Vega is cool, IMO. Vega, Zaeed and Kasumi are the only human squadmates I like.

I don't not like him. Kind of generic..I wish he had a loyalty mission. I can take him or leave him....he's like anti-Jacob. I hated Jacob at first and learned to like him.....Vega doesn't really have enough there to dislike...

It seems to me he was mainly designed to appeal to newcomers to the series, who don't have the attachment to the other squad members a longtime player would have.

They also did something interesting with him in that they used him to raise questions that a new player might have. I took him along on the rachni mission, and when Garrus said something like "We let her go because she promised to dissappear," Vega pipes up asking what he's talking about, leading Shep. to briefly explain what happened.

That said, I'm a long time ME fan, the upshot of which is James had a lot of free time to do his pull ups while I did missions with Garrus and Liara.

I liked Vega.

I didn't really like the few Spanish words thing, especially since he's down interacting with another Spanish speaker. I'm okay with espanglish. I'm a little uncomfortable about a dude who only uses Spanish to say "cerveza" "loco" and "pendejo".

But other than the GOD I'M LATINO, LOOOOOOOK parts, I really did like Vega. He looked like a derped up space marine, but he ended up having some really gentle parts to him.

One thing that I liked about Jacob can be summed up in one term, "esprit de corps". I found Vega to be way too insubordinate for a so called military man. And add that slang he spat...it made him feel like a tacked on "human minority" squadmate. Jacob felt more like a companion than Vega any day to me.

I liked James Vega, what I did not like about him doesn't make me dislike the character over all though.

Like:
-He is a cool laid back bro. Had he been in the game since the first game he would be in a close race with Garrus in the bud race. Like Garrus, he sees Shepard as a just a human, one who is a bad ass but accepts him/her as one of the "guys".

-He is not the smartest guy, neither is Ash neither is Kaiden. The difference between them and the other two is Ash and Kaiden wear their emotions on their sleeves and James doesn't Actually out of the three I would see he is the more thoughtful.

Dislike

-We already got Cortez, and if you're not going to get a hispanic male to VA Vega, then the character should have been white. The accent was pretty bad, and some of the voice mannerisms were stereotyped.

-Another variation of the soldier. Note this has nothing to do with the perceived lunkhead personality, this is the class. While not a biotic soldier still a soldier. If I want heavy fire support II can take him, Javik, or Ashley. Honestly this wouldn't be an issue if Javik had been a science guy, but we got what we got. Been cool if James were vanguard or infiltrator.

IMO people don't like like Vega for a few reasons.

a) They either can't relate to him, because in real life he would be the popular guy everyone would want to hang with. He's the guy who has a life, gets girls, effortlessly gets people to like him.

B) He was handled badly. He was introduced in the last game and not given enough time to be fleshed. His character had less interaction than Javik and you never really get to know him, where as Javik gets plenty of time to be expressed to the audience. That maybe because Freddie's time is expensive so they had to limit his lines or something. Outside of the reporter, the others who had less time were established characters, so they are more readily accepted.

C) His battlefield role is redundant.

Freddie Prince Jr is hispanic. His dad was puerto rican. Though I agree he way oversterotyped.

I found him pretty one-dimensional and cliched.

yeah I liked him at first but he absolutely needed more dialogue options (EDI got a lot more than him it seemed like). It was like bioware went to tv tropes and looked up the most common hispanic/marine sterotypes.

I would like to kill him. But I guess we are not talking about that kind of like.

He's just a big meat head, stock character. Already have enough soldier types running around.

Hated him. I enjoy the boxing match even though I was a full paragon. I really enjoyed renegading that SOB.

You know...its sad his dad isn't still around, now he would have made a perfect voice for Vega if you ask me. Not to mention..he had awesome comic timing. He is certainly missed.

I quite like Vega, I don't understand all the hate with him. But my favourite human squadmate is Kasumi...she is unique.

He's an interesting character once you get to know him. His back-story was deeper than I expected, and his dialogue is some of the funniest in the game. He's not quite the wing-man Garrus is, but he's a nice addition to the team. Bioware did good.

At first I thought, noooooes! What a stereo type. Do people really think chicks dig that appearance. Too much muscle. Too much attitude.

But then after a while, I turned on a table. I freakin love him! I would have loved to romance him, because he is just a big lovable dork. The funniest of my friends are stereo types, I guess I ended up feeling the same way about Vega :D

Personally I don't hate him, he just makes me uncomfortable because its seems like they basically threw him in cause they realized they that maybe more than one brown squadmate would make sense in a series filled with aliens. So they inserted a common minority stereotype character and on top of that added every enlisted military trope they could think of.  Basically it just bugs me when minority characters are put in games with heavy emphasis on their race/culture.

In my last 2 games didn't take him on a single mission. He's about as interesting as the dog.

(Kaidan also fell in that category though, in fact the last game I told him to go become a spectre himself!)

I didn't like him anymore than any of the crew members that were introduced in ME2, but just like those characters, he has deffinitely grown on me. Vega, in my opinion, is one of the most intresting crew members in ME3 that you can talk to. I love hearing about the collectors from the perspective of another soldier. Vega to me is proof that Shepard isnt the only person in the alliance military who has done anything worth mentioning.

I can understand where you are coming from, but I seem to see him as a clown who hides behind the stereotypes. Thats my look on it anyway.

I won't say I loved the character, but it was fine. He definitely got more interesting when he was talking about being tapped for the N7 program, and Shepard could mentor him a bit (although that ultimately turned out to be pointless).

Ahh, Vega's okay. He's not the kind of guy I'd rush to the medical area of my ship after taking a rocket to the face or anything, but he's okay.
