IF DAO was "real life" and you could only die ONCE...how far would you have gotten in the game?

It sounds like a silly question.  But, if you were to pretend that you were the character and the death of your party meant end of the game...period.  How long would have that lasted?  For me, I think it would have been 2nd or 3rd level...at least a few hours or so into the game.

I thought about this because whenever I redo a battle, I many times ponder that if I had a real life situation and taken troops into battle with those initial tactics...there is no "do-over"...no F9 key in real life.  So, if you're really hard core, you would really want to evaluate the situation in such a way that you conduct your first battle like your very last one (which was successful).

Again, sounds silly...and yes the game is fantasy but every time you hit the F9 key...you're cheating in some small way.

My first playthrough I woulda been toast on the first ogre. Bloody thing grabbed my mage right of the bat and beat the crap ut of him before I knew that was happening.

I wouldn't have made it out of castle Cousland. :P
(It took me a second playthrough to get the achievement for PC not falling during the origin)

If we're talking about death of the entire party, I'm not quite sure if it was the first but there definetely was a wipe at the first floor of the tower of Ishal (grease trap + archers behind unbreakable barricades + emissary). The Ogre battle went relatively smoothly in comparison.

I would've died fighting a pack of wolves while traveling from Lothering to somewhere else.

I agree, I have no idea why but my first playthrough I must have died to the ogre at least 5-6 times, now it's a one shot everytime. Sigh.

Somehow my party managed to destroy the Ogre but some times later in Lothering I was beaten to death by an angry mob.

I think the first time my PC fell was against the Ogre, only the unnamed Circle mage was around when it finally died.

I would've died at the bottom of the ramp in the Cousland castle. I was winning until a second wave of Howe's men showed up out of nowhere.

Well...

First I would have pooped my own pants when I found out my Couslands were under attack.  Then, through sheer flailing, cowering and sneaking I would have eventually made it to the pantry, where I would have sobbed to my parents who would no doubt be ashamed of me (I mean I DID poop my pants).

On the way to Ostagar I would have tripped over something, landed on a rusted piece of metal and gotten blood poisoning which I would hope would take me before I had to face any scary Darkspawn, but I would just KNOW that it would take...FOREVER..

At Ostagar, since I'm prone to daydreaming, I likely would have wandered, following a squirrel or something, right into the middle of a couple of soldiers sparring each other.  Great.  Now my ear has been sliced off.  It hurst real bad until one of the mages heals it, also inadvertantly healing my stupid blood poisoning.

Then during the battle I would have likely been by a giant fireball three steps into my quest to the tower, leaving me a gnarled charred corpse on the ground.

...my journey ends.

OH!  Oh you meant me AS MY PC.  Not me as ME.  Right...

Uhh....ogre.

If it were literally me, I'm pretty sure I would have got my ass handed to me in the first Proving fight.

In Lothering too caught between the Spiders and the thieves. I got distracted five second while trying to do some fancy spell work with Morrigan and ... dead. Its not that bad though really.

If it was really me though... like I first understood your question? I would never have made it out of Cousland castle. Probably empaled on my own sword as I tripped over my dog really.

I think it would have been Lothering or the Ogre at the tower.

The Kacari Wilds... past the hanging bodies, crossing the little bridge near the place you find the Chasind trail chache.. I went running after the Emmisary and got drilled in a nice array of triangular bow and arrow fire.

The Ogre in Ostagar.

It's one of only two fights so far in the game I've found genuinely challenging, but that fight was hard.

I wonder if it would be easier if I weren't playing a mage. The only significant damage I could really do to it was with the Walking Bomb DoT, and that drew way too much aggro, so my mage always died first.

The shade camp in the Dalish lands since I have crap willpower stat. But if that's only "sleeping" then I'd probably survive that. I've not died yet on a normal playthrough and since I've saved that for last I'll assume I get through the entire game.

Although, to be fair I am a beefed up tank with super armour. I'm sure if I was a little less armoured and didn't have Wynne spamming heals I'd be dead before long...

Ditto.  Coming from FPS, bit of a learning curve regarding the combat and general style of play.  A lot of "ahhh, so that's....."  Image IPB

Seeing as how I have the strength of an anorexic midget and the speed of a sloth, my strategy involves lightly jogging towards my enemies and falling onto their weapons in order to disarm them.

Edit: Oops, you mean me as the PC? Errr how on earth are we supposed to know that? I guess it would be a matter of probability, just how many darkspawn is it possible for four men to take. Is anyone else confused by this question? If I were my PC, surely I wouldn't be me.

Well, death seems like a reward, knowing what the grey wardens have to go through.
