Glitched? Only single shots fired from any kind of burst-firing weapons?

Hello my lovely community, just a quick question, won't take too much of your precious time. But I think this is a very serious issue which Bioware/EA has to look into.

I realized that whenever I have my teammates to sport BURST-FIRING weapons such as the Vindicator, the Argus, and the N7 Valkyrie rifles, the teammates would come out from cover, pop a SINGLE SHOT (completely ignoring the weapons' firing mode) then go back behind cover.

Same problem would persist even when I have my teammates standing in open, they would still only fire the BURST-FIRING weapons in very slow Semi-Auto mode. Such rate of fire is comparable to the heavy-hitting sniper rifles, except the damage is far lower, and the weapons aren't used as they intended to be.

I don't know if I am the only one expericing such issue, but this is certainly a great hindrance to a satisfying experience. However, if I am not alone here then we should raise attension to this issue and demand a solution to this problem.

Thanks for your time!!

I've noted that too with the N7 Valkyrie...
With the Mattock I'm not too fussed... but it is very annoying when it happens...

It is indeed a problem. I looked into the Coalesced.bin file and indeed squadmates are instructed to fire those weapon in 'singe shots'.

Since we are not allowed to modify the Coalesced.bin file, they only thing I can suggest is just to have them using the Revenant (squadmate much better using it as they negate weight and recoil), Phaeston, particle rifle, etc.

LOL, that's pretty bad. What's the point of burst fire when the game is programmed to fire single shots only (for squadmates). Yet another sign the game has been rushed :(

Yeah, it would be helpful to hear what we - the community - can and cannot do with mods. I can understand why they won't allow modding the MP, but I can see no harm in modding SP. In fact, I will mod the game myself sooner rather than later to keep SP interesting. I will replace the modded coalesced file with the original one when going online for some MP.

I guess it is for balance reasons. Let's say the Argus, if fired by Shep, the 2nd and 3rd shot will jump up like crazy (even with a recoil mod) and miss unless at short range. If you mod it so that teammates fire in 3-6 round bursts, all those rounds would be pin-point accurate. In addition, teammates scores an absurd amount of headshots.

Actually, I've also just discovered this tread on BSN:

Modding is allowed as long as you don't touch the multiplayer. But if origin detects you modding single player files you might also get banned.....So, It is really not very clear on it.

A very good point. However,  I still believe there are better ways to balance the game than this sloppy solution.
Not to mention that would make your squadmates look downright silly. I would like them to tweak the damage multiplier, and get to AIs to use the weapons properly. Without breaking the game off course.

Cheers!

I've actually looked into the coalesced.bin file in detail:

Your squadmate has a weapon damage multiplier of 0.3. This, on paper, says your squadmates only does 30% the damage advertised on a weapon, does that makes them useless? Not quite:

If you look into more detail Garru's passive, if you fully upgrade his passive and choose all the weapon damage enhancement, he gets a 100% weapon damage boost. In addition,  he also has an option which opens him to a 60% extra sniper rifle damage.  Then, on top of that, if you are a soldier, you can choose to Buff your squadmate's weapon damage by another 20%.     Then, garrus has an optional appearance that grants him another 25% weapon damage bonus.

So if we add all these together, garrus will receive a whooping 205% damage bonus to his base weapon damage. So, in the end, his sniper rifle damage if you pick all these upgrades, is 0.3 * (1 + 2.05) = 91.5% of the weapon base damage. This is almost as good as Shepard, considering an AI gets a load of headshots (than me, anyway).

The next in Line is Ashley, she only gets a 75% passive bonus, and a 60% assault rifle damage boost. Her assault rifle (if you pick all the damage boost options) would be 0.3* (1 + 1.8) = 84% of the weapon base damage.

The 'power oriented' squadmates such as EDI and Liara will not get these weapon bonnuses so their weapons will do puny damage. However, they do get massive bonuses to their power damage/recharge. If you pick all the tech power damage passive for EDI her tech powers will actually end up being more powerful than Sheps (A overload + incinerate combo would actually kill a Phantom on insanity if you pick all the power damage upgrades). Where Liara can have absurdly quick reload instant singularities.

Then we have James who not only does puny weapon damage and has no tech/biotic power to speak of (LOL). But if you pick all the +shield/hp upgrades then he can take a ton of punishment before he falls.

Finally, I believe MP and SP uses the same coalesced.bin file so I highly recommend against modifying that file, especially the weapon parameters.
