Bioware's misstep with Tali's face has far larger consequences.

So all of the Talimancers out there (including me) now know what is finally under the mask of everyone's favourite Quarian.
Long story short you don't actually see it on her, you see it on a photo of her. And its a photoshopped stock image.
Now I'm sure that they would have had the appearance of the Quarians nailed down early on in the franchise, but that isn't what this is about.
Specifically unveiling Tali's face also unveiled the Quarian people's mystique. I mean she is the literal face of the Quarian people.
The problem with that is that due to an unsatisfying and lazy job on handling Tali's face, they've accidentally created a problem with the other Quarians as well.
In actual fact I think it completely countermands the descriptions of Quarians by others as well.
Grunt mentions that a Quarian takes effort to stab, as you have to twist the knife through their plates first.
Javik says that even back then Quarians were regarded as very attractive, possibly more so then the Asari.
Also doesn't make sense once you look at Tali herself.
behind her visor, she has glowing eyes, might be because of the visor but we don't know. She also has some very sharp features to her. And doesn't appear to have long hair either.
Sorry I'm just saying that someone missed up bigtime at Bioware. They better not the second time.
Meh, I couldn't care less about the stock image.
To me, the Quarians will always be the mysterious masked race.

So, this is a twofold insult:
1. Lazy fanservice adding a human beauty pageant contestant picture rather than spending any time trying to differentiate them at least a little bit (which is all the more bizarre given the concept art from “The Art of Mass Effect Universe”); and
2. The absolute abandonment of craftmanship by just grabbing some vaguely ethnic-looking stock photo and slapping it there with a…not fantastically photoshopped hand.
(3. When did Tali even have the opportunity to take that photo? She's lived on ships all her life, except later Rannoch - and they could have just done the reveal there. Ah, well, she probably just photoshopped herself a background.)
Edit: you can see the concept art doing an image search for “art of mass effect universe quarian”. I don't want to link, since they're probably…unofficial scans.
Edit2: I'll just hold the 4th version as my canon, combined with the perfectly captured character in that one fan picture of a shyly smiling Tali with just the visor removed.

And lastly... if that picture was taken on Rannoch... how did she de-helmet-ify her hair so quickly before heading back?

With the current endings. Any ME game is likely to be a prequel, so any Quarians will still be masked completely. BW has missed their chance.

Bioware missed the most obvious opportunity to show us Tali's face, when she takes of her mask on Rannoch. They could have made a very good moment awesome with this, but they didn't.
I'm sure that's what they originally were planning, however due to time constraints they couldn't. This is reinforced by the fact she takes off her helmet in both scenarios.
EDIT: What I wouldn't give to see that in-game though...

also wasnt it taken on Rannoch? Or do you get the picture before Rannoch?
Funny you mock his question.
When Shepard was killing a reaper, she popped to Rannoch's local GAP bought a shawl and took a picture, is it?
Taken in a natural environment, clearly not wearing a suit at all and yet in 2 she admits they rarely take them off even on ships, that alone can make them ill.
The fact it's a photoshop isn't bad in itself, its bad because no thought has gone into it at all. The Image at best should have been one of many quickly knocked out designs which they select the best from and put more work into them, repeating til they have one left and then make a proper design out of it. Doing this would get you a failing grade in a course and sure as hell shouldn't pass in a paying job.

Grunt never said nothin' about no plates. You should watch the quotes again. All he said was "Quarians, not so much" (in response to how soft the other races were). Nothing about plates, scales or any such thing.
She seems to have glowing eyes in her photo too, so I don't know what the big deal is.
In ME2, there are a few Quarians that you can get a really good look at through their mask. It's all still shadows still, but more contours of their face is revealed. You can clearly see that even then, they had a very human-like profile, including the nose and jawline.
So could BioWare have gone in a more alien-like appearance? Yes, but with everything we know about the Quarians in canon, they could have easily gone with a more human-like appearance too, which is what they did.

Ok, if they were serious about it, I can accept it. Sure its not ideal but I can live with that. But, then we get this photo. The photo itself was fine, but it doesn't look like it took any more than 5 minutes worth of Photoshop to make it. I think it would have been more respectful to Tali fans if they had either; stuck to their guns and not revealed her at all or actually put the effort in to a full reveal. The sort of half-assed way it was done was just cheap fan service. It felt as though they just didn't take what the fans wanted seriously. Meaning, they didn't consider the feedback important enough to even flat out disagree with it. Instead it feels like it was a token gesture that took maybe a half an hour to decide and implement just to quiet the fans.
Its nit-picky, yes, but if "artistic integrity" was so important then Tali fans deserved it to be applied one way or the other here. Granted I wouldn't have wanted them to halt development for a little fan service, but knowing they cared enough to consider the question seriously would have been more resepectful IMO. And even if they wanted a reveal but didn't because timing wouldn't allow them to do it properly would have showed a bit more respect too.

The part I don't understand is if they were going to use a human picture why they didn't just use Ash Sroka? All other female love interest's face are base off of their voice actor's looks
I actually agree with this, mostly because Ash is really cute.
I think this is too ambivilent an issue. Show the picture, some people are upset. Show her talking, some people are upset. Never show her at all, some people are upset. I don't think the picture really ruined anything and maybe showing her face in rendering would have been extremely difficult.... I will say that I actually like the subtlety of just a picture. If it was a stock photo that was photoshopped, I still liked the angle, lighting and style of the photo itself, so personally, I was okay with it.

well they'll just have to leave it the way it is then.
i'm sorry, but being vocal & angry about something doesn't mean it should be changed.
you can't assume everybody will go with it.
put it this way, i'd be very freaking unhappy if they released an updated & totally different tali face (they won't) because of some poll on this forum.

I'm certainly not expecting them to change it, and I'll agree that those upset about it are in the minority. I'm just surprised at the lack of effort that was put into revealing one of their main characters when compared to rest, and even when compared to new characters, such as Allers.
