I like him a lot. Sadly, not enough to take him on missions, but that's not a mark AGAINST his character, it's simply that he's competing against Liara and Team Dextro, who I've been running with for years. I wouldn't mind seeing more from James, or picking up some missions that let him shine (assuming fixed ending, mind you). He just had the misfortune to being "a pretty cool dude" who's competing for time against "best friends who've been with you through hell and back".

Oh, also liked his and Cortez's dialogue in the hangar. Immediately counters the stereotype he might have been. Nice writing choice with that one, Bioware. Props.

I actually liked Vega, the banter was great, light, no pressure and didn't end up in some weird place with me gong "lets just be friends"  I think they must have based his character on Bill Paxton's space marine in Aliens because for some reason Vega reminded me of Paxton.

Although, if you're femshep, the "Are you flirting with me?" line was funny.

I quite liked him, though not my favorite (Garrus *.*). I thought it was kinda odd that they just dropped him in without any backstory or anything...
In fights he was useful as his skills complemented my shepard's skills and my playstyle.

What's really a shame, is that with so little time to learn under shep, since James is going to be N7 he could take over the mantle as lead character in his own series.

Oh, an addition: the one thing they could have done that would have made him stand out more, if they'd had time (lol, time), would have been to play out his mentor/student relationship with Shepard (CO, N7 trainer, the pep talks). Let the player essentially shape a legacy character who would become a mirror of Shepard's choices. The building blocks are there, but that could have been a great transition from Anderson-->Shep-->Vega.

Damn, now I wish they'd done that! That would have been sweet!

EDIT: Silph, you beat me to it.  Damn you!  :P

He first gets introduced in one of the comics that takes place after Shepard turns himself in.  He becomes his personal prison guard.

that is true, my femshep got that line, it was one of the classic humorous moments in game!  Also, i worked with a guy that much like Vega gave everybody a nickname and Vega kinda reminded me of that guy.

-We already got Cortez, and if you're not going to get a hispanic male to VA Vega, then the character should have been white. The accent was pretty bad, and some of the voice mannerisms were stereotyped.

Prinze grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was raised Roman Catholic also embracing his Puerto Rican heritage. where he learned about Spanish and Puerto Rican culture from his paternal grandmother. He speaks fluent Spanish and Italian.

:D

And yet we got what we got, as an actor with that knowledge he should've tried to adlib more.

Why? He plays a hispanic-american. So he has an American accent with some nods to his latino heritage. What should Prinze have done? Make him sound like one of the Mexicans from The Three Amigos?

I'm asian-american myself and I'd have been a little annoyed if they had Kai Leng speaking pidgeon english just to sound "more asian".

Next to Garrus and Liara, his was definately my favorite character in the entire series. I wish they had done more with the mentor/mentee relationship and a little more backstory on him .... but hey, it was what it was and will go down in my book as just another moment in ME3 that could have been so much more than it was but wasn't.

You know what, I'm taking that comment about Vega and making a thread. I think that's a good enough topic to require more than just an off comment.

Yeah at first I was like who the f is this. But I warmed to his character and liked having in my squad for certain missions and liked the "Brother in Arms" vibe I got from him.

No, I just the the lines we're written to express a strong hispanic heritage and usally those who are closer to their culture have a stronger accent because english is their second language.  And I said usually becauswe that is not always the case.

My only fear about Vega is setting him up to be new ME protagonist. No more female protagonist option. If they are going with purely the bean counter, most profit for the investment, a single protagonist is the easiest/cheapest production value. In that case, I will hate Vega beyond all hate.

Yeah, I actually really like Vega, and wish he was romancable. I'd die to have a piece of him. As he is, he's just a waste of manly man.

I didn't want to like him in the beginning. However, I got sold on using him more right after the 'dinosaur' lines on Eden Prime. After that, I used him on quite a few missions. His banter made me chuckle, especially when he is mixed with more 'veteran' squaddies like Garrus.

See something crazy and messed up? Garrus and others are just like 'Hey, remember that time when. . .', while Vega starts shouting stuff like 'wtf man!' Priceless.

he is physically very cliché, but not in his behaviour, the banter with Cortez made him very likeable, and very beyond cliché.
