Kind of like Europe, western Asia and Northern Africa was 'the world' for thousands of years as far as the west was concerned. Then people started finding all these silly continents that start with 'A'

Yeah.It would have been neat to see more than one moon for once!Mabey two or three.
You havent seen Star Wars, now, have you ?
Besides, its not realistic a world would be able to have two moons of the size of our moon (or, even worse, Mars). They would disrupt each others orbit, either throwing one of them out (down to the planet or into free space) or colliding. The problem is simply that their orbits would have to be too close, as you cannot have a too far away orbit from a planet (at some point the gravitation from the central star, which is much more far away but also much heavier, gets stronger than the gravitation from the planet).

The continent is called Ferelden, the world is Thedas, a community inspired name, which is actually from TheDAS or The Dragon Age Setting. Ergo, Thedas is the world.
No, Ferelden is a country. Thedas is what the continent is called.
Tevinter Imperium in their conquering days called anything outside their borders Thedas and it just stuck with everyone afterwards.
Here is a link to the map of Thedas if you have not seen it yet.

Some npcs refer to it as the "earth"... I don't think it's such a big deal anyway, the earth is a nice name for a planet... Rather that, than having some wicked name that doesn't make sense.
A terrible name for a planet, might as well call it dirt. Planet Dirt.

That may be enough. There may not be any other notable continents. Forgotten Realms has its planet named after its continents.
If you're talking about Abeir and D&D 4.0 then parts of it just recently became a continent of the world Toril.
But yes, obviously you're right and Faerun became a synonym for Abeir'Toril, simply because most P&P modules and all computer games but one play in Faerun instead of Kara-Tur, Matztica or Zakhara.

When they say "earth", they're talking about dirt, not the name of the planet.
The continent is Thedas, the world has no name. Why would it? Are there other worlds with other names? These people don't even know about other continents, though some must exist for the humans and the Qunari to have come from elsewhere.

Really? I think ever since Star Wars, fantasy settings have been putting 2 and 3 moons all over the place. I was actually very happy that there was only 1 sun and 1 moon. Made it more relatable. Just because you CAN go all crazy with a created universe doesn't mean you should. The more "Earth-like" a universe is, the more deeply one can immerse oneself in it. Just look at Battlestar Galactica (the new one). Their culture could have been VERY different (what with cylons and space travel, etc etc.) but in making them a sister-culture to us, it was much easier to get involved in those characters' lives.
