Personally, I hate how he takes the places of other possible squadmates from ME1/ME2.

Agreed. I hate how EDI and James do that. Javik I can do with, he's prothean and fits into the whole ''final battle against the reapers'' - plot.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't actually dislike either of them, but they took spots away from more deserving characters.

I like both James and EDI as characters, but i dont like having them as squadmates.

EDI takes the roll of an engineer/hacker, for which we already have Tali. I find her highly redundant as a squadmate. Should have kept her in the ki...erm, on the ship.

And James takes the roll of the Krogan squadmate from ME1/2, for which Grunt would have been the best choice. Now i like the character James, aswell as his abilities. But when i saw our little Grunty headbutting his way through some Rachni i wanted him back on my squad ASAP.

I thought I would have him, and I really didn't like him at the beginning. But he has some very good "party banter" with the rest of the squad which at the very least make him fun to look for.

That's more than I can say about Ashley or Kaidan.

The human squadmates are my least favorites, but Vega is the best.

He's like Jacob 2.0 - he does things better, faster and with style. AND at least he's funny. :)

I was surprised by how much I DID like him. I was so ready not to. Men in BioWare games tend to be "nice" and I like that James is more of a renegade character, for sure. I like all the hispanic touches, and the nickname thing was endearing to me. The nicknames were never as cleaver as Shale's from 'Dragon Age: Origins', but for me, personally, it reminded me of somebody I knew IRL who did the same, and it hit me just right.
It kind of angers me how much flirting they put in the game between him & femShep when it can't go anywhere, however. So I suppose they made him a tease. Hopefully this just means they have something else planned for him.
Also, compairing him to Jacob is a disservice to James, really.

I like anyone who has the ' I will rename you' attitude. His attitude towards fighting could use some work and he is a bit big for his big boots but he is alright.

Request for future games; human squad members that aren't body builders or glamour models. IOW, we need different body models.

With such impressing work at making faces (not counting the ridiculously monotone hairstyles), they should be able to make some more varied bodies. Vega, Benezia, Samara/Morinth and Miranda are the only people with different bodies..

Loved Vega. As prior-service myself I thought he was exceptionally well written, I imagine much of his character is lost on civilians.

I'm a civilian, would love you to elaborate on why you think that (genuine curiosity), i will read any wall of text on that! :D

As of right now i think he was OK, but i never realy played with him, i stick to my old friends garrus and liara.
