Forbes editorialists really got slapped in the face and on the bottom by the endings it appears, he he he !

I think one of the best things was that he points out how the BioWare response is merely PR gloss . I think people keep pointing to the response by the company as if it was something substantial , but he rightly points out it's just spin to delay everything .

Kain has been consistently the most logical, objective and civil media voice throughout this debacle. Another good read.

Yay Forbes! Eric Kain stating that he's not really a fan of ME is icing on the cake.

I was dismayed at Yahtzee's opinion... though it's not really surprising. I love his "reviews", but I can't say I agree with his views on a lot of things.

Personally, I’m not invested in any of this. I’m not really a Mass Effect
fan to begin with; it’s not my cup of tea. But purely from a business
angle, it makes good sense to hear what your customers are saying and
respond – and not just with PR-gloss. Actions speak louder than words.

I can just imagine morning meetings at Forbes.com where the editors discuss what they are working on. One dudes talking about earnings reports, another on the tech cycle, and our guys are like "Mass Effect 3 ending again."

E.D. Kain made another article.

What is your opinion?

Well I agree with the article 100%.

Bioware used to say that we co-made the game with the developers.  They always had good interaction between us and them.  Now, suddenly, they are crying foul and claiming "artistic integrity" and pretty much going back on their previous stance.

Hopefully come April the "fix" we were promised from Dr Ray Muzyka, will be an actual improved ending and not some crappy DLC that just "explains" the current ending for those of us "that don't get it".  Bioware is on shakey ground here if you think about it.  DA fans were disappointed in DA2, they just made the most expensive game in history (SWTOR) and now this.  They could lose a chunk of their fanbase if they don't swallow their pride and do the right thing.

Several good points. #1 is especially good. We're not talking about some indie game here. Corporate interests already influence the art. This is more akin to a summer blockbuster than Sundance. #6 is also very compelling just from a business perspective. Like he said, this is commercial art. When a customer isn't satisfied they have every right to at least make that known.

There goes my last bit of interest in Zero Punctuation and Yahtzee's cynical way of viewing everything while holding himself above everyone else.

I find myself agreeing with the argumentation presented in the article. I think it offers a reasonable and coherent explanation as to why the artistic integrity argumentation against changing the ending is naïve and unrealistic when put in contrast with today's proceedings in the industry.

However, I don't understand why people are even taking Yahtzee seriously. I understand why his Extra Punctuation article was used as a basis for the Forbes article, but Yahtzee clearly has no idea what he's writing about. He's funny, he's a comedian, but he's not a credible journalist.

This is what Yahtzee writes will happen if BioWare change/add to the ending:

The series will effectively have no ending, just a big gap with the words “Audience: Fill In Your Preferred Ending Here"

I find it outright ironic that this is exactly the way the ending is in its current form with "lots of speculation for everyone" and, according to Casey Hudson, exactly the way BioWare wanted it. Yahtzee is either biased or has not clearly researched the issue.

I'm not even going to address his calling the fanbase "idiots." That's just below me.

I'm still very surprised that this guy cares so much. Not complaining though, his articles are very good.

i personally like the part where he says "he's not attached."  it should drive the point further - this is an outsider to these forums and this game world.  his perspective is completely unbiased.

Nice, an in depth look at what it means to maintain 'artistic integrity'. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Well tbh what i admire most about this, is not the issue about ME3's ending. If you read all his articles, its not really what he is writing about. Although its a part of it. He is taking into light much larger issues. One of them beeing the gaming media. And how biased, and how poor journalists they are. He also points out the fact that they are shooting themselves in the foot regarding alienating their own readers by calling them "idiots".

He also picks apart the "artistic" integrity issue, and points out the huge flaw it is to go PR, on an internet base consumer base. It just dosnt work.

I mean i like his take on the ending as well, but some of the issues he brings upp are actually "important", as in real world important, not slighted by crappy game ending important.
