. If you don't care about the plot then yeah don't bother.

Games don't need to have OH MY GOD WE NEED TO KILL A MILLION ENEMIES FRACK YEAH SHOOTING GUNS PEW PEW to be good...it was an abstract story mission.

I really liked it. It was a great change of pace, some fantastic plot revelations, and Legion.

Not everything has to be about killing Cerberus, Reapers, or Geth.
