Bioware's misstep with Tali's face has far larger consequences.

care to link to the poll?

also I dont really like that one because for whatever reason it just makes her look...evil xD

I can't recall exact topic or poll name, tried to find it with keywords: "tali's face", "poll face", "favourite tali", etc, but failed miserably.

I do remember it I was one of the ones that voted for the face I attached in one of my previous posts here. But I think it has fallen deep within all the other older threads now.

Just looking at my post there, I should add I didn't want it to sound rude if that's what it came across as, but this is the internet and if you were offended then I am sorry.

But thanks for understanding my point, but to me those cheeks look to be covered in dead skin flakes, the areas around her mouth are purple which look very similar to the texture of bruises. Personally I was on the fence regarding her face, a part of me wanted to see it, but another part just wanted to leave it up to my imagination.

dont worry lol I dont think you are coming off as rude at all. We all have a personal preference for what we want Tali to look like. I dont necessarily want Tali to look exactly like the fan art I posted, but its the closest I can find to what I would like.

also, I think I might actually prefer for Tali's face to stay a mystery over...this. I wouldnt have minded the picture if nobody told me that it was just a slightly altered photograph. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

But at this point I think I would rather have just waited for them to put the time into it in a later game or DLC or something, rather than have them rush it like they did.

at least the picture itself is kind of blurry and ambiguous. Leaves a bit of room for improvement when it comes to making an animated version of her face.

Edit: I dont think I would be able to stand if Bioware never showed her face at all though XP im too much of a romantic for that.

It would have been better to not show her face at all <snip> That's the beauty of her appearance I think.

My thoughts exactly.

Liara's face model and voice actor are not the same, if I recall correctly.

Besides, it's not like Tali's face comes from some unknown girl from the internet. Hammasa Kohistani was Miss England 2005 (the first Muslim to hold that title). She is damn beautiful. And it fits the "Ayran" vibe I get from the Quarians (Roma people and Southwest Asians).

My only real gripe is that they didn't do a 3-D rendering of the face in the portrait in the game. It would have been nice if all the fans got to see Tali without her mask.

You are correct Liara T'Soni is voiced by Ali Hillis and her face is modelled after actress Jillian Murray.

Using another girl's picture didn't bother me.

What bothered me was  what you said... no rendering and Tali with long hair.  Who in the world would have long hair in a 24hr hazmet suit?  It's not like their helmet leave a lot of room for hair to be put in

It's kind of like the ending...you are about to reveal something that's be hidden from the past 2 series...put some thought and care into it.

Grunt mentions that a Quarian takes effort to stab, as you have to twist the knife through their plates first.

I recall Grunt mentioning Turians and not Quarians...

He mentions both.

Why is the length of her hair an issue? Seriously guys? lol
last time I checked, hair is very flexible.

Modeling, animating, voice recording for Diane Allers.

Not modeling one of the most recognized characters in RPGs since 2007.

SURE SOUNDS LIKE 2012 GAME INDUSTRY IN HERE TO ME.

Wow it looks like the hand was fixed in the in game photo in that pole. It looks a lot better than what they have in the game. Now all they need to do is switch out that sweater for her suit and it ALMOST looks like effort was put into it lol

I'm surprised they rushed to put a picture at all. It almost seemed like a malicious intern made an unnoticed slip. Really, could have release a Tali DLC later, or add the picture with a smaller update. Act according to fan response. No reason to rush. Shortsighted. Foolish.

If some **** hadn't ruined it for everyone and let it be known it was a photoshop, would you give a damn. I think it was done really well and handled perfectly.

Some **** made the image in the first place. A hack job unworthy of the character or the franchise.

Tali's Stock Photo seems like just another proof, that Biowares intention was to be in time with the release date.

So all of the Talimancers out there (including me) now know what is finally under the mask of everyone's favourite Quarian.

Long story short you don't actually see it on her, you see it on a photo of  her. And its a photoshopped stock image.

Now I'm sure that they would have had the appearance of the Quarians nailed down early on in the franchise, but that isn't what this is about.

Specifically unveiling Tali's face also unveiled the Quarian people's mystique. I mean she is the literal face of the Quarian people.

The problem with that is that due to an unsatisfying and lazy job on handling Tali's face, they've accidentally created a problem with the other Quarians as well.

In actual fact I think it completely countermands the descriptions of Quarians by others as well.

Grunt mentions that a Quarian takes effort to stab, as you have to twist the knife through their plates first.

Because of their suits.

Javik says that even back then Quarians were regarded as very attractive, possibly more so then the Asari.

Also doesn't make sense once you look at Tali herself.

behind her visor, she has glowing eyes, might be because of the visor but we don't know. She also has some very sharp features to her. And doesn't appear to have long hair either.

Sorry I'm just saying that someone missed up bigtime at Bioware. They better not the second time.

Someone mentioned this on the first page and this was my thoughts exactly: "What if Tali was just trolling Shepard - giving him a generic photo?"

I am only half kidding. Also, I think "lots of speculation" is obligatory at this juncture.

I personally do not think it such a big deal. Sure using stock photo is lazy and disrespectful to fans, but consequences are not that big. It's pretty common to alter character's look between different games in a series, to the point of completely changing it. So if they ever make another game with Tali they can pretend this mess never happened.

I was fine with Tali's picture. The only real issue with it is the hand, which should have had the woman's middle finger shopped out but ring finger left in to give the correct separation. Quarians were already known from before ME3 to look similar to humans. I just tend to think the reason she's not in her suit is because she's actually on a Quarian ship, possibly in a clean room. The background is probably some sort of nature projection, cause just a sterile grey metal background wouldn't be as interesting.

And all the people having issues with her having long hair? The hair should be no bother to her. Her helmet is nothing like any current helmets. The whole suit actively maintains everything about her, including her hair. I would imagine comfort is one of the things the suit is designed for, since she can almost never leave it. Why would people think that a race of people who intentionally wear a sort of head scarf that resembles hair, would not actually have hair?

They should have just modeled her face after Sroka's like they did for the voice actors of other characters, but I think people were more interested in what Quarians looked like in general, not necessarily Tali. So, Bioware does deliver on this even though it's a photoshopped stock photo.

Honestly, this is such a minor issue compared to the ending of the game which is everything in my book.

It's amazing, isn't it?
They design an entire (and important) race within this vast universe by shopping up a stock image in a 5-minute job. Damn it, Jacks tattoos got more attention than that...

And more attractive than the Asari? It's a pretty girl in that image, no doubt, but not even close to Asari league. Especially for the other Alien races.
Can't remember the human girls to be all the rage in the games...

While playing ME1 I was under the impression that Quarians needed their suits when they left the flotilla. Makes sense that their ships would filter the air according to their biological needs, and the suits would only be necessary outside of this environment.

When Shepard and squad boarded the flotilla for Tali's trial I expected a big reveal, and was shocked to see all the Quarians wearing suits. It was then I learned that Quarians need their suits because their immune systems are symbiotic with Rannoch vegetation, and can't be removed.

When Tali and Shepard stood on Rannoch and she removed her mask to gaze over the landscape, I knew that would be the moment. The camera would pan around and give us a clear view of her overjoyed expression as she looked over a home-world her people haven't set foot on for three hundred years... Or not.

Since I didn't romance Tali I didn't learn about the photoshopped stock-photo until a week later when posts began appearing on the forums. Bioware had their opportunity for a super-sized emotional high and didn't capitalize. I'll always wonder why.
