EA most likely, though I can see where it sounded like a good idea at the beginning. Just tried it myself, and must admit that it didn't hold my attention for long. Without a story arc to tie it all together (which is what Mass Effect is all about), its just a bunch of shooting. If I wanted that I'd load up Gears of War.

lululul thats how i felt when i played it on demo for the first time i was like OH GEARS OF WAR ala mass effect   ^_^ ;)

same here, Gears of war does it better than Mass Effect will ever do it

What I'm wondering is that why they (Bioware) even picked Gears of War as their guiding star.

Mass Effect 1 plays a lot like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter or Army of Two. Both are much more open-ended, slow paced, squad oriented and "realistic" than Gears of War is.

Did someone just look at the sales numbers? "Yeah GRAW is pretty popular but damn look at those Gears numbers!"

Now I could be coming down with Alzheimer's, but I have no recollection of people being up in arms demanding an online component be added to the Mass Effect series after the 2nd installment came out. There were some mutterings of people wanting a co-op mode for the story or some such, but this horde mode unlock centric "Operation Arbitrary!" nonsense?

Who the hell wanted this? It's not a *bad* game to play for an hour, but it's nothing anyone who played Mass Effect gives much of a **** about. Here's my theory: EA shoehorned this bull**** in. There's nobody besides the biggest loudest and most obnoxious game company in the world who could look at the feedback from ME1/2 and think:

"So you like personalized story and characterization huh? That's nice. We like charging as much as possible for as little content as possible. Multiplayer is *AWESOME* for that, so that's what we're gonna sell you. Enjoy!"

Honest to god guys, how are we currently at a point in history in which "INTENSE GAMEPLAY!" and promotional weekend weapon unlocks are the things being advertised about a Mass Effect title? This isn't COD in space guys, stop trying to make it into such...

There are over 16,000 players at rank 100 and higher just on the PS3 version alone wtf do you know about people giving a "****" about it you moron.

Nicely said - and one of the reasons why I personally am just a tiny bit sceptical about the quality of multiplayer fans.

Keep up the good work, makes your cause all the more believable.

Multiplayer was handled by a different team (internally - ie: there's a gamedesign team, concept team, etc etc. There would be a small team designated to handle multiplayer), and had a budget tacked on for it. If they didnt do multiplayer, then that budget and that team would not exist, and the schedule would be adjusted.

so even if they didnt have multiplayer, you would STILL have the same crappy ending.

I think MP is great. The combat system is fun as it is, so sometimes it's nice to have an option to focus solely on that side of the game, with other people. I doubt it really affected SP very much, and it adds to the game's longevity nicely 'cause I don't like replaying games too soon after 1st playthrough.

I admit I was really wrong about the MP.  I wanted it be NOWHERE near the SP.  I was really worried that dev on MP would take away from SP.  But the MP is enjoyable.  I love getting to play as a Drell Adept or Turian Sentinel(haven't gotten a Krogan yet through...)

I did. Not MP specifically, but I even made a topic when ME2 was released, hoping for something similar to Pinnacle station where you could repeatedly fight enemies, trying out different enemies and classes without having to restart games/levels. The MP in ME3 is that turned to 11, so I'm pretty satisfied. Other than the ending and the hit-and-miss graphics, there's not much about ME3 that really bothers me, so I don't think anything was "taken away" from ME3 due to MP.

MP is the only reason I'm still playing ME while waiting for ending-related news. It can become preety intense and it's fun. I just love ME3's battle system, it's superb.

There were absolutely people on here that said they'd like to see multiplayer, and threads where they talked about how it might work and what they'd like to see. Being able to play as a species other than human was an idea that was often kicked around. I wasn't one of these people.

Now that it exists, though, I don't mind it. It's pretty fun and a good way to sneak in some killin' when I'm in a phase where I have to run around doing fetch quests in the SP.

I don't care about MP in ME3, the same I didn't care for MP in Bioshock 2, two games originally single player only. If they add that option for whoever likes it it's ok, but what it's *really annoying* is that they force you to use it to achieve the 4,000 or more EMS in the *single player* campaign.

I did not want multiplayer and would still gladly trade it for the neutral dialogue options back.

Having said that, it's actually alot of fun.
