Now I see a lot of threads and polls on how "So and So is the worst company ever", So I want to ask who is the best or your personal favourite.
I have to say Bungie, they never f*cked over their fans and ended a great legacy.
So best developer or game company you can think of.

I think Egosoft is a very good studio. They support their games (sandbox space flight, fight and trade simulators) with patches and free additional content for years. They remove DRM after a year or so. They actively support mods. They sometimes ask permission to add popular mods to the distribution of the game. And a lot of their devs are ex-modders.
Any registered user can sign up to become a beta tester. Beta testers have their own forums. Everyone can read those, but only beta testers can post there. Those forums have strict rules and devs allow suggestions, but not long discussions. If a suggestion is shot down by the devs the topics is considered to be closed. The same goes for bug reports. They only want you to describe the bug, how it can be replicated, which version of the game you have and they may ask you for saved games or HW specifications. If a suggestion or bug report is considered to be included then a dev posts how and when it will be implemented and when it is available for testing. Devs also asks testers for feedback of newly implemented features. Beta versions are released at regular intervals.
To become an alpha tester of their next unpublished game one simply prints out an NDA, signs it and sends it by snail mail to the company. More restrictions apply and the forums are not open to non-alpha testers.
They also have a live chat 24/7, in which devs participate during their office hours. They can often be found there in their spare time as well. They have a special version of IRC which allows gamers and testers to chat without giving away beta and alpha spoilers. A beta tester can switch to a special mode and then only other testers and the devs can read and reply to these. Same goes for the alpha testers.
Needless to say that their gamers are generally very loyal and scenes about booboos like we have seen after the release of DA2 or ME3 are absent there.

Not really my favorite but I wish Pandemic was still around.
As everyone else said, Valve. They are the ones that really got me into online gaming. There was an arcade across from my school and I'd go there almost every day to play CS and Day of Defeat.

When I assess a company I look at how well they treat their customer base. Both Ubisoft and Rocksteady are complete bastards to the PC community, but they'll sure take their money. I personally rank them among the worst.

I
Obsidian most. Runner up goes to Atlus. They haven't let me down once going back to the PS1 era. Although I'm not the BioWare diehard I once was, I still have a keen interest in what they do.
That's about it. I don't follow game companies or individual developers often. Most games are judged on a case by case basis.
