So, who exactly wanted multiplayer anyways?

I like the multiplayer.

I must confess I would've returned the game if it didn't have MP. I've no intent to play SP again.

The problem with multiplayer is, it excludes parts of the original audience.

I'm sure I'm not the only one not the least bit attracted by shooting something up in the virtual company of people I don't even know. Maybe it's an age thing, but being in my late 40ies I don't feel the need to prove myself at some online shooting range.

I'm 42 and  I completely agree. My multiplayer days (quake 2, America's Army) are behind me and I have no desire to relive them.

Lets complain when a developer gives us extra stuff. That sounds mature.

Multiplayer is fun.

Could it be, that's because it's at the cost of other stuff?

The ressources and money invested would have been put to better use in further developing single player.

It's not like they had to create a whole new engine which would have taken up lots of time.

Besides, OP didn't say that.  All he said was "WHO THE HELL WANTED THIS?!?!"  I know enough about the ME fanbase that most didn't want multiplayer in the first place.

Thing is, we're going for the 12-year-old market here:whistle:

Yeah, that's a problem. And that's why I always use to pick my own multiplayer experiences very carefully. Nothing against 12-year olds, but I find it rather tiresome to socialise with them.

You guys are so pompous. I guess if they were aiming for 12 year olds then the  first 2 ME were aiming at loner, socially awkward losers.

Well, you could also say at people having friends and not the social networking substitute.

Im happy it has co op frankely its one of the things missing from mass effect 2 and 1, online co op makes every game better espescially if you know the people your playing with, i was hoping it would be the single player game, but with drop in drop out co op *aka friends pop round, someone can play as one of your current picked squad members, then if he leaves the AI takes control again* but this isnt to bad.

Now deathmatch? no thanks.

Its not that anyone person wanted it, its that Bioware always wanted to include it since ME1. But they didn't know how to implement it. Me Personally I never really wanted it but when I kept on hearing rumors I wondered what multiplayer would be like it if this turned out to be true.

I didn't want multiplayer, but I actually really like it. I mean, it's fun in that pointless, repetitive way of letting me kill something when I feel like it.

Yeah, yeah, and who asked for thermal packs? The devs don't have to pass anything they change in a new title by you.

MP is boring and repetitive, but I don't play multi in general. It's just not for me.

I would prefer they spent the resources on some exploration missions instead (like Mako missions in ME1), but... MP means money from microtransactions! That's the main reason it exists, I think.

SP is boring and repetitive as well... -.-

More to the point though...

Bioware presumably wanted to experiment with and learn about doing multiplayer or coop. Offcourse in addition to any money they could make off of it.

Personally and for ME I'd have preferred all effort to go into the singleplayer campaign.

Second I'd have preferred to have the coop weaved into the campaign (someone jumps in as eg. Garrus on a mission).

I didn't get either but I was/am positively surpriced by the multiplayer as it is. Having great fun with it allthough it does need some polish.

Or so they say. Starting at the exact same moment the EA general first mentioned the possibility in an interview.

MP is pretty good, but repetitive. It's not as fleshed out as it could be.

And that could be true also. But from being around since ME1 I thought they were actually going to come out with a Multiplayer DLC when they mentioned something about a fight club. Instead I think the idea was scraped, recycled, and replaced by Pinnicle station.

I boycott MP. EA was sending email yesterday asking them to get on Galaxy at War. I tried once and I dont bother anymore. And all my endings have been bad ending cause of the way the SP is dependent on MP play.

If you were smart you would have realized I was using one stereotype to attack another.

I liked the first 2 ME games so I would be calling myself a loner, socially awkward loser.

But I guess nerd rage really does exist as it's the only thing that could be clouding your perception.

MP is fun if you play with your friends, and it's cool to play as something besides a human. Would I have given it up to fix the problems with the single-player game? YES. But I don't know what the multiplayer team could have contributed to fix the problems with the single-player game, those problems started and ended at the writing table.

Yet they are the ones stereotyping.

Behind all the beautiful words of "capturing a larger audience" or the COD crowd, do you think for a minute, they have the intelligent, mature peoples person in mind?

The streamlining express tells a different tale. A quite insulting tale actually, since it openly says "we make it easy for people having some difficulties writing their own name".

Well, there was a Mass Effect multiplayer FPS in the works in 2010, but EA figured it'd be better to add multiplayer to ME3.

I have nothing against the multiplayer. Sure, if removing the multiplayer would give 10+ hours to the SP campaign, I might be interrested.

My perception is hardly clouded. I just love stereotypes.:)
