I looked for a single thread where people posted their replacement morphs for the storyline companions. I couldn't find one, so I'll just start a new thread for any that I do. Feel free to post your own, as well.

Listen, I know there have only been about two million people working on a revised head for Morrigan. I've looked through the ones available in projects on this site, and so far, this one is by far my favorite (his Morrigan reminds me of Megan Fox, for whatever that's worth). That said, I couldn't find one that I really wanted to use, since I didn't want one that was too glamorous, but I did want one that corrected some of the problems I have with the default in-game model, such as the too-thick lower lip and the big ears.

In truth, I am actually fond of the in-game model, but I still wanted to bridge the gap slightly between that model and the character model used in the commercials for Dragon Age: Origins. So here's what I've got.

So in that image you obviously have the default Morrigan, my replacement morph, and then one of the images I was going off of while designing.

In a nutshell, I made the eyes larger and darker, thinned the lips, brought the teeth forward and down, shrunk the ear and moved it up on the head, thickened the eyebrows, flattened the nose a bit, thinned the face and tweaked the jawline to make it a little more wedge shaped.

I couldn't quite get it exactly where I would have liked it, but I'm fairly happy with it.

Morrigan was fairly easy, actually. There may be a better way, but when you are looking at a morph, the very last tab is something like "Unique Shapes", and there is a Morrigan slider there. I began with the base human female face, slid the Morrigan slider all the way to the right, then did a LOT of tweaking from there. It doesn't look like it, but I probably adjusted everything possible.

I'm not totally sure how you would do the other companions. Somebody else here probably knows. I'm sure there's a thread around here somewhere that explains it.

Edit: Oh, by the way, I'll save you some time: Morrigan's hair is "hf_har_mora_0". I don't think that's available with the default filter. If you simply type it in and hit enter, it will load and attach to your morph.

Just make sure the resulting filename is named in the following format:
[race/gender]_genfl_[name].mor

E.g. hf_genfl_morrigan.mor, em_genfl_zevran.mor

Place the file in your override directory.

I found this thread that discusses the facial presets for basing new morphs off of companion characters. I haven't tried it, myself. Only Leliana is mentioned, but I assume it works for the others, as well?

It is possible to use
all available in the ToolSet morphs/texture options. Here is my variant of
younger looking Wynne:

Well, here's another one. This is a reinterpretation of Leliana. My original intent was to attempt to do the Sacred Ashes version, but I wound up butting up against the limitations of the toolset. Instead, I pretty much designed this morph from the ground up, taking some inspiration both from the in-game model as well as the Sacred Ashes model, but doing something fairly distinct from both of them. I hope somebody likes it. The project is here.

Has anybody discovered yet if it's possible to do a direct import of the default companions as a new morph? I know that you can go to the Unique Shapes, for example, and use the slider to get a reasonable Alistair, but it would be so much easier if I could just import Alistair's face with all of the little tweaks already done, so that I could do my own small tweaks off of the base model. Same thing with Sten and Zevran.

thewatcheruatu,
Bryan Derksen posted a project that contains a lot of the core resources. One of the files is a zip of all the core head morphs including all companions and notable NPCs. It is found here:  http://social.bioware.com/project/1331/#details
When you extract it, companions will be in the "global" folder.

I'm having the same problem with Alistair's head and there doesn't seem to be any solutions on any forums.

I was having the same problem until I figured out what I was doing wrong. I imagine those of you who were having companion heads disappear in game were doing the same thing.

When exporting to local in the toolset, there are actually two files created. One is .mrh and one is .mor. You can't simply rename the .mrh to a .mor manually, or else you will just get a missing head in game. This is an easy mistake, since the .mrh file is saved to somewhere easy to find, such as the folder you originally made your morph in. You have to find your .mor file, which the toolset likes to hide away in some obscure folder. After you export, there should be rows of text that show up in your toolset on the bottom. Read carefully until you see .mor in the text. It will tell you where your file was saved.

Go find it, copy the file, and drag it to your override folder. Tada! It should now work.

REMEMBER:
DA: Origins you name files "racegender_genfl_companion.mor"
(ie: hf_genfl_morrigan.mor)

DA: Awakening you name your morph "racegender_gxa000fl_companion.mor"
(ie: ef_gxa000fl_velanna.mor)
