This didn't hit me until much later, but at the beginning of Dragon age 2 Aveline is married to one of the best looking characters in the game.  Then in act 2 she falls for this ugly irish looking guy and can't even talk to him.

My question is, how the hell did she get married the first time?  Was there another champion before Hawke who guided her through it

Theres also the rare occurence of good looking wo/men that date fat or ugly people due to this thing called character. Not being rude, but I think she landed Wesley cause he might be a red Sonja fan.

Have you seen the firepower on Aveline's arms? Ill buy that at the gun show!

Really? Personally, I find Donnic way more attractive than Wesley. Don't tell Aveline I said that.

Also, as far as her being nervous about courting Donnic...I think Hawke actually asks her about that and she says something about how it's been a long time and she is out of practice, plus he is a subordinate which makes the whole thing risky.

Maybe only men find Wesley attractive? Ha. I don't know if I would go so far as calling Wesley ugly though, but yeah...Donnic wins the competition in the looks department. He has that whole Mr. Darcy chops thing going on. But default male Hawke trumps them both, in my opinion.

Considering some of the other men in Kirkwall, I'd say he looks pretty good.

Yeeeah.... The problem is, with Default Hawke getting his own improved textures he's bound to look good when standing next to Low Res Texture NPC Number 4.

Though, maybe the pixelated protagonist hottie that was released with the trailer just set my expectations too high.

Also: The Mr.Default has a beard with edges so sharp they could cut through the toughest of steel, so that kind of put him low on my list of in-game studs.

Cinematic Hawke was definitely hotter. But I'd still rather romance default male Hawke over Anders or Fenris, to be honest (if we are going by looks alone).

So i'm not crazy. This is good to know.

I was beginning to think i had some-how imagined it, and i had no witnesses to confirm that Mr.Default was originally intended to be the Sexiest Default Ever.

Two things:

1. Wesley probably courted Aveline, rather than the other way around. Aveline's a beautiful woman. Why wouldn't someone go after her?

2. People often get together for reasons other than outward attractiveness.

Aveline isn't someone who judges by appearance in any case. Just listen to her.

Awwww. That was adorable.

Not a plothole. Aveline actually indirectly tells you during "the long road" (if you are not your self romanced yet). When she meet Wesley she was a different person, Wesleys death naturally effected her. When she starts to have feelings for Donnic, she knows what it is like to loose the one she loves. So she is much more vulnerable now than when she meet Wesley. This is also the reason why she "guards the guardsmen" and is so protective of Hawke.

Btw most people who have been truely in love can probably submit to this. When pretty people act as monsters we can start to percieve them as less attractive. When an "ugly" person is good, funny and kind (or whatever people fancy os personality traits) you don't see their big nose or busy eyebrows.

This is also part of the reason why we sometimes dislike people simply because of the way they look. If they remind us of someone who behaved a certian way it can be a challenge to remind our selfs that this is a different person.

Donnic was cool, though my male Hawkes would have liked to have dueled him for Aveline's love.

I like how Aveline played the "knight in shining armor", while Donnic was the damsel in distress during Aveline's act 1 quest. Aveline is anything but a princess, and that's what I like about her.
