Mage vs. Templar and Organic vs. Synthetic - Am I the only one who thinks this is really where Bioware has been going wrong?

I have a hard time understanding why Bioware has been going with this type of theme in their games lately. DA:O the theme was to unite various groups around one common goal: Overall Survival. When DA2 came out, the main theme was changed from this idea of banding together for the common good, and move toward a "I'm a Mage/Non-mage, therefore, your opposing group of Non-mages/Mages are bad" type of theme.

With the Mass Effect series, I always saw it to be more of a "investigation leaving to discover a significant threat that threatens everything and doing what you can to stop it" type of theme. Going into ME3, I knew it was going to be different from the previous two in that the "significant threat" is already there and you only had to look out a window to see it.

What truly ruined ME3 for me was that Bioware decided that this kind of "templar vs. mage" conflict was what the ultimate ending theme of the game should be and what side shepard chose to stand with.

Why? Why does bioware find this type of "You are different from me, and that is bad" idea acceptable to put into series that have already more established and pronounced conflicts and themes in these games?

Don't get me wrong, if bioware created a series that started out with this kind of "Group A vs. Group B" conflict from the very beginning, I would welcome it. But don't throw it in as a twist to make a sequel more "exciting."

Am I the only one who feels this way?
