I liked Vega.
And I really liked his backstory, and how it kinda mirrored the "No reward for your sacrifice, deal with it" theme ME3 had going. HATED the theme itself, just liked that it was overarching, proves that Mac can write in principle, he just needs a much, much, much better editor.
Did anyone like James Vega?

Yeah, he was kinda corny, but I genuinely liked him. I don't get why there was such a backlash about his addition to the roster. After all, we got a ton of new characters added in ME2, and nobody whined about that, right? So why not have new squaddies in 3?
I dont think it had anything to do with him being new, rather it was just fanboys whining, saying he looked boring and looked as if he was stripped right out of Gears of war(which is apparently the devil in these parts) or Jersey shore. Which was stupid because we didnt know a damn thing about the guy. In any case it turns out that he was actually a pretty damn cool character with great VA. I liked him although I didnt use him that often.

A well written character. And I liked him a lot.

He was ok i guess but he didn't really have any cool or important features. He had only one chance to shine because we got last game in trilogy and he blew it in my opinion.

i loved him. it was hilarious to find him in the most unsual places all over the citadel.
i wish he was romanceable though. he would have been a great LI for female shepards. way more than Jacob.

I enjoyed playing with james but the best part is when he got Ashley Drunk

I really liked him because of his easy and uncomplicated attitude. I havnt played ME 1, but i personally found Ashley (and possibly Kaidan) pretty dull and uninteresting. She just had a boring personality to me.

Initially I was all "Oh brilliant. BigLarge McHuge is an emo meathead with some poorly hidden personal vendetta," but eventually I started to like him. Once I started talking with him between missions his character became a little more filled out each time (yay discovery). It was really fun messing him around with the flirting on my F!Shep and by the end of the game I even considered him as a potential romanceable - if he hadn't been so obviously established as my unofficial protege.

Yeah I thought he was ace. If he had been in ME1 he'd be a top favourite among fans I reckon.

Freddy Prince did a good Job as Vega and this is probably his best Work since playing Freddy in Scooby Doo.
Freddy Prince JR did his voice?.........
Wow... While i didnt care for the jersey shore reject Vega, He was voiced very well. I would have rather been able to recurit my ME 2 LI or Grunt.

He's fun to have around. Plus, he's there to show us how an average Earthling looks at Shep and his crew of legend without having had direct involvement in anything they did, but being affected by the fringes of it (the way he lost his squad "for nothing", the bar scene with the toasting, all the fun talks he has with your other teammates).
He fulfills the squad story role that Jacob was intended for, he's the "totally not weird in any way normal guy". Because, frankly, the only other marginally sane person to ever grace Shepard's team was Legion - Jacob is now firmly in derision territory because of the way his story went in ME3, and he wasn't that good at being the straight man in ME2 either.

I realy liked Vega. Granted, I didn't take him on a single mission with me (Garrus and Liara all the way) but I did talk to him after every mission and felt for him at the beginning when we were running from earth. Next to Miranda and Jack he's one of the best human squad mates.

The N7 discussion with him was the only thing I enjoyed about him. Other than that he was incredibly forgettable.

ME3 wasn't the best moment to bring in a brand new squad mate.
If he was there from the beginning it would have been great, sadly he was thrown in as a last minute addition.

I suspect they wanted to make him "the normal guy", like Jacob and Kaidan. We need some of those with all the extreme characters you often find on the Normandy. I think they did quite well.

Yes. Mostly because of Prinze's VA.
He wasn't thrown in the last minute. They needed the "new guy's" perspective, and on top of that, a stable presence given the previous possible deaths of other squad members.

He was an extremely offensive character. Did we really need a Hispanic stereotype? All that was missing was the bean and cheese.
I really hope Bioware did it unintentionally. I really, really hope.
If you're going to do a minority, try portraying them positively rather than as a brute.

In ME1, it was Kaidan.
In ME2, it was Jacob.
In ME3, it's now James.
I guess people around here don't like sidekicks.

I was initially disappointed his role wasn't being taken by an ME1 or ME2 character, but I iked him fine. His interactions with other crew members were amusing.
