Hmm.. if it's not immediate obvious, the the promotion code might actually be ok... it's possible for it to be a database rollback -- i.e., a bad one where the server basically melted down and they needed to restore it from backup. Depending on the way the program is written, the entire data set could be inconsistent (especially since it's now painfully obvious that the DB table where the EMS data sits on and the storage where chara data is sitting on is likely to be different).Nogthwai wrote...
It only affects PC Players, as far as I'm aware. Promotion does increase SP EMS, the N7 Rank increases normally as well, but sometimes it just seems to store the old characters (with appearance options etc). The bug seems Server side since it doesn't happen instantly and some people had it happen after 12 hours. I was able to play 3-4 Rounds before the "old" characters reappeared in selection screen. There are of course numerous exploits possible with this bug, which I won't mention.Lynx7725 wrote...
That's very odd behaviour. The next thing to logically check is to see if the SP War Material score has increased or not (because that's part of the process, and reporting if it has been impacted can narrow down the buggy area).Nogthwai wrote...

Just curious. For those of you who have encountered the problem, did you promote a chara with the same class as the bugged chara?
e.g., you promoted your Level 20 Human Infilitrator, now your Level 16 Salarian Infiltrator is bugged.
No, it works the other way around. You have X Chars from a class and as soon as you promote the class the "old" X Chars are still around, but are Level 1 but have all their previous skill points allocated.
Seems that the code to clean off the old character is broken or at least only partially working. Not sure if it counts as a promotion, depending on the way the code is structured (i.e., what is done first, cleaning off the old chara or awarding the rewards first).
The odd thing is that if the bad promotion code is client side (i.e., with us), then the question becomes when EA/ BW pushed the code to us. I suspect however, promotion code is server side, which means somebody doing dev work might have broke something while preparing for the current event. (Logically, that there was no reported cases prior to the current event points out that the event prep is likely where the bug was introduced,)
Also, is it a PC only problem, or are consoles affected? As far as I can recall it seems to be PC centric. Which makes the bug introduction even weirder.
And it might not be anything "wrong" per se with the system, could be just load-related. The system works ok under normal load, which has few promotions. Under stress, the system might have seized up and in the process of restarting the server, bad data is introduced. If it recur several time, it may account for the various continual occurance that is posted here. Given that it's PC-centric (for now), that seems certainly pausible, as the load on PC servers are likely significantly higher than for XBL or PSN servers.
If that's the case, then the obvious solution is for EA/ BW to reach into the database to manually patch the data. That can be good or bad depending on the architecture. But it certainly unlikely to be a fast fix.. anyone got their toons sorted out already?
I just personally find it strange that our toon's data may be sitting on an external server and not local, but then again maybe that's not so bad an idea (from an exploitation perspective).

EA helpdesk says.. We can't do anything, just gonna forward this along.
Ctrl-v of some of the chat..
Treta: [/b]I cn only forward the complaint about this to or supervisors.
you: [/b]I see. Are you saying i just have to play with the bug in place? As it gives me an unfair advantage in multiplayer.
Treta: [/b]I can understand your situation.
Treta: [/b]I will forward the information to the supervisor.
you: [/b]If i play with my characters, would it be considered a cheat and get me banned?
Treta: [/b]There would be no such thing.
Treta: [/b]And also please post the issue on forums.
you: [/b]There is already a 8+ page thread on this, which i have posted in
you: [/b]So, are you saying that playing with this bug will not get me banned?
Treta: [/b]No,you will not get banned.

well, we're not sure if these bugged promotions will count toward the weekend eventsliverofamoon wrote...
What are the drawbacks to this? Other than not being able to re-spec? I'm not being a smartass... just curious. I've promoted a bunch of classes a few times now, and havn't had any problems.... so far.

Yeah, the customizations + powers default to what you've chosen earlier, i.e. the characters are more or less frozen, unless you use a reset card. Even if I change the name, it reverts back once I quit MP. I figure if someone skilled all races combinations for a class, it could become quite bad, since he'd no longer be able to respec until he gets lucky.
But in game you actually have an advantage, that much is true.

I hope this glitch doesn't screw up the promotions deal for this weekend. That would suck.

Dominating as a level 1, awww yeahhh.
Don't know if it's been said yet (cba to read 6 pages), but it seems to only happen if you name your character it's original name (the first name you ever named it) after promoting.

If you want to avoid the negative level issue, promote your character classes and then DO NOT play immediately; simply restart the game first. Then you should be able to avoid the negative skill/reset characters as I was able to.
