My short list of bad companions would be Cammen, the whiny 14 year old boy in a man's body in the Dalish encampment, Hespith, seriously warped dwarf woman and broodmother in waiting and finally Jowan, blood mage, tutor and gourmet chef.

Runners up are Arl Howe (I rule him out because he suffers from a serious case of dead) and Vaughan (for much the same reason).

Any other 'winners' for the worst possible companion cup?

Everyone's favorite character, Isolde. I imagine Anora would not be fun and games, either. A lot of whining about mud and camping from both of them.

I don't know about Jowan. Convince him that every Darkspawn is actually Gregoire/Irving in disguise trying to kill his girlfriend, and ending the Blight will probably be very easy.

As for bad companions... Cammen definately wins it.

Uldred. I could do without companions who fatally overestimate their ability to resist demons.

That lyrium addled templar outside the Denerim chantry probably wouldn't be too useful. Then again a few of the shown templars seem to be mildly useless in fights.

What was the name of that tainted, groveling hunched dwarf in the Deep Roads?

I wouldn't know.
Considering how much lyrium that guy took, he's probably a walking anti-mage nuke.

There are quite a few threads about people wanting to conscript Jowan. I would be happy just to have an option to have him pardoned, though.

The Elder Tree. At least if you wanted him in your party and with maxed Like. I can only take so much rhyming in a day.

Godwin. He's a mage, can harness the powers of the Fade just by thinking about it, and when abominations attack the tower, he... hides in a closet.

And Iona. The woman has a terrible sense of self-preservation. "Angry men are outside the door! I think I'll open up and see what they want."

Oh, I don't know. Go to the mage tower past a certain level with a mage PC and the hordes of charmed templars will one shot you with five synchronized holy smites.

Darrien - He'd occupy all his time tending to my horse. And I don't have a horse.
Lloyd - However amusing it'd be seeing a fat man continually run up to a monster and die.
Marjolaine - "Zis cuontry zmells leik vet dog!" no no no no no.
Anora - Would probably betray me to the darkspawn and hide in a barrel.

Well, to be fair, poor Iona didn't expect to get her head chopped off. Though could at least have put a robe on before opening the door.

And Iona (or the guy) and the PC must be REALLY hard of hearing, considering how they manage to sleep through the storming of the castle, the murder of Oriana and Oren next door, and soldiers trying to break down the parents' bedroom door ... Or maybe the sex had been really good.

If we leave out noncombatants as the obvious choices and only take our pick among those who have at least some skill at killing stuff, I'd say Jowan (untrustworthy, maleficar, spineless), Ruck (might try to gnaw on your leg at night), Hespith (poor woman needs to be put out of her misery, I don't think anyone could heal her mind OR body) and the Templar who wants to wipe out all mages (traumatized to the point of instability).

Lol that was my first thought too.

"Gee your not a smart one are you? Atleast it wasn't me..."

Hespith: She'd always be holding the party up so she could make darkspawn steaks. I tried to set her up on a date with Ruck, but Ruck wouldn't go for it. Kept thinking she'd rob him blind.

Sandal: The dialogue options would be terribly limited.
(PC) Let's chat
(Sandal) Enchantments?
(PC) I'd like to discuss something personal.
(Sandal) Enchantments!
Judging by the room full of dead people and blood splatters in the Keep, he'd probably make one hell of a warrior, though.

Connor: The whole demo thing would cause too many issues.
(PC) Hey Connor, what's shakin?
(Connor) Oh not much, just practicing some ma.. (head does a 360 degree spin) I WILL SWALLOW YOUR INSIGNIFICANT MORTAL SOUL!

Isolde and Anora for sure.. I might not mind Anora as much as some of the other people here, but she just doesn't strike me as someone who would be used to living life on the road.

Riordan. My companions run off to get killed quite enough already, thanks.
