When Bioware decided that 11 squadmates was too many and that they were reducing the number for ME3 so they could focus more on them individually, what made them think adding James Vega was a good idea?
This lunkhead must be the most the most shallow, sterotypical and empty headed character of the entire series. His survivor's guilt backstory is a dud, the 'trying-so-hard-to-be-Hispanic-by-saying-Loco-a-dozen-times-daily' attitude is immediatly tiresome, and his sparring match with Shepard is embarrisingly bad (tho the reinactment Angry Joe does in his review is hillarious). He manages to make Jacob look interesting!
What really irks me when Bioware was debating who was worthy for the very limited seating as a permanant squadmate in what they claimed was "the best game we have every made" they went through the list:
Wrex?.... no. Thane?......no. Mordin?....No. Leigon?......no. Samara?....no. Vega?....yes.
Why?
And now, Vega gets his own anime
http://kotaku.com/58...eased-this-fall
Why?
Does anyone actually like this guy?
Does anyone actually like Vega? Honestly?

No, I didn't like him at all. Was just a bad stereotype imo.

Yup. I like Vega, and tbh I like him more than Garrus.

I liked Vega. Quite a bro. Bring him along to a lot of missions.

At first I didn't really like him.
But during my 2nd play through, I used him ALOT, and his dialogue is awesome.
He is now one of my favorite characters.
Wish they had introduced him earlier.
James: "Rachii?! What the.... You have like the opposite of a horse shoe up your ass!"

Better character than Kaidan/Jacob. Not that I think they are particularly bad either.

I really liked him. Not everyone in the galaxy is going to have an "interesting" backstory. Vega reminds me of some of my military friends. It makes sense that Shepard will have at least one "typical" jarhead on his crew.

I liked him, I was disppointed he wasn't romanceable after all the flirting he did. But do I like him enough to watch an anime of him...not really, unless it got lots of brilliant reviews.

He seems a little unnecessary but I don't dislike him.

they inserted Vega instead of those characters because for many people those characters could be dead, they needed to insert a squadmate that would not be dead on anyone's game.
and personally I like Vega, not enough to take him with me on missions, but i do like him

I actually think Vega is one of the things they got right. He was a guy who aspires to be like Sheperd, yet lacks the life experience to do so effectively. And they manage to develop his character without really pushing others out of the way.

I fraking loved that guy. Wish he was a romance option.

Yes! I like Vega! He was fun to have around, had a lot of good lines and quips, made going down to the armoury to see him and Steve a whole lot of fun, and was a good contrast to the VS. I don't like him as much as my boyfriend does, though. It's getting kind of awkward.

Did I like him? Sure he was alright. Not very strikingly great character but I didn't hate him like I thought I would.
The reason I would hate him is simple: He takes up space as a squad member I'd rather have given to ME2 Squadmates (For example ME2 love interests)

Liked it when he rammed "Edi" with the shuttle! That was awesome! Then he didn't do that much really.

I wasn't crazy about him but then he crashed the shuttle almost killing Shepard and the entire squad after shouting that he "got this" and I loled hard.

I'm genuinally surprised by how many people appear to like him, this seems to be the best reasoning so far.

I didn't think I would, let alone because he's voiced by Freddie and I can never forgive him for Wing Commander...but he did grow on me, and Freddie did a decent job.

He was a decent character. Not as deep as someone like Garrus or Tali, but for someone who came in right at the end his backstory is decent enough.
Plus, I've liked the odd word of another language thrown in after playing Assassin's Creed.

I like him. I see why bioware added him. It makes sense to me. Shepard was under lockdown, this officer, however junior was his babysitter. I never took him out with me except for a few occasions because his skill set didnt work as well with my Shepard, but I really liked him as a character. Not overly complicated for a new character.
