Vega is one of my favorite squaddies from any of the ME games, I like him more than Garrus personally. I think he's hilarious. On my femshep playthrough I loved how when Shep calls his bluff on the flirting he's like:

Vega: "uh... I .... uh... well..."
Femshep: "uh huh, thought so."

Femshep would rock his world so hard he'd have to wear his heavy armor, lol.

Also:

I liked his character and his voice actor did a great job. I also liked his nicknaming policies

Shepard=loco
tali=sparks

anyone got more nicknames?

Femshep = Lola
Garrus = Scars

I liked him, he is a no-brainer. :P

Seriously though, I can see why some don't. The big 'dumb' muscle marine that apparently missed the bus to a Gears of War cosplay festival. Always pumping the iron. I think the problem is Bioware kind of overdid it. If they just toned it done a little he would have been a fine character.

I still liked him.

Though the randomly throwing in Spanish phrases did irk me. It seemed like they were trying hard to conform to a stereotype.

I really liked him. Not everyone in the galaxy is going to have an "interesting" backstory. Vega reminds me of some of my military friends. It makes sense that Shepard will have at least one "typical" jarhead on his crew.

This exactly. I've known guys from the military, and Vega is at least a reastic depiction.

He's a nice guy and really good for tanking. The issue is less I think with the character and more with the fact that he occupied a space on a sparse roster, too few squad mates in ME3 in my opinion.

True, but im glad bioware added a new squad mate, rather than just keep old ones

I love him on Tuchanka, especially him absolutely losing it when the Reaper starts shooting at them.

Yes! I like Vega! He was fun to have around, had a lot of good lines and quips, made going down to the armoury to see him and Steve a whole lot of fun, and was a good contrast to the VS. (...)

That's how I felt about him!

I actually ended up taking him in missions with me, even though my Shep's already a soldier!

I think most people don't like him because they would prefer an ME2 character on his place, which is fair enough.

I've lived on or next military bases basically all my life. And I've known as many guys like Vega as not. I've known as many guys with no connection to the military as like Vega as not. Which is what bothered me about him, he was a completely one dimensional depiction.

Vega was for the new players who hadn't played ME1 and 2. So, yes, he's a bit unknown about what goes on. But, really, playing in a second run, I liked him. He's refreshing, not as moody as some of the other characters. He's like Grunt, in that respect. So, yeah, take him out for a spin, and you might end up liking him, as did I.

I like his personality, he seems like a fun guy, I didn't like enough to take him on missions (I already have Kaidan, so the other spot goes to my alien buddies). I did find him kind of unnecessary, especially since they didn't even bother making him a romance option. I wish they could go back in time and put Vega in ME2 instead of Jacob, who was far more useless and annoying though.

Also yes, the squadmate amount has to make sense.

I just finished a playthrough where everyone was dead from the previous games, and those who weren't I killed. In London Shepard was giving her epic speech to James, EDI and Liara.

Without James it'd have been just EDI and Liara, and since EDI doesn't gain her body until after Palaven, the game needed someone else to complete the squad.

I believe that's the primary reason they included him. Much more so than being relatable to new players.

Think they did a good job with him, considering he is the only (non DLC) squadmember who is introduced in the last game - the others have had at least one, most two, games to build on their character/backstory.

I first thought he was just going to be a bonehead soldier type, but he was quite thoughtful as you got to know him better (when he's considering the N7 placement). Granted the "lets dance loco" was goofy, but other than that - was well written.

Having grown up a military brat, Vega is very consistent with a young male marine. Maybe even better because while he was gung-ho and reckless, he is overall pretty likeable. I thought he gave the Normandy a much stronger feeling of "This is a military vessel" than in previous games.

yeah, I just wish they had fleshed out his character more. Or it would have been really cool (though I understand why this might not have been possible) to change his class. I had no need for another soldier in most of my play throughs but would have killed for another biotic.

I enjoyed Vega. The little quips he had to add in out on missions were quite comical.
