I sort of liked Vega. I planned to use him more as a squadmate during 2nd playthrough. Too bad no 2nd playthrough for me unless they do something with that ending.
Does anyone actually like Vega? Honestly?

I liked having a squad mate with grenades if nothing else
Other than that, I was more or less indifferent to him. Didn't hate him, didn't love him.
Garrus was and is my main brother in arms!

James is awesome! Love him!
Wish he could have been around since the first. He has great banter, and I don't think he's boring at all. I take him everywhere. He's a good guy to have at your back.

I liked him, I am Lola after all LOL. I think they did a good job creating a young marine fresh in his career and trying to find his place in the big scheme of things.

Do i like Vega? Yes, wasnt expecting to, but i dont mind him, actually would take him for a ride with all that teasing he gave my Shepard. Well, one of my Shepards would XD
Do i like him more than all those other characters we already knew? No way in hell, well, except Kaidan\\Ashley and Jacob.... id rather have just Vega than any of those 3 >_>

Could have used an introduction, and a bit more developing dialogue, but I thought he was alright.

I like James. He's a pretty cool guy. He's also pretty funny and definitely not what I expected.

I didn't like him, but I didn't hate him, either. I would have prefered some kind of batarian war leader, like he's on earth to work out some peace solution to the Shepard situation. When the reapers hit, he realises what Shepard did was right and joins you. Another human was just boring.

I liked his character. He's been on most of my missions honestly.

I love Vega. I think he's got a great vibe and adds an interesting dynamic to the group. His discussion about wanting and not wanting to be N7 illustrated why I liked him so much. There was plenty of depth in there. He showed that he really thought about what he wanted to do and where he wanted to go. I didn't see that discussion as shallow at all.
Also - I didn't mind the use of Loco since that was a nickname. I live in a very Hispanic area of the US and, even though I'm whiter than white, I still interject a lot of random Spanish words into my speech. I'm not trying to be Hispanic, it's just the way that people speak here. Personally, I don't see Vega trying too hard to be Hispanic but, instead, he's just using the linguistic style of where he grew up and lived before joining up. For me, it's easier to say "chonies" than underwear. "Fuchi" makes more sense than 'stinky'. It's the same as other regional dialects.
And I don't see how he was stereotypical. Stereotypical of what? A military man? A Hispanic man?

I don''t dislike Vega, but I can't say his character really impressed me, either. That's not the fault of Freddie Prince, Jr., though. I liked his VA for Vega.

Honestly, I thought I'd hate him like I hated Jacob before him. It just seemed like every ME game had to have a bland and boring soldier character, and since ME already had a female, they were just cycling through the ethnicities now. But the guy grew on me. At least he's funny sometimes, and the whole "man, I can't believe all this craziness" routine - it's okay.

I thought Jacob was way beyond useless. His character irritated me. Stand up military leaving the strait and narrow for Cerberus? I just couldn't see it.pharsti wrote...

Vega was ok, better than I expected
That said, I would have significantly preferred to just get Wrex or any of the old crew back (minus Jacob lol)

He's just fine to me. I actually think they did a pretty good job making him likable, especially considering how he's a completely new character. I certainly didn't have the same emotional connection to him that I did to any returning squadmates, but I still liked him better than Jacob, who bored me to tears.

I positioned Vega on the Normandy with the other Alliance marines so they could guard the door.

For a late newcomer, he's certainly a well-developed character. Especially since he fills the "Krogan" slot of the squad.
Freddie does a smashing job with the voice too. The trailers don't do it justice.

I like Vega, I find him funny (especially his tirades with Garrus - bragging about their battle encounters in the mess hall & with Javik) and is indeed a good addition to the rooster of squadmates. I think Vega's character is a mesh of Garrus+Wrex. It would have been great if he was introduced earlier in the series like ME2, Garrus vs. Vega, who got the most kills + trophy (kinda remind me of the similar interaction between Legolas & Gimli in the LOTR movie competing & bragging on their skills)

Everybody was hating on him ever since his screenshot hit the internet.....calling him a jersey shore dbag....talk about judging a book by their cover....
Vega is funny as hell....and he's a pretty realistic "dude-brah"(Paul walker voice lol)
He's not annoying....yeah he kind of a tool, but we all got friends that we hang out with, and some of them are complete tools. But they're our buddies anyway.....that's how I feel about Vega

Also, sexy.
