I do like that it was about the plot and not wading through a parade of the usual enemies, but I'm just not sold on the concept in this kind of game.
Thoughts on the virtual reality Geth Consensus mission?

kind of hated it to be honest...the gameplay mechanic was boring as hell, and I would have much rather just had a mission like the cerberus one where I fought, and then found a couple of files that told me the same thing I had to go tentacle shooting for half an hour to get. Was kind of cheap how they didn't show the quarians as well...i can't see their faces because I've never seen one, but I can use a huge lazer gun to destroy imaginary boxes of data...that I have much more personal experience in.

I actually really enjoyed it! I actually quite liked that we didn't have enemies to fight in it, it was a welcome break and it fit the tone of the level. The quarian/geth story points were really nicely done, and honestly I LOVED the environment design. It was just different enough from the rest of the game to be extremely visually striking, and similar enough that I didn't feel like I was in a completely different game.
^ This. It was, for me at least, a welcome break from all the shooting, plus I really liked learning more about the Quarian/Geth conflict. And I loved the environment design.
