He's okay. Would have preferred Jack, Samara, Jacob- anyone I previously had on my squad rather than him really.

Kasumi would be awesome.

It was a pity we didn't get a krogan squadmate in 3, but it makes sense in that Grunt and Wrex are more needed by the krogan armies as leaders, and the way they appear in the game is fitting to how their characters developed.

Which meant we needed some new muscle and I thought James filled in very nicely. His character arc was fine and enough to get a feel for what made him tick, but the best parts were his exchanges with other characters, especially Cortez and Javik. He grew on me as the game went on and I really quite liked him by the end.

I didn't see any reason to not get Grunt. If you decided to side with the rachni queen then Grunt's company is destroyed. Why not travel with Shepard and take out big Reapers in style?

Haven't imported a character that killed the rachni queen and thus have no reason to abandon the queen. So I have no idea how well his company does in those circumstances. But Grunt's got nothing going on that's more important than Liara being the Shadow Broker or Garrus being the Reaper expert.
