Actually Obama cut the Space Program for other things, Republicans complain about it and say he killed it, but their own plans are to truly eliminate NASA (save for Newt who wants a moonbase).  So your comparison isn't correct.

Which is much the same as UK politics.. only presumably Americans don't allow candidates the public didn't vote for to cheat and get in anyway.

oh no we do that to. see the bush/gore election for clear evidence and the bush/kerry for possible evidence (there were some shennanigans in ohio in BK)

Same. I knew it had to be that exact soundbite when I saw Santorum's name. If the clip was about 3 seconds longer, it would have sounded even more on point (some line about how he doesn't want to see it again).
