Late to the party, I know.
Since my Warden did the US, I'm gonna take the Orlesian Warden, if the default canon is close to what happened in my Origins playthrough.

So, what is the state of things mentioned in Awakening? Who's king, who's dead, who's alive, etc

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also, how will it work with importing to Dragon age II? Will I be able to import the two saves? (Origins warden and awakening orlesian warden) Argh!

Unfortunately, starting an Orlesian Warden for Awakening has a pre-set canon. What's more, I believe it assumes the DA:O Warden died.

In a nutshell, Alistair is sole king and everyone's alive except Loghain.

If you try to import the game for DA2, you can only choose the one. Your Awakening game will not import your DA:O saves in any way. Besides Alistair being king and the choices your Orlesian made in Awakening, I'm unsure what canon it establishes (eg. Werewolves/Dalish/Compromise?).

Since my US warden was dead and all, I didn't do Awakening. But importing the US warden to DA2 will import any decision you made in that game, i.e. if Alistair is king, which is really the only decision a US warden affects.

There are actually a bunch of small sidequests that depend on your DAO treaty decisions, and even some DLC (Soldier's Peak) decisions. I assume that at least one companion cameo isn't available if that companion was killed in DAO, and if the bug was fixed, there should be different dialogue for a romanced US Warden. (I know the other cameo fires, regardless...) And if your US Warden was a Dalish Elf, Merrill should speak of them on occasion, which is nice.

If you import an Origins save to Awakening, things you did in Origins do transfer over.

I imported my Origins save to Awakening, then my Awakening save to Golems, then my Golems save to Witch Hunt and then finally my Witch Hunt save to Dragon Age 2.
And my Dragon age 2 game is aware of what I did in Origins, Awakening, and maybe Golems and Witch Hunt.

You can only import one save to Dragon Age 2, but if you import your US Origins game into Awakening it will all go to Dragon age 2.

...I hope I came close to answering your question

@Krabman7 - Basically, if you want your DA:O US Warden's decisions remembered, you'll have to import that save instead of your Orlesian Warden's Awakening save. But doing that will, of course, negate your Awakening choices :/

I'm wondering- does anyone know who's King in Orzammar for an Orlesian Warden?

Thank you for the answers.
@Dragon, those pre-set canon choices you mentioned are actually exactly my choices, so that's good.
I'm planning to play Awakening as the Orlesian just to know what happens, and then import my Origins save to DA II.

I rather liked Awakenings. I'm a softie so I didn't like not being able to fully save *spoiler* as well as *spoiler*. Also, the usual amount of bugs for a Bioware product.

But I found the (mostly) easier combat a refreshing change from some of the Origins fights and thus a pleasant interlude before the madness that is GoA.

Another question.
If, after completing Awakening with an Orlesian Warden, I import this Warden to Golems and Witch Hunt, will the plot make sense?
Since the OW has no connection to Morrigan, what motivation does he have to search for her?

The beginning of WH makes it clear that there are a number of people hunting Morrigan, for various reasons. You can give your Orlesian a reason.

Not sure about Golems, but it's a strange DLC.

Considering the DA2 product placement of boss monsters in both these DLCs, I almost wonder why Marjolaine didn't start glowing red and flourishing a lyrium sword in Leliana's Song.

I believe the reason given is that the order to find Morrigan came from Weishauppt to the Warden Commander of Ferelden. Which is a neat way of giving ANY Warden a reason to go after her. For an Origins Warden, the quest just becomes a little more personal.
